During the Games, U.S. viewers could watch every event on Peacock, while selected Olympic programming was available in 4K UHD through participating distributors of USA Network. A 4K television alone did not provide access to that feed, and neither Peacock nor every USA Network program was guaranteed to be 4K HDR.
What was actually available in 4K and HDR?
There were three separate links in the chain: production, distribution and playback. NBC Sports described a Paris production built with UHD/HDR-capable equipment and workflows, including nearly 100 cameras and more than 400 4K HDR monitors. That establishes production capability; it does not mean every event was captured or delivered to every viewer in 4K HDR. NBC Sports’ production announcement explains the technical setup.
For U.S. distribution, the clearest announced 4K route was a USA Network 4K UHD simulcast. Comcast announced a 24/7 simulcast for its customers, but access depended on the provider, package, market, device and particular program. Comcast’s announcement describes its offering; it should not be read as confirmation that every provider carried the same feed.
Playback also mattered. The provider had to offer the 4K version, the subscription had to qualify, and the app or set-top box, HDMI chain and television had to support the stream and its HDR format. The safest assumption was that 4K HDR applied to selected USA Network programming, not all events or every stream.

NBCUniversal announced U.S. coverage across NBC, Peacock, USA Network, E!, CNBC, GOLF Channel, Telemundo, Universo, NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app. Its coverage guide provides the historical platform lineup. In practical terms, Peacock was the completeness option; a participating USA Network 4K provider was the picture-quality route for the programming it carried.
How to find a provider’s 4K Olympic feed
- Confirm that your TV subscription included USA Network.
- Check the provider’s archived Paris 2024 listings or support information to establish whether it offered USA Network in 4K in your market and on your device. Check for any required package or 4K add-on.
- Search the guide for “USA 4K,” “Olympics 4K,” “Paris Olympics,” “UHD” or “HDR.” Select the listing specifically marked 4K or UHD, not simply the standard USA Network channel.
- Check the provider app, device diagnostics or television signal-information screen for resolution and HDR format. If the TV switches picture mode at playback, that can be a clue, but use signal information where available.
- If the feed is missing, confirm the provider’s supported-device list and local-market eligibility.
For example, YouTube TV’s support page says its 4K Plus add-on applies only to eligible content and describes checking eligible 4K networks in the app under Settings → 4K. A 4K-capable television or device does not make non-eligible programming 4K. See YouTube TV’s 4K Plus support page for its requirements and device guidance.

What equipment did you need?
- Television: A genuine 4K UHD display with HDR support. HDR formats and provider implementations can vary; do not assume that support for one format guarantees compatibility with every live-TV feed.
- Provider equipment or app: The provider had to support the 4K feed on the particular set-top box, streaming device or television app. A device capable of 4K output can still receive only HD through an unsupported app or channel.
- HDMI chain: An older receiver, switch or cable path can restrict resolution or HDR. Check the TV’s enhanced or deep-color input setting when using an external box.
- Internet connection: For an internet-delivered live feed, a stable connection matters as much as headline speed. Ethernet is preferable where practical; otherwise use a strong 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi-Fi connection if both router and device support it. Pause large downloads and check speed at the playback device. Required speeds depend on the provider’s encoding and household network conditions, so use its own stated requirement rather than a universal figure.
- Audio, separately: Resolution, HDR and audio formats such as Dolby Atmos are different properties. A 4K picture does not establish that a particular audio format was available.
How to tell whether the picture was 4K HDR
Look for a 4K/UHD or HDR label in the provider’s program details, then check the television’s signal-information menu for resolution and HDR format. Some TVs briefly show an HDR, HLG or Dolby Vision notification or switch to an HDR picture mode when playback begins; the actual format depends on the provider and device.
Appearance alone is not proof. Vivid color or high brightness can come from a television’s processing of SDR video. Likewise, a TV may output a 4K signal after upscaling a lower-resolution stream. Upscaling can make an HD source fill the screen, but it does not turn that source into native UHD. A provider’s signal information is more useful than judging sharpness by eye.

Why might the stream have been only 1080p or SDR?
A lower-resolution picture did not necessarily mean that the event was never produced in UHD. The bottleneck could have been the selected program, distribution path or playback setup. Common explanations included:
- You opened standard HD USA Network rather than the separately listed 4K feed.
- Your provider did not offer the 4K channel in your market, or your package lacked the required access.
- The program was not among the selected 4K offerings.
- The provider app or device supported HD but not that channel’s 4K stream.
- The service reduced stream quality because of bandwidth or device limits.
- The TV received 4K output without HDR, or the stream itself was HD or SDR.
- An older receiver, HDMI switch or input setting limited the signal.
- The TV upscaled an HD source, making its output resolution differ from the source resolution.
What to try
- Exit and relaunch the provider app, then confirm the channel and program label.
- Check that your plan and any required 4K add-on were active.
- Update the app and device software, and test on a provider-supported 4K device if available.
- Connect the streaming box directly to the television to bypass an older receiver or HDMI switch; check the input’s enhanced/deep-color setting.
- Reduce competing network traffic and test the connection at the playback device.
- If the provider advertised the 4K channel but it was absent, contact the provider and ask about your package, device and market eligibility.
What Peacock did—and did not—promise
Peacock’s main advantage was breadth. NBCUniversal said it streamed every sport and event, and the service’s published viewing plan covered all 329 medal events, along with replays, clips and tools for finding and following competitions. Those announcements establish event access and navigation, not that every Peacock live stream or replay was 4K HDR. A Peacock subscription did not automatically provide a provider’s USA Network 4K feed, and a 4K television could not force the app to deliver a higher-resolution source. Multiview was a way to follow multiple events, not a guarantee of 4K HDR for each pane. Stream quality could vary by program, device and implementation.

Olympic rights and formats varied by territory, so the U.S. USA Network route did not apply internationally. Start with the official Olympic “where to watch” information or the local rights-holder’s listings, then check whether UHD and HDR were offered for the specific event, platform and device.

In the United Kingdom, the BBC described Warner Bros. Discovery as holding European Olympic rights and the BBC’s coverage as operating under a sublicensing arrangement. See the BBC’s explanation of the TV deal. In France, coverage involved France Télévisions and Warner Bros. Discovery/Eurosport; a French National Olympic and Sports Committee report describes 2160p HDR delivery through UHD channels or platforms, with the route depending on broadcaster, provider and event. A VPN was not a dependable substitute for a local rights-holder: access could be limited by territorial rights, service terms, geoblocking and stream performance.
Can you watch Paris 2024 now?
No live Paris 2024 coverage remains: the Games ended on August 11, 2024. Official Olympic, broadcaster or rights-holder platforms may retain selected highlights, clips, replays or archival material, but availability can change by date and territory. Do not assume that an original live 4K HDR feed is still available.
