Week 18 of the 2024 NFL season was played January 4–5, 2025. ABC/ESPN carried Saturday’s doubleheader, CBS and FOX split Sunday afternoon, and NBC showed Vikings–Lions on Sunday night. The only broadly applicable free option was an antenna receiving local broadcasts; there was no universal free legal internet stream for the entire schedule.
This is a historical guide to Week 18 of the 2024 NFL season, played on January 4–5, 2025. The Saturday doubleheader aired on ABC/ESPN, Sunday afternoon games were split between CBS and FOX, and Sunday Night Football was on NBC. There was no single legal, no-login internet stream that carried the entire slate for free.
The most reliable free option was an over-the-air antenna for games broadcast by a local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC affiliate. Online viewing depended on the specific game, your location, the device you used, and whether you had an eligible subscription or authenticated access. Do not treat 2024 promotional prices, free trials, or app availability as current offers.

Saturday, January 4, 2025: ABC/ESPN doubleheader
| Game | Kickoff | Network |
|---|---|---|
| Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens | 4:30 p.m. ET | ABC/ESPN |
| Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers | 8:00 p.m. ET | ABC/ESPN |
Both Saturday games were part of the ESPN/ABC doubleheader. A local ABC affiliate, a pay-TV package carrying ABC and ESPN, or an eligible authenticated streaming service was the relevant route. NFL Sunday Ticket was not the right product for these games because it covered qualifying out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games, not Saturday broadcasts.

Sunday Night Football
| Game | Kickoff | Network |

The Vikings–Lions finale had unusual significance: it decided the NFC North and the NFC’s No. 1 seed. That national importance explains its placement as the Sunday night game on NBC.
How “free” NFL viewing worked in Week 18
Best free option: an over-the-air antenna
A compatible digital antenna could receive a local broadcast affiliate without a monthly TV subscription. Depending on the viewer’s market, that could mean local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC coverage for the games assigned to those networks.
An indoor digital TV antenna is the natural equipment option for viewers who wanted to try free local broadcast reception. However, an antenna does not automatically provide every network or every game. Reception varies with ZIP code, distance from transmitters, terrain, building materials, antenna placement, and the availability of the relevant affiliate.
Before buying or installing one, check your address with a location-based signal tool such as AntennaWeb. Confirm that the local affiliate you need is predicted to be receivable, then place the antenna near a window or other suitable location and rescan the television’s channels. Apartment dwellers, rural viewers, and people trying to feed several televisions may need a different antenna setup or professional signal advice.
Most importantly, an antenna provides local broadcast access. It does not provide out-of-market CBS or FOX games, ESPN cable coverage, or an internet stream of the complete NFL schedule.
Why there was no universal free online stream
Network schedules and official NFL products do not establish one universal, legal, no-login internet stream for every Week 18 matchup. Some broadcasts may have been available through an authenticated network app or a promotional offer, but those options were subject to location, provider, device, account, and time limits.
Be cautious with websites advertising every NFL game for free without authorization. Besides potentially infringing copyright, unofficial streaming pages can expose viewers to aggressive pop-ups, deceptive downloads, phishing attempts, and malware. A page being easy to find does not make it an authorized broadcast.

Local live-TV streaming services
A live-TV streaming service was the broadest internet-based option when it carried the viewer’s local ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC affiliates as well as ESPN. This could cover the Saturday ABC/ESPN games, Sunday afternoon local broadcasts, and Sunday Night Football, subject to the service’s market-specific lineup and subscription terms.
In the YouTube TV ecosystem, the base live-TV service carried local and national network broadcasts where available. NFL Sunday Ticket was a separate product for eligible out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games. Current pricing, trials, channel lineups, and eligibility should not be copied into a historical Week 18 article: those details change over time and by location.
NFL Sunday Ticket: only for qualifying out-of-market Sunday afternoons
NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube was relevant only to eligible regular-season Sunday-afternoon games that were not shown on a viewer’s local broadcast. It did not include:
- Saturday games, including the ABC/ESPN doubleheader;
- locally televised CBS or FOX games;
- nationally televised games;
- Sunday Night Football on NBC;
- preseason games; or
- postseason games.
For this Week 18 schedule, Sunday Ticket could therefore help with an eligible out-of-market CBS or FOX game in the Sunday afternoon windows. It was not a substitute for local CBS or FOX access, and it did not replace ABC/ESPN or NBC.

NFL+: useful mainly for mobile local and primetime viewing
The NFL’s 2024 Kickoff Guide described NFL+ as offering live local and primetime games on mobile devices, subject to the service’s subscription and device terms. That made it relevant to local-market and primetime viewing, including the nationally distributed Sunday Night Football window on a supported mobile device.
It should not be described as a full television replacement for every Week 18 game. The cited NFL+ access was specifically limited to mobile devices, and NFL+ was not the product for every out-of-market Sunday afternoon broadcast. For those games, the relevant out-of-market product was Sunday Ticket.

The clearest national storyline was Minnesota at Detroit. The Lions and Vikings entered the finale with the NFC North title and the NFC’s top seed at stake, making the game more than a routine divisional matchup.
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh also had AFC North and playoff-positioning importance. Across Sunday afternoon, the slate included division races, seeding questions, and playoff-bubble scenarios involving teams such as Washington, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Buffalo, Denver, the Los Angeles Chargers, Miami, and Seattle. That concentration of meaningful games was another reason the NFL distributed the finale nationally and scheduled the Saturday doubleheader as a separate viewing event.

Quick decision guide
- Want the cheapest legal option? Check whether an antenna can receive your local ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC affiliates. This was the only broadly applicable free hardware-based route, and it covered only broadcasts available in your market.
- Want the Saturday games and Sunday Night Football online? Look for a live-TV service carrying ESPN/ABC and NBC in your ZIP code, or use an authenticated provider option where available.
- Want local Sunday afternoon games? You needed the local CBS or FOX affiliate, via an antenna, pay-TV provider, or live-TV streaming package.
- Want an out-of-market Sunday afternoon game? Check whether Sunday Ticket covered that specific game. Do not assume it includes local broadcasts or national games.
- Want to watch on a phone? NFL+ was the official mobile-focused option for live local and primetime games under its applicable terms; it was not a promise of every game on every device.
What changed because this guide is historical?
Week 18 of the 2024 season took place on January 4–5, 2025. A reader finding this page now should not assume that a 2024 free trial, subscription price, app feature, channel lineup, or promotional stream still exists. The schedule and network assignments above are historical facts; current NFL viewing products require a fresh check of their present terms and local availability.
Frequently Asked Questions
Did NFL Sunday Ticket include Sunday Night Football?
No. NFL Sunday Ticket covered qualifying out-of-market Sunday-afternoon regular-season games. It did not include the Saturday ABC/ESPN games, locally televised CBS or FOX games, or Sunday Night Football on NBC.
Can I watch local NFL games with an antenna?
Yes, if your antenna could receive the local affiliate carrying the game. An antenna could provide local ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC broadcasts without a monthly TV subscription, but reception and affiliate availability depended on your location.
Did NFL+ show every NFL game on a television?
NFL+ was described as offering live local and primetime games on supported mobile devices under its service terms. It should not be treated as a way to watch every Week 18 game on a television or every out-of-market Sunday afternoon game.
Was there a free legal stream of every Week 18 game?
No. There was no single legal, no-login internet stream established for the complete Week 18 slate. Free viewing generally meant a local over-the-air broadcast, while online access depended on an eligible service, authentication, device, and location.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The legal free route for Week 18 was local over-the-air reception with an antenna, not a universal free internet stream. ABC/ESPN carried Saturday’s games, CBS and FOX carried Sunday afternoon, and NBC carried Vikings–Lions. Sunday Ticket applied only to qualifying out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games, while NFL+ was primarily relevant to supported mobile local and primetime viewing.
