Netflix’s current consumer help pages do not document a general built-in remote watch-party mode. For most desktop groups, Teleparty is the simplest option; Scener is better for integrated video or audio rooms; and Rave is the strongest phone-first choice. Discord, Zoom and Google Meet work best as communication tools while everyone plays Netflix separately. A shared countdown is the dependable fallback when synchronization tools or screen sharing fail.
Quick comparison
| Method | Best device | Automatic sync | Chat | Netflix access | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Teleparty (formerly Netflix Party) | Windows, Mac or Chromebook browser | Yes | Text | Required for each viewer | Desktop/browser limits and regional catalogs |
| Scener | Desktop Chrome | Yes | Text, audio and video options | Required for each viewer | More setup; some features are Premium |
| Rave | iOS, Android and supported computers/TV platforms | Yes | Text and voice | Required for Netflix content | Interface and TV support vary |
| WatchTogether | Browser | Room-dependent | Voice/video options | Required unless the host’s screen is shared | Netflix DRM may produce a black screen |
| Discord plus individual playback | Any device with Discord and Netflix | No; countdown | Voice | Required for each viewer | Manual resynchronization |
| Zoom or Google Meet plus playback | Computer or phone | No; countdown | Voice and video | Required for each viewer | Screen sharing is not dependable for Netflix |
| Watch2Gether | Browser or advertised apps | For supported content | Text and room features | Verify Netflix compatibility | Netflix support is not established on its public page |
| Same-room TV | TV or shared display | Yes | In person | Household account access | Not remote by itself |
Before starting a remote movie night
Confirm legitimate Netflix access
Watch-party software synchronizes playback; it does not supply Netflix video. Each participant needs access to Netflix under an arrangement permitted by Netflix. Its household policy applies to people outside the account holder’s main household, and extra-member availability depends on country, plan and billing arrangement: Netflix account-sharing guidance.
Check simultaneous screens
The number of people who can watch one account at the same time depends on the membership plan. Netflix’s help material explains simultaneous-device limits at https://help.netflix.com/en/node/558253171161700; its current signup page indicates two simultaneous devices for Standard and four for Premium, subject to regional plan details: https://www.netflix.com/signup. A fourth-party extension cannot bypass an “account is already in use” error.
Verify the title in every country
Synchronization cannot solve a licensing mismatch. Everyone must be able to open the same movie or episode in their own Netflix catalog. Teleparty and Scener both warn that availability varies by country: Teleparty support and Scener FAQ. Test the title before the scheduled event.
#1 Best Overall
- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits
- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]
- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
1. Teleparty: best overall for desktop
What it does
Teleparty (the service many older guides call Netflix Party) synchronizes play, pause and seeking, then adds a text-chat sidebar and a shareable party link. It supports Netflix and other listed services: https://ww1.teleparty.com/netflix.
Requirements and steps
- Install Teleparty from its official site or the relevant browser store.
- Open Netflix in a supported browser, sign in and choose the title.
- Start playback, then select the Teleparty button in the browser toolbar.
- Create the party and copy its generated link.
- Send the link to friends. Each guest installs Teleparty, opens the link and signs in to Netflix.
- Wait until everyone reaches the title, then start or resume playback.
Advantages and limits
- Fast setup, automatic synchronization and no broadcast of one person’s video.
- Every viewer still needs Netflix access and the same regional title.
- Chat is text-based, and browser/platform support can change.
- Teleparty support pages describe conflicting audience figures, including “up to 1000+” in one place and lower practical limits elsewhere. Treat it as a small-group tool rather than promising a precise maximum: https://ww1.teleparty.com/support and https://test1.teleparty.com/support.
The basic functionality may be enough for a movie night. Teleparty’s support page has listed Premium at $6.59 monthly or $3.99 monthly when billed annually ($47.88 per year); verify the live checkout page because prices can change: https://ww1.teleparty.com/support.
2. Scener: best for video chat and larger social rooms
What it does
Scener runs Netflix and other services through a Chrome extension. Its FAQ describes private rooms for up to 10 people with video, audio and text chat, plus theaters with unlimited text-chat participants and a smaller number of on-camera co-hosts: https://new.scener.com/faq.
Steps and requirements
- Create or sign in to a Scener account on a laptop or desktop.
- Install the Scener Chrome extension.
- Select Host a watch party, then choose a private room or theater.
- Open Netflix through Scener and select the title.
- Share the room code or invitation link.
- Have guests join, sign in to Netflix and confirm they can access the title.
- Use Scener’s playback controls to start the event.
Broadband, a webcam and microphone are needed for video or audio chat; headphones help prevent echo. Basic hosting and joining are free. Scener says Premium adds features such as advertisement-free video and audio chat and mentions a three-day trial, but the accessible FAQ does not state a current dollar price. Check https://www.scener.com/ before subscribing.

3. Rave: best for phones, tablets and mixed devices
What it does
Rave is a social viewing app that lists Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime, Disney+, HBO Max, Google Drive, Google Photos, Vimeo and other sources. Its advertised platforms include iOS, Android, Chromebook, Android TV, Google TV, Huawei, Windows and Mac: https://rave.io/index.
Typical setup
- Install Rave from the official app source for your device.
- Create or sign in to a Rave account.
- Start a room, choose Netflix and sign in if prompted.
- Select the movie or episode and invite friends.
- Use Rave’s text or voice features while watching.
Everyone needs Netflix access for Netflix content, and rented or otherwise unsupported titles may not work. The app is free at its core; Rave Premium is advertised as an ad-free option, but its accessible FAQ does not show a current price: https://www.getrave.app/faq. Controls can differ between iOS and Android, so check the current app interface.
4. WatchTogether: a screen-sharing fallback
WatchTogether shares the host’s actual screen rather than integrating directly with every streaming service. It says it does not record or process the shared screen content: https://watchtogether.watch/about.
- Open WatchTogether and create a private room.
- Share the room link and start its voice or video call if desired.
- Open Netflix in a browser and share the browser tab or window.
- Ask participants to confirm that video and sound are visible.
- If the Netflix picture is black, stop sharing and switch to synchronized individual playback.
This approach can cover services without a dedicated integration, but the host’s connection becomes the bottleneck, quality and latency are worse, and everyone sees the host’s stream. Netflix says its service and content are for personal, non-commercial use and prohibits unauthorized public or commercial streaming: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/633853347904100. Do not use screen sharing to bypass copy-protection controls.

5. Discord plus synchronized individual playback
This is a communication method, not Netflix broadcasting. Each person watches Netflix locally while the group uses a Discord voice channel.
- Open a private Discord server or group call.
- Agree on the exact title, episode and starting timestamp.
- Everyone pauses at that point.
- The designated host counts down: “Play in 3, 2, 1.”
- Use voice chat for reactions; pause at an agreed checkpoint if someone falls behind.
It works well for existing Discord communities and avoids capture problems, but every viewer still needs Netflix access and manual synchronization. Keep the film’s audio local to avoid echo and spoilers. Discord’s product page is https://discord.com/.
6. Zoom or Google Meet plus manual playback
- Start a private Zoom or Google Meet call.
- Keep the call open for face-to-face or voice reactions.
- Everyone opens Netflix separately and pauses at the same timestamp.
- Use a countdown to begin, muting microphones when necessary.
- Pause and resynchronize during natural breaks.
These familiar tools are useful for families, classes and groups that already use them. Treat screen sharing as optional experimentation, not guaranteed Netflix delivery; protected video may appear black. Free-plan durations, participant limits and sharing behavior vary, so check the current vendor pages: https://zoom.us/ and https://workspace.google.com/products/meet/.
7. Watch2Gether rooms
Watch2Gether offers private rooms, synchronized playback for supported content, chat and advertised apps: https://www.watch2gether.tv/. Its public page does not establish reliable Netflix playback across browsers and devices.

- Create a private room and invite friends with its code or link.
- Test the exact Netflix title before the event.
- If playback is blocked or black, use the room only for communication and play Netflix separately.
It is a reasonable room-based experiment for supported catalogs, but do not promise Netflix compatibility without a current test.

When everyone is physically together, one TV is the most reliable option: no drift, capture restrictions or third-party extension. Netflix defines a Household around devices connected at the main place where the account is watched: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/124925.
- Open Netflix on the shared TV or display.
- Sign in with an eligible household account and choose a profile.
- Select the title and use the TV audio system or headphones.
This is not remote viewing by itself. If friends are elsewhere, pair the physical viewing with a voice call rather than rebroadcasting the TV feed.
When a friend cannot join or the video is wrong
Teleparty button missing
- Open Netflix in a supported browser and confirm the extension is installed and enabled.
- Start the title before selecting the Teleparty icon.
- Check that you are on a Netflix watch page, refresh Netflix and reinstall the extension if necessary.
See Teleparty’s support instructions.
Invitation or account errors
- Confirm the guest installed the relevant extension or app and is signed in to Netflix.
- Check that the complete invitation link was copied.
- Verify the title exists in the guest’s country and that the account has not reached its simultaneous-screen limit.
Netflix’s “account is already in use” guidance is at https://help.netflix.com/en/node/29.

Playback drifts
Pause at a natural break, have the host resume, reload the party or close and reopen the playback tab. Scener recommends relaunching the show when it is several seconds out of sync: https://new.scener.com/faq. If drift keeps returning, use a manual countdown.
Screen share is a black rectangle
Assume a DRM or capture-compatibility failure rather than a setting to defeat. Stop broadcasting the video and switch to Teleparty, Scener, Rave, individual playback with voice chat or in-person viewing. Do not bypass Netflix’s technical protections.
Choose by situation
| Situation | Recommended method |
|---|---|
| Two or more people on laptops | Teleparty |
| Video or audio reactions | Scener |
| Phones or tablets | Rave |
| Large social event | Scener theater, distinguishing text participants from on-camera hosts |
| Existing Discord community | Discord voice plus individual Netflix playback |
| Friends in different countries | First verify the title in every catalog, then use Teleparty or Scener |
| No compatible extension | Try WatchTogether or Watch2Gether, but test for DRM; otherwise use a countdown |
| Maximum reliability | Same-room TV viewing |
Bottom line
Start with Teleparty for a normal desktop movie night, choose Scener when integrated video or a theater-style room matters, and choose Rave for mobile-first groups. Use Discord, Zoom or Meet for conversation alongside each person’s own Netflix stream—not as guaranteed Netflix broadcasters. Every participant still needs permitted Netflix access, the same title must be available in each region, and a shared countdown remains the reliable fallback.
