For a Defenders Saga-only marathon, watch the shows in this order: Daredevil Season 1, Jessica Jones Season 1, Daredevil Season 2, Luke Cage Season 1, Iron Fist Season 1, The Defenders, The Punisher Season 1, Jessica Jones Season 2, Luke Cage Season 2, Iron Fist Season 2, Daredevil Season 3, The Punisher Season 2, and Jessica Jones Season 3.
This is the most useful chronological and release-order sequence when watching the interconnected series by themselves. It is not an episode-by-episode reconstruction of the entire MCU timeline, which also places films between these shows.

The complete Defenders Saga order
The term Defenders Saga usually covers six interconnected Marvel Television series: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher. Marvel identifies Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist as the central live-action quartet; Frank Castle becomes part of the wider story through his connection to Daredevil.

What to watch before The Defenders
For the fullest crossover experience, watch these five seasons first:
- Daredevil Season 1
- Jessica Jones Season 1
- Daredevil Season 2
- Luke Cage Season 1
- Iron Fist Season 1
These seasons establish the four heroes, their supporting characters, Matt’s relationships and presumed death, Jessica’s trauma and investigative background, Luke’s Harlem history, Danny’s return from K’un-Lun, Elektra, the Hand, and the conflict affecting Matt and his allies. Starting with The Defenders skips much of the character and mythology setup and can weaken major emotional developments.
At an absolute minimum, you should have seen an introduction to all four heroes. In practice, watching the complete five-season setup is preferable to relying on recaps. Marvel’s official synopsis presents the miniseries as the point where four solitary figures unite, not as an entry point for newcomers.
Where The Punisher fits
Watch The Punisher Season 1 after The Defenders in a complete saga marathon, followed by the remaining seasons in the order listed above. Frank Castle’s story begins in an important way during Daredevil Season 2, but his standalone series develops independently and is not required to understand the four-hero team-up.

- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
Putting The Punisher Season 1 immediately after Daredevil Season 2 is defensible for a Frank-focused marathon. It is less useful as the default order for the entire saga because it separates the crossover from the post-crossover seasons that follow it.
Is this the same as Marvel’s complete MCU timeline?
No. The list above is the practical show-only order. Marvel’s broader Disney+ timeline places the Defenders shows alongside MCU films, including Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, and Captain America: Civil War.
That broader timeline is useful if you are watching the entire MCU, but it does not provide a compelling reason for most viewers to interrupt a season and switch to another title halfway through. The shows overlap in their broader time period, and “chronological order” should therefore be understood here as the best story order for the Defenders Saga rather than a mathematically exact scene-by-scene chronology.
See Marvel’s official MCU timeline if you want to combine these series with the films.
What to watch after the original saga
Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil: Born Again is a separate Marvel Studios series and a later Daredevil continuation, not a fourteenth season of the original Defenders Saga. For the most complete Daredevil-focused path, finish Daredevil Seasons 1–3, with The Defenders between Seasons 2 and 3, before moving to Born Again.

- Daredevil Season 1
- Daredevil Season 2
- The Defenders
- Daredevil Season 3
- Daredevil: Born Again
This shortcut omits important context from Jessica, Luke, Danny, and Frank. Marvel’s television directory lists Born Again separately from the earlier Daredevil and The Defenders entries.
Other MCU appearances
Matt Murdock and Frank Castle may also appear in Marvel projects outside the six-show Defenders Saga. Treat those appearances as optional MCU follow-ups unless you are following Marvel’s complete timeline rather than completing the original television story.
Shortcuts for different viewers
Fastest route to The Defenders
Watch Daredevil Seasons 1–2, Jessica Jones Season 1, Luke Cage Season 1, and Iron Fist Season 1, then start The Defenders. This is the quickest responsible route because it introduces all four heroes and the central Hand-related setup.
Daredevil-focused route
Daredevil Seasons 1–2 → The Defenders → Daredevil Season 3 → Daredevil: Born Again. You will understand Matt’s central arc, but not the full histories of the other Defenders.

In the United States, Disney+ is the primary official streaming home identified for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher. Marvel announced their arrival on the service in March 2022. Check the catalog in your country before subscribing, since availability, plans, pricing, taxes, and content ratings vary by territory and can change.
The series are mature viewing. Disney+ currently lists The Defenders as TV-MA; profile content settings and a PIN may be needed in households with children. Visit Disney+ for current regional plan information and Marvel’s announcement for the service and parental-control context.

One important naming clarification
The live-action television team is not a direct adaptation of the classic comic-book Defenders led by characters such as Doctor Strange. In this series, “The Defenders” primarily means Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist joining forces. The name of the crossover should not be taken as a signal to begin with that miniseries.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to watch all six Defenders Saga shows?
No. The five seasons before The Defenders are the key setup, while The Punisher can be treated as an extended Frank Castle storyline. Watch all six shows for the complete 13-season story.
Can I skip Iron Fist before The Defenders?
You can, but you will miss Danny Rand’s introduction and part of the Hand mythology that the crossover assumes you understand.
Should The Punisher come before or after The Defenders?
For a complete saga watch, place both seasons after The Defenders. Frank’s story begins in Daredevil Season 2, so a Punisher-only route can start there.

Marvel Television’s retrospective counts six shows, 13 seasons, and 161 episodes.
