You can’t install and activate the former FXNOW Roku app using the old code method. FX said its mobile and connected-TV apps, including the Roku app, would no longer be available after September 23, 2024. For FX Originals, FX currently points viewers to Hulu; for live FX, check whether your TV provider offers a supported Roku app and includes FX in your package. Availability checked September 30, 2026.
Why the old FXNOW Roku activation steps no longer work
The former FXNOW connected-TV app was discontinued after September 23, 2024, according to FX’s app-update notice. That means older instructions to add FXNOW to Roku, open it for a code, and enter the code at an FX activation page are not a current Roku setup method.
Three things are easy to confuse:
- FXNOW website: The website remains active and lists live and on-demand programming. Its availability in a browser does not mean there is a Roku app. Visit FXNOW.
- FXNOW connected-TV app: FX announced its withdrawal from connected TVs, including Roku, after the date above.
- Hulu and provider apps: These are separate services. FX promotes Hulu for FX Originals, while a participating TV provider may offer its own Roku app and authentication process.
Old search results, cached tutorials, and leftover Roku tiles can remain visible after an app is withdrawn. An activation page still loading is not proof that the discontinued Roku app is supported. FX’s generic activation interface, for example, does not establish current Roku availability.
Watch FX Originals with Hulu on Roku
FX’s official Watch page directs viewers to Hulu for FX Originals. Hulu is a practical route if you want eligible FX series rather than specifically needing the live FX channel. The available titles, seasons, territory, and subscription requirements can vary; Hulu access is not a guarantee that every FX program or live broadcast is included.

Watch FX through a cable or live-TV provider
If your cable, satellite, or live-TV package includes FX, check whether your provider has a Roku app. Provider apps are independent of the discontinued FXNOW Roku app; not every provider supports Roku, FX authentication, live feeds, or the same on-demand library.

- Confirm with your provider that your package includes FX and that it supports Roku.
- On Roku, go to Home > Store > Apps, search for the provider’s app, select it, and choose Add app.
- Open the app and sign in with the credentials associated with your provider account. Some apps instead show a link code or QR code.
- If a code or QR code appears, use the web address displayed inside that app and follow its instructions. Do not substitute an old FXNOW activation URL.
- Choose the correct provider if prompted, then check the provider’s guide or catalog for FX and the program you want.
Roku describes provider authentication as a feature of participating cable and satellite apps; the steps and eligible content depend on the provider and subscription. Read Roku’s explanation of cable and satellite content or its app sign-in guidance.
FXNOW website and Roku are not the same thing
The FXNOW website currently lists live and on-demand content, but that does not establish that it can be opened or streamed through a Roku browser. Do not assume that typing the website address into a Roku device will work. For web viewing, use a supported computer or mobile browser; for television viewing, use a compatible official app or a casting or AirPlay method only if your devices and the service support it.

If an FXNOW tile is still on your Roku
A tile may be a leftover installation, an outdated reference, or a different provider’s app. Open it once to check the exact app name and message. If it is the old FXNOW app and reports that the service is unavailable, reinstalling it cannot be assumed to restore service.
- Highlight the tile on the Roku home screen.
- Press the Star button on the remote.
- Select Remove app and confirm.
If you added a supported app remotely through Roku and it has not appeared, Roku recommends checking for an update at Settings > System > System update > Check now. An update does not bring back an app that its provider has withdrawn. Roku app help.

Which kind of activation are you being asked to do?
- Roku device activation links a Roku player or TV to a Roku account during initial setup. Roku’s setup guidance calls for internet access, a phone or computer, and access to email. See Roku’s device-activation instructions.
- App sign-in or provider authentication happens after Roku setup, inside an app such as Hulu or a provider’s app. It uses that service’s account, credentials, or on-screen code.
- The former FXNOW activation code was part of the discontinued connected-TV app’s sign-in flow. It is not a way to install FXNOW on Roku now.
Troubleshoot by the message you see
FXNOW does not appear in the Roku Store
The former connected-TV app was discontinued, so its absence is consistent with FX’s announcement. Roku app catalogs also vary by country. Don’t change your Roku region in an attempt to obtain an app whose availability FX withdrew; use Hulu, a supported provider app, or FXNOW in a supported browser instead. Roku’s Channel Store documentation.
An activation code is rejected
First check the exact app name and use only the address shown inside a currently supported app. Codes can be expired, tied to another device, or associated with a provider or package that does not authorize the content. If the code came from the old FXNOW Roku app, stop troubleshooting that code and use a current option above; repeatedly requesting a new one will not restore the discontinued app.

The app says you are not authorized
For a supported provider app, check that your package includes FX, that you selected the right provider, and that your credentials and subscription are current. Roku notes that provider verification, package eligibility, provider selection, and incorrect credentials can affect access. Contact the provider for subscription or entitlement issues.
The app keeps signing you out or a program is missing
Check the Roku internet connection, the account used in the app, and the provider’s or Hulu’s current catalog and eligibility for that title. For account or entitlement problems, contact the service that bills or authenticates the account. Availability can differ by program, season, plan, and region.
A site asks you to call an “FX activation” or “Roku activation” number
Do not pay an unaffiliated service to activate a Roku or restore FXNOW. Use official Roku, Hulu, FX, or provider support pages; avoid phone numbers and activation links promoted by unrelated tutorials or search results. Roku device setup is handled through Roku’s account-linking flow, not a paid third-party activation service.
Availability outside the United States
This guide is aimed primarily at U.S. viewers. FX’s activation page indicates geographic restrictions, and streaming catalogs and app stores vary by territory. FXNOW website access, Hulu availability, and provider options may differ outside the United States; check the official service available in your location rather than assuming a U.S. Roku setup applies. FXNOW’s Roku activation page does not establish that the former Roku app remains available.
