You do not need a separate Freevee PC app. Amazon retired the standalone Freevee brand and moved its free, ad-supported movies, TV shows, and FAST channels into Prime Video. On a computer, open Prime Video in a supported web browser and look for the Watch for free or Watch with ads label.
Eligible titles can be watched without a paid Prime subscription, although you may still need an Amazon account and availability can vary by country, title, and account. Free viewing is funded by advertising, so commercial breaks are expected.

Go to Prime Video rather than searching for a current “Freevee for PC” download. There is no separate Freevee application you need to install for normal computer viewing.

Use a current supported browser
Prime Video supports current versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and Opera. Amazon lists browser access for Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Linux, and recommends keeping the browser up to date.
On Windows or macOS, browser playback can reach up to HD under supported conditions. Amazon notes that playback on operating systems other than Windows and macOS is limited to standard definition, so Linux and ChromeOS users should not expect HD simply because their internet connection is fast enough.

Select Sign in and use your Amazon credentials. If you do not have an account, follow the option to create one.
A paid Prime membership is not required for eligible Watch for free titles. However, Amazon may still require account sign-in, and requirements can vary by market and by title. Do not assume that every program formerly associated with Freevee can be played anonymously or without registration.

Find a free title
Search for a movie or show by name, or browse the Watch for free area in Prime Video. The individual title page is the best source of truth because the catalog changes.
Look carefully at the title’s access label. A program may be:
- Watch for free or Watch with ads: eligible for free, ad-supported viewing;
- Included with Prime: requires a Prime subscription;
- available through a paid channel; or
- available to rent or buy.
A title’s appearance in search results does not prove that it is free. A show that was once available on Freevee may have moved to a paid option, left the catalog, or become unavailable in your territory.

Choose the free playback option
On the title page, select the button labeled Watch for free, Watch with ads, or equivalent wording. Do not select a rental, purchase, channel subscription, or Prime-only option unless that is what you intend.

The precise options depend on the title, browser, operating system, and location.

Do you need Amazon Prime to watch Freevee content?
No—not for titles specifically marked Watch for free or Watch with ads. Former Freevee programming is now presented inside Prime Video’s free, ad-supported area, and those eligible titles are intended to be available without a paid Prime subscription.
You may still need an Amazon account, and not every title in Prime Video is part of the free catalog. Prime Video may show several access methods for the same search: free with ads, included with Prime, channel access, rental, or purchase. Check the button on the individual title page before starting playback.
Why can’t I find a particular Freevee show?
Freevee was a brand, not a permanent promise that every listed title would remain free. Streaming rights change. A former Freevee title may have:
- left Prime Video entirely;
- moved from free viewing to Prime-only access;
- become available only to rent or buy;
- moved to a Prime Video channel; or
- become unavailable in your country while remaining available elsewhere.
Search the exact title in Prime Video and read the current entitlement label. Avoid relying on an old Freevee article, search result, or saved link that still uses the former branding.
What changed from the old Freevee instructions?
Older guides may tell you to download a Freevee app or visit a separate Freevee website. Those directions are outdated for current PC viewing. Amazon announced the transition to Prime Video, and reporting in July 2025 said the standalone Freevee app would remain accessible only until August 2025. The current route is Prime Video in a browser.

You may still see “Freevee” in older search results, program descriptions, or discussions. Treat it as a reference to Amazon’s former free, ad-supported service and then look for the equivalent Watch for free listing in Prime Video.

Freevee playback troubleshooting on a PC
Work through these checks in order before installing anything:
- Confirm the title is still free. Return to the title page and verify that it says Watch for free or Watch with ads. If it shows a rental, purchase, Prime, or channel option, the problem may be entitlement rather than playback.
- Update the browser. Install the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, or Opera, then fully close and reopen it.
- Reload Prime Video. Sign out and back in if the page appears stuck or shows the wrong account.
- Try another supported browser. This helps identify whether the issue is specific to a browser profile, extension, or stored site data.
- Check the connection. Pause other demanding downloads or streams and test another site. A slow or unstable connection can cause buffering even when the title is correctly available.
