To watch Bookish online from anywhere, use the official service licensed in your country: PBS.org or the PBS app in the United States, U&alibi and its listed partners in the UK and Ireland, or a territory-specific broadcaster such as Filmin, HBO Max Australia, Sky or BBC First elsewhere. Availability and episode rights can change.
Key takeaways
- In the United States, PBS.org and the PBS app are the primary places to check for Bookish.
- PBS Passport may provide extended access, but episode availability depends on local station rights and expiration windows.
- In the United Kingdom and Ireland, access centers on U&alibi and the carriage services listed by UKTV, including Sky, Virgin Media and NOW.
- Outside the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland, Bookish is distributed by territory-specific services such as Filmin in Spain and HBO Max in Australia.
- Bookish is a six-episode British crime drama created by and starring Mark Gatiss.
- A streaming device such as an Amazon Fire TV Stick can run the PBS app on a compatible television, but it cannot unlock rights restricted to another country.

Bookish is a six-episode British crime drama created, written by and starring Mark Gatiss. Set in post-war London, the series follows Gabriel Book, an antiquarian bookseller who helps police solve difficult murder cases. PBS describes Gabriel Book as a gay man living during a period when homosexuality was illegal, while a new assistant named Jack raises questions about his appointment. The official PBS synopsis and series page provide the programme description.

U.S. viewers should start with the official PBS Bookish page or the PBS app. PBS currently labels the programme “Now Streaming” and identifies PBS.org and the PBS app as viewing routes.

| U.S. option | What it provides | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| PBS.org | Official online access when the series is available in the viewer’s PBS market | Streaming rights can expire, and PBS availability is not proof that the stream works outside the U.S. |
| PBS app | Official PBS viewing on supported phones, televisions and streaming devices | The same local rights and availability limits apply. |
| PBS Passport | Extended-access videos for eligible members of participating local PBS stations | Passport is a station-member benefit, not a universally available standalone streaming service. |
| Other U.S. listings | A current availability check listed YouTube TV, PBS Masterpiece Amazon Channel, THIRTEEN and WETA+ | These listings should be confirmed directly inside the service before subscribing or paying. |
| DVD | Offline physical access if online rights are unavailable | A DVD is not online streaming and does not provide access while travelling without the disc. |
Can I watch all six episodes with PBS Passport?
PBS Passport may provide access to the complete six-episode season, but readers should treat that access as rights-dependent rather than permanent. PBS Help explains that Passport videos are watched through PBS.org or the PBS app after Passport activation, and that some videos become unavailable when streaming rights end. Availability can also differ by local station or territory; consult PBS’s Passport viewing instructions if an episode is locked.
During the WPBS launch window, the station announced that episodes were free for two weeks after each broadcast on station-branded PBS platforms, while Passport members could binge all six episodes from the broadcast premiere night. That was a launch-window rule, not a permanent guarantee. According to WPBS’s 2026 announcement, Bookish has six episodes and the PBS app supports iPhone, Apple TV, Android TV, Android smartphones, Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Fire Tablet, Roku, Samsung Smart TV and Vizio.
If you want to watch Bookish on a television rather than a phone or computer, an Amazon Fire TV Stick is a relevant convenience option because Amazon Fire TV is listed among the devices that support the PBS app. The device does not change your country, PBS station eligibility or the programme’s licensing rights.

Where can I watch Bookish in the UK and Ireland?
In the United Kingdom, Bookish originally aired on U&alibi. UKTV identifies Sky, Virgin Media and NOW as access routes for its pay-TV brands. In Ireland, UKTV also lists Eir and Vodafone among relevant carriage options. Check the programme catalogue and your specific package before subscribing.
Recommended Free Tools
UKTV describes U as its free streaming service for its free-to-air channel brands, while U&alibi is one of its pay-TV brands. Do not assume that the free U service includes every U&alibi programme or every Bookish episode. The UKTV distribution announcement is the relevant source for the named UK and Ireland access routes.
| Market | Named route | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| United States | PBS.org, PBS app, possibly PBS Passport | Whether your local station carries the current episodes and whether access is free or Passport-locked |
| United Kingdom | U&alibi; Sky, Virgin Media or NOW carriage | Whether the current package includes U&alibi and the complete series |
| Ireland | Sky, Virgin Media, Eir, Vodafone or NOW routes identified by UKTV | Local package, territory rights and current episode listing |
| Spain | Filmin | Current catalogue status, subtitles and season completeness |
| Australia | HBO Max | Whether the Australian catalogue currently carries the series |
| New Zealand | Sky | Current Sky listing and episode availability |
| Benelux | BBC First | Country-specific broadcaster and package availability |
| Italy | RAI | Current RAI platform or broadcast listing |
| Denmark, Sweden and Finland | DR, SVT and YLE respectively | Local catalogue, broadcast schedule and any online catch-up window |
Where is Bookish available internationally?
International availability is fragmented: no single streaming service is confirmed as a worldwide home for Bookish. Beta Film’s April 17, 2026 distribution announcement says the series had been sold in more than 100 territories across five continents. Those sales are territory-specific rights announcements, not a promise that every named service still carries the programme when you search.

To check a country not listed above, search the national broadcaster or platform named in local distribution news, then confirm the actual Bookish programme page. Look for the correct season, all six episodes, subtitle and audio options, and the date or rights window shown by the service.
How should I check Bookish availability before subscribing?
- Start with the rights holder or official distributor for your country. U.S. viewers should check PBS; UK and Ireland viewers should check U&alibi and the services named by UKTV.
- Confirm the exact season and episode count. The first series contains six episodes, but a platform listing may show only a temporary broadcast or catch-up window.
- Check whether access is free, membership-based, subscription-based or a purchase. PBS’s free availability windows and PBS Passport access are not the same thing.
- Check the device and accessibility details. Confirm that the service works on your television, phone or browser and that the subtitles, audio description or other accessibility features you need are offered.
- Confirm inside the service before paying. A third-party availability listing can become outdated, so search for the title directly on the platform’s own website or app.
A U.S. availability check dated August 13, 2026 listed YouTube TV, PBS Masterpiece Amazon Channel, THIRTEEN and WETA+ alongside digital purchase and DVD options. Because JustWatch’s U.S. listing is an availability aggregator rather than the rights holder, use it as a lead and verify the title directly before starting a subscription or purchase. The listing date and catalogue status are especially important because streaming availability changes.

Can a VPN let me watch Bookish from anywhere?
A VPN should not be treated as a guaranteed or authorized way to watch Bookish from another country. Streaming services license programmes by territory, may block connections that appear to come from outside the permitted market, and may restrict viewing under their terms. Use the legitimate service licensed for your current country rather than promising that a VPN will bypass geographic restrictions.
PBS specifically warns that viewers outside the United States may not have access when PBS does not hold rights in their territory. A U.S. PBS listing therefore does not prove that the same stream works abroad. The safest interpretation of “from anywhere” is “find the authorized local distributor,” not “use one service worldwide.”
What if online streaming is unavailable?
A DVD is the clearest physical fallback identified for U.S. viewers when online rights are unavailable. A disc can provide offline access after purchase, but it is separate from streaming: it does not establish online rights in another country, and playback may depend on the disc format and the viewer’s equipment. Confirm the edition and region compatibility before buying.

For the most current answer, begin with the official PBS Bookish page in the United States, U&alibi or UKTV’s listed partners in the UK and Ireland, and the named national broadcaster or platform elsewhere. Recheck the service immediately before publication or subscription because rights windows, episode counts and platform catalogues can change.

In the United Kingdom, Bookish is associated with U&alibi and its listed carriage services, including Sky, Virgin Media and NOW. UKTV also identifies Eir and Vodafone among relevant Ireland routes.

The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Is Bookish on Filmin?
Yes, Filmin is the territory-specific service named for Spain in Beta Film’s distribution announcement. Confirm that Filmin’s current catalogue includes the complete season before subscribing.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: There is no single global place to stream Bookish. U.S. viewers should start with PBS.org, the PBS app or eligible PBS Passport access; UK and Ireland viewers should check U&alibi and its carriage partners; viewers elsewhere should use the licensed service for their territory, such as Filmin in Spain or HBO Max in Australia. Do not assume a VPN makes a regional stream available or authorized worldwide.
