Start with a specific audience and business objective—not a camera, platform, or view target. Then choose a format and distribution channel that fit the customer’s decision, and measure the outcome that matters, such as qualified leads or purchases.
How do I use video to attract new customers?
- Define the audience and problem. Be precise about whom you want to reach and what they need to understand, solve, or decide. “People looking for a reliable local accountant” is more useful than “everyone who might need financial help.”
- Choose one primary objective. Decide whether the video should introduce your business, answer a question, help someone evaluate an offer, or prompt an inquiry or purchase. A video can support more than one stage over time, but a single piece is easier to plan and assess when it has a clear main job.
- Make a focused video around that job. Explain a real problem, demonstrate how your service works, or show what a customer can expect. Keep the message relevant to the viewer rather than making the video a general company introduction.
- Give viewers a clear next step. Tell them what to do: book a consultation, request a quote, visit a product page, sign up, or watch a related explanation. Make sure the destination works on the device and platform where viewers will encounter the video.
- Publish where your audience can find it. A website landing page, social channel, email, or paid video campaign may make sense depending on the audience and goal. Plan distribution alongside production; uploading a video alone does not ensure the right people will see it.
- Measure against the objective. Track the relevant result—such as qualified visits, inquiries, sign-ups, or purchases—alongside reach and engagement. Views can show exposure, but by themselves they do not establish that the video acquired customers.
This approach treats video as part of a customer journey. It can help create awareness among people who are not yet shopping and help convert people who are already considering a solution. Google describes the aim as “Convert existing demand while creating a pipeline for future demand.” That is platform guidance, not a guarantee that any particular video or campaign will produce sales.
What kind of videos should my business make to get more customers?
Choose by the viewer’s question and decision stage, rather than by whichever format is fashionable. Wyzowl’s 2026 video marketing guide discusses explainers, social videos, testimonials, ads, and product demonstrations; the right fit depends on your offer, audience, and ability to distribute and measure the video.
| Format | Useful when the viewer wants to… | Possible next step |
|---|---|---|
| Explainer | Understand a problem, process, or unfamiliar service | Read a detailed guide or explore the relevant service page |
| Social video | Get a concise answer or discover a business while browsing | Visit the profile, follow a link, or watch a deeper explanation |
| Product or service demonstration | See how an offer works before deciding | View pricing, book a demo, or start a purchase |
| Customer story or testimonial | Understand another customer’s experience | Ask a question or compare the offer with their own needs |
| Direct-response ad | Take a specific action after seeing a relevant offer | Sign up, request a quote, book, or buy |
Use a customer story only when you have a real customer’s account and permission to share it. Do not script an invented experience or imply that one customer’s result is typical. A demonstration should show the offer accurately, including relevant limitations or steps the customer must take.

How should the video hold attention and make the business memorable?
For YouTube video ads, Google recommends its ABCD principles: Attention, Branding, Connection, and Direction. In practical terms, get to the subject quickly, make the business or product recognizable early, communicate in a focused and human way, and clearly tell viewers what to do next. Google’s guidance also recommends using audio and text to support the story and reinforcing an on-screen call to action with voice-over. These are recommendations for YouTube ads; they are useful planning prompts, not a universal formula for every format.
- Attention: Open with the viewer’s question, problem, or relevant demonstration—not a long preamble.
- Branding: Identify the business or product early enough that viewers can connect the message to its source.
- Connection: Use plain language and a situation the intended customer recognizes.
- Direction: State one clear next action and make it easy to find.
Where should you publish and promote the video?
Match placement to how prospective customers discover and evaluate your type of business. A website page can support visitors who are already researching an offer; social media can help people encounter concise content while browsing; email can bring a video to an existing list. Paid campaigns can extend reach or target people with relevant intent, but the right channel depends on audience, budget, geography, and sales cycle. Plan where the video will appear before production so that its format, message, and call to action fit the placement.
Google’s published campaign examples illustrate different ways to connect reach and response, but they are examples tied to particular advertisers and periods—not forecasts for another business. Marley Spoon’s Australia campaign paired awareness-oriented creative explaining its service with direct-response activity and sign-up links. Axis Bank used customer questions and search intent to shape content and audience selection. Adidas sequenced long-form video, a six-second bumper, and a product video. The International Rescue Committee paired reach campaigns with remarketing to viewers. The practical lesson is to consider how a person moves from first exposure to action, not to copy another advertiser’s result or sequence mechanically.

How should you measure whether video attracts customers?
Choose a measure before production and connect it to the video’s primary objective. Use reach or awareness indicators for an introduction, relevant engagement or qualified visits for consideration, and attributable leads, sign-ups, or purchases for acquisition when your tracking setup allows. Review cost and lead or customer quality alongside volume. The appropriate measure depends on your sales cycle and how reliably you can connect exposure to an outcome; there is no single universal KPI.

Do not treat views as a sales result. A video can attract many views from people outside the target audience, while a more focused video may generate fewer views but more relevant inquiries. Use analytics and campaign tracking available to your business, and make sure links, forms, and conversion events work before promotion starts.
Google’s current Demand Gen guidance recommends using a variety of video and image creative. Google says advertisers adopting at least three of its four recommended practices saw, on average, over 40% more conversions and 30% higher conversion value in its analysis. Those figures are Google-reported platform results, not an independent benchmark or a promise for an individual advertiser. Google also cautions that conversion reporting can lag and fluctuate from day to day; evaluate trends over an appropriate period instead of making decisions from incomplete daily data.

What do video marketing survey figures actually tell you?
Wyzowl’s 2026 guide reports results from its Video Marketing Statistics 2026 survey: 63% of surveyed people said they would prefer a short video when learning about a product or service; 82% of surveyed marketers agreed video gives them a good return on investment; 83% said video marketing had helped increase sales; and 82% of surveyed people said they had been convinced to buy a product or service after watching a video. These are survey responses reported by Wyzowl, not controlled evidence that video caused a particular result or a prediction for your business.
Published campaign figures have the same need for context. In its 2022 account of an International Rescue Committee campaign, Google associated adding reach campaigns and remarketing viewers with a 42% increase in new donors and 19% revenue growth. In a 2019 account of Marley Spoon’s Australia campaign, Google reported a 25% lift in brand awareness, a 49% lift in ad recall, nearly 10 times the search volume, and a 52% incremental uplift in conversions, citing April–May 2018 campaign data. Both are advertiser-specific examples published by Google, not controlled cross-platform comparisons or expected outcomes for a different business.

Start with the simplest production that communicates the offer clearly. A useful video does not require an elaborate shoot if a clear explanation, demonstration, or answer will do the job. Prioritize understandable speech and a focused message; Google’s ad guidance specifically recommends supporting the story with audio and text. Before publishing, check that the business is identified, the key information is easy to follow, the call to action is visible or stated, and the destination link or form works.
- Write down the target viewer, their question, the video’s primary objective, and the next step before recording.
- Keep the video centered on one offer, question, or decision rather than trying to explain the entire business.
- Prepare the landing page, form, booking link, or product page before sending viewers to it.
- Decide how you will distinguish qualified interest from casual views, and check tracking before a campaign begins.
- Review results over a time span that fits the business’s sales cycle; do not assume every delayed conversion will appear on the day of a view or click.
Keep an educational video available on YouTube
If you have a recorded explainer, demonstration, or other useful video that you want to keep playing as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud. This is a way to keep that video available as a continuous stream, not a substitute for choosing the right audience, distribution, call to action, or measurement for customer acquisition. You upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; StreamNeo keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection staying on. It supports uploaded video, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only. The first day is free with no card, and UPI works for customers in India. Try StreamNeo.
