To schedule a prerecorded lecture as a YouTube Live broadcast with StreamYard, upload an MP4 with H.264 video, choose Create → Live Stream → Pre-recorded video, select your YouTube channel, enter the event details and schedule it. The broadcast starts automatically at the chosen time and ends when the lecture finishes. Decide during setup whether to schedule an announcement: it determines when viewers can get the YouTube link.
Before you schedule: check the video and channel
- Video format: StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guide specifies an MP4 file with H.264 video encoding. The maximum bitrate is 10 Mbps (10,000 Kbps). If an upload fails or playback lags, StreamYard recommends re-encoding the file with HandBrake. See StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guide.
- Plan limits: Check your account’s current limits before uploading. StreamYard’s guide lists maximum file sizes of 10 GB on Core and Advanced, and 25 GB on Teams and StreamYard Business. Maximum video durations are 2 hours on Core, 4 hours on Advanced, and 8 hours on Teams and StreamYard Business. These are plan-specific product limits; the guide does not state a publication date.
- Resolution and scheduling: The guide says prerecorded broadcasts stream at up to 1080p on paid plans, can be scheduled up to 365 days ahead, and allow up to 5 simultaneous scheduled streams on Core, 10 on Advanced, and unlimited on Teams and StreamYard Business.
- YouTube eligibility: Live streaming must already be enabled for the YouTube channel you want to select. See StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guide and its YouTube scheduling guide.
The workflow uses a video file or a past StreamYard recording. You do not need a camera, microphone, capture card, or external drive to stream a lecture that is already recorded.
Schedule the prerecorded lecture
- Open the creator: In StreamYard Home, select Create → Live Stream → Pre-recorded video.
- Choose the lecture: Upload a file from your computer or select a past StreamYard broadcast. Check that it meets the format, bitrate, size, and duration limits for your plan.
- Select the YouTube destination: Choose the channel with live streaming enabled.
- Enter the event details: Add a title and description, choose the privacy setting, and set the date and time. You can also upload a thumbnail while scheduling; StreamYard’s YouTube guide says YouTube recommends an image of 1280 × 720 pixels.
- Choose announcement timing: If you want the watch link before the broadcast starts, schedule an announcement post and set when it should appear. Without an announcement, the link becomes available when the prerecorded stream goes live.
- Create the broadcast: Select Create broadcast. From Home, use Check status to see whether it is live and open the stream once it starts. Playback begins at the scheduled time and ends when the video finishes.
Choose how viewers get the link
An announcement post makes the YouTube watch link available at the post time. Without one, viewers cannot get the link from the destination until the stream goes live. The announcement timing cannot be added or changed after the broadcast has been created. If you created the broadcast without an announcement and need an earlier link, StreamYard says to delete and recreate it with the desired announcement time. Decide before creating the broadcast if you need to share the link in advance.
Know what you can—and cannot—control during playback
The video plays automatically; this is not a controllable live studio session. StreamYard says you cannot control overlays or other media assets during prerecorded playback, and comments cannot be shown on-stream. Viewers can still comment on YouTube, Facebook, or another destination, so you may follow the platform chat separately, but do not plan on live on-screen Q&A or production changes during the lecture. YouTube Live supports real-time chat as a platform feature; that does not make the automated video playback itself interactive. See StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guide and YouTube’s live-streaming overview.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The file will not upload: Confirm it is MP4 with H.264 video, stays within the 10 Mbps bitrate ceiling, and does not exceed your plan’s size or duration limit. If it still fails, try the re-encoding approach StreamYard recommends: HandBrake.
- The lecture lags during playback: StreamYard recommends re-encoding the video with HandBrake. Check the file’s bitrate and encoding as well.
- You cannot select the YouTube channel: Confirm that live streaming is enabled on that channel, as required by StreamYard’s YouTube scheduling guide.
- Viewers cannot find the scheduled stream: If you did not schedule an announcement, the link appears when the stream goes live. If you need it earlier after creating the broadcast, delete and recreate the broadcast with an announcement scheduled for the desired time.
- You need to change overlays or display comments while the lecture runs: Those controls are not available in prerecorded playback. Plan to participate in platform chat separately, or choose a workflow that supports live production control.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is an always-on YouTube channel playing uploaded videos rather than a single scheduled lecture, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly plan is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
