What’s actually slowing this PC down?

A QR code can make it easier for someone who sees your poster, handout, or online promotion to reach your live stream. It is a convenient way to present a link—not a proven way to increase viewers. Choose the right destination, tell people what scanning will do, test the code in its final setting, and pair it with promotion on the streaming platform.
Choose where the QR code should lead
First decide what a person should see after scanning. Use the destination that fits the purpose and will still be correct when they scan it.
- For a scheduled event: use the specific event or upcoming-stream page if the platform provides one. This takes people closer to the stream they came for.
- For ongoing promotion: use your channel page when you want the code to remain useful beyond one broadcast or when a specific event page is not available.
Open the destination on a phone before generating or publishing the code. Check that it loads, identifies the right creator and event, and does not lead to an expired or unrelated page. If you use a redirect, check its final destination as well; the available guidance does not establish that redirect services are more reliable or effective than a direct link.
Make and test the QR code
- Copy the destination URL. Confirm it on a phone, then use a QR-code creation tool to encode that exact link. Keep a note of the URL so you can verify it again before printing or posting.
- Add a clear prompt beside the code. Use wording that tells people what they will get, such as “Scan to watch live” or “Scan for event details.” Put the prompt outside the clear margin around the code.
- Prepare the final version for its intended use. For print, use vector artwork when available and preserve the code’s contrast and clear margin. Do not cover the code with a logo, text, or decorative element.
- Test the actual output. Scan the printed piece or on-screen version from the distance and under the lighting where people will encounter it. Confirm both that it scans and that it opens the correct destination. Fix and retest any version that fails.
Make the code readable in its setting
There is no single minimum QR-code size that works in every situation. Payload, printing process, surface, lighting, and scan distance all affect readability, so judge the final version in context rather than relying on a universal size rule.

GS1 UK says: “The Quiet Zone around all four sides of the QR code is four times the size of the X-Dimension.” The X-dimension is the size of the smallest squares in the code. Keep that clear space on every side; put the call to action outside it. Use strong contrast between the code and its background, and avoid placing it where glare, folds, busy graphics, or a curved surface make scanning harder.
For posters, stickers, and handouts
Consider how far away someone will stand and whether they can pause to scan. A code that works in your design preview may not work at the intended viewing distance or after printing. Scan a physical proof before distributing a large run.

For a webpage or on-screen promotion
Show the code long enough and large enough for the intended audience to scan it, and test it on the screen where it will appear. Think through the viewing context: someone watching a stream on one device may not be able to scan a code displayed on that same device. Do not assume every viewer has a second device or a particular scanning workflow.
Place it where people can act on it
Use the code where a person can understand the invitation and scan without disrupting what they are doing. Suitable places may include event signage, flyers, stickers, or a website promoting the broadcast. Keep the call to action close to the code and make the destination clear: “watch live” is different from “event details.”

A QR code should complement the platform’s own sharing tools, not replace them. YouTube’s guidance recommends sharing a stream link at least 48 hours before going live, embedding the URL on a website, connecting social accounts, creating a Live section, and using a teaser or trailer. It also suggests highlighting clips during a stream and making eligible public archives or highlights public. These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees of discovery or attendance.
For Twitch, the Share feature supports sharing live channels, past broadcasts, and clips to social media; Twitch also supports embedding video or chat on a website. For TikTok LIVE, TikTok’s LIVE Studio Help Center says creators can share a LIVE after starting it and add LIVE information to social platforms. Its guidance also recommends promoting schedules, clips, or events. Platform tools and features can change, so check the relevant platform’s current help pages before a campaign.

Check platform rules before placing a code
Where the QR code appears matters as much as where it leads. Twitch’s Community Guidelines prohibit using Twitch to direct viewers to an alternative live-streaming service, and explicitly include QR codes that send viewers to a concurrent livestream. A link that simply notes a creator’s presence elsewhere is distinct from actively directing viewers away to a simultaneous stream. Do not place a QR code on Twitch to route viewers to a competing live broadcast.
For any platform, review its current rules before posting a code, particularly when the destination is another live stream. A code is still a link, and presenting it as an image does not remove the platform’s restrictions.

Measure your own campaign without promising a lift
The sources cited here do not establish a QR-specific increase in viewers, scan-to-view conversion rate, or performance advantage over an ordinary link. If you have access to scan or attendance measurement, record scans and resulting attendance for your own campaign and compare placements consistently. Treat the results as specific to your audience and setup, not as a forecast for other streams.
Twitch stated in a June 17, 2026 blog post that “70% of new viewers are coming to Twitch on mobile.” That is Twitch’s own statement; the cited post excerpt does not describe its measurement method. It describes viewing context, not the effectiveness of QR codes.

If the stream you want to promote is a YouTube channel playing uploaded videos around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The code can point viewers to the relevant YouTube stream or channel, while StreamNeo handles the continuous playback. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and StreamNeo can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream.
