Streamlabs Talk Studio calls RTMP-In Stream Forwarding. Set up your destinations and stream details in Talk Studio, copy its ingest server URL and stream key into an external broadcaster such as OBS, Streamlabs Desktop, or Zoom, then start the broadcast from that app. Talk Studio forwards the incoming stream to the destinations you selected.
What Stream Forwarding does
Stream Forwarding lets an external broadcasting application send a live signal into Talk Studio, which then forwards it to destinations linked there. Streamlabs describes uses including sending a Zoom call to social destinations, using custom OBS scenes, showing more than nine participants, and adding multiple camera sources. These are Streamlabs-described use cases, not independent performance guarantees. Its guide lists LinkedIn and Twitter as unsupported for Stream Forwarding. Streamlabs’ Stream Forwarding guide was dated April 25, 2025.
Before you start
- Sign in to Talk Studio and make sure the destinations you want to use are linked to your account.
- Have an external broadcaster ready, such as OBS, Streamlabs Desktop, or Zoom. Its menu labels and configuration steps may differ by app and version.
- Use a stable internet connection. Streamlabs prefers Ethernet and lists these upload speeds in its Talk Studio requirements: 5 Mbps required and 10 Mbps recommended for 720p; 10 Mbps required and 20 Mbps recommended for 1080p. These are Streamlabs’ guidance, not a guarantee for every broadcaster, destination, or network. Talk Studio Getting Started was last updated October 1, 2025.
- Streamlabs lists Google Chrome or Safari among Talk Studio’s browser requirements. Check its current requirements if your browser or setup differs.
Set up RTMP-In in Talk Studio
- Sign in to Talk Studio and open your profile or account settings.
- Choose Stream Forwarding.
- Select the destinations that should receive the forwarded broadcast, or add a destination.
- Enter the stream title and description, then save.
- On the Stream Forwarding page, locate and copy the Ingest Server URL and Stream key. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your setup.
Connect Streamlabs Desktop, OBS, or Zoom
Streamlabs Desktop
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and open its gear/settings menu.
- Choose Stream > Stream Type > Custom Streaming Server.
- Paste Talk Studio’s Ingest Server URL into the server field and its Stream key into the key field. Do not use a destination platform’s URL or key here.
- Save the settings, then start streaming from Streamlabs Desktop.
OBS or Zoom
Choose the app’s custom-server or RTMP streaming option, then enter the Ingest Server URL and Stream key copied from Talk Studio. The exact controls vary by application and version; Streamlabs names OBS and Zoom as possible sources, but does not establish current click-by-click steps for every version. Start the broadcast from that source app after configuring it.
When the source starts sending video, Talk Studio forwards the signal to the destinations saved in Stream Forwarding. Confirm the broadcast at the relevant destination; the source app is where you start the stream.

Keep RTMP-In separate from Custom RTMP
These features send video in opposite directions. With Stream Forwarding / RTMP-In, Talk Studio receives an incoming stream: Talk Studio provides the ingest URL and key, and you enter them in the external broadcaster. With a Custom RTMP destination, Talk Studio sends its browser stream outward: the external platform provides its RTMP URL and key, which you enter in Talk Studio. Streamlabs documents the separate outbound flow in its Custom RTMP from Your Browser guide.
Common problems and fixes
The source app cannot connect
- Check that you copied both values from Talk Studio’s Stream Forwarding page and pasted the URL and key into the matching fields.
- Confirm that you selected Custom Streaming Server or the equivalent source-app setting. A destination’s RTMP details belong in the separate outbound workflow, not RTMP-In.
- Check that the internet connection is stable; if practical, use Ethernet as Streamlabs recommends.
The stream reaches the wrong destination or none at all
- Return to Stream Forwarding and verify the intended destinations are selected and the stream details saved.
- Check that the destination supports Stream Forwarding. Streamlabs lists LinkedIn and Twitter as unsupported for this feature.
The picture is unstable at the chosen resolution
Compare your available upload capacity with Streamlabs’ resolution-specific guidance in the requirements section. A speed recommendation is not a guarantee: network stability and the source app’s configuration also matter.

Instagram setup does not show RTMP details
This is a separate Instagram/custom-destination caveat, not a change to the general RTMP-In steps. Streamlabs says Instagram Live RTMP settings may not be available to every account; check the account’s Live settings. Its troubleshooting guidance describes using a third party to provide a dedicated server URL and key if the settings are unavailable, and advises choosing Portrait Mode for an Instagram Custom RTMP destination. See Talk Studio Destination Troubleshooting.
