To loop one prerecorded Sanskrit shloka in OBS, add it as a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop. For several recordings, use OBS’s VLC Video source with a playlist and Loop Playlist enabled. Then connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream, check the preview and stream health, and start the broadcast.
Choose a single-file loop or a playlist
Use Media Source when you want one audio or video file to repeat. Choose VLC Video when you need multiple files in a playlist. The documented controls establish how each option loops; they do not establish a difference in stream quality.

OBS documents support for media including MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV. Confirm your chosen file plays correctly in the preview before broadcasting.
Set up a single Sanskrit shloka recording in OBS
- Add the source: In your OBS scene, add a Media Source. Name it clearly if you expect to manage more than one scene or recording.
- Select the file: In the source properties, choose the local audio or video file you want to broadcast.
- Enable looping: Turn on Loop so playback starts again when the file finishes. Restart playback when source becomes active is a separate property and is on by default in OBS’s documented settings.
- Check the scene: Play the source and watch the OBS preview. Listen for audible, consistent audio and check that any text or imagery are readable.
Set up a playlist for multiple recordings
- Install VLC: The VLC Video source requires VLC. Match its bitness to OBS; for example, 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Build the playlist: Add the shloka recordings in the order you want them to play in VLC.
- Add VLC Video in OBS: Add a VLC Video source to the scene and select the playlist.
- Enable the repeat behavior: Leave Loop Playlist enabled if the set should start over after the final item.
- Test the sequence: Check playback in the OBS preview, including the transitions between files and the audio level.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Check channel readiness: YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time activation of live streaming may take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of the intended broadcast.
- Create or select an encoder stream: In YouTube Studio, create or select a stream intended for an encoder.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into OBS’s streaming settings. The key is sensitive: it identifies where the encoder sends its feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Reset it if it is compromised, then update OBS with the replacement.
- Start the OBS encoder: Start streaming from OBS and wait for the Live Control Room preview in YouTube Studio.
- Inspect before going public: Check the preview and stream health, confirm the video and audio look and sound right, and then go live in YouTube Studio.
Set encoder and network settings for a reliable stream
YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Set the resolution and frame rate to suit the recording, intended viewing experience and upload capacity; do not select settings your connection cannot sustain.

YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. Treat that as platform guidance, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming: actual reliability depends on the available connection and the settings you use. Monitor stream health and audio/video quality while live.
- Test the full setup before the planned broadcast rather than discovering a source or connection problem on air.
- Keep OBS’s preview visible while checking the selected clip or playlist, audio levels and any on-screen text.
- Use YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators before and during the broadcast.
Check rights for the actual recording and visuals
Before streaming, confirm you have permission to use the specific recording, performance, arrangement and any accompanying artwork or imagery. A Sanskrit text’s traditional or public-domain status does not, by itself, establish that a particular modern recording or arrangement is free to rebroadcast. Rights depend on the actual assets you use.

Troubleshoot common problems
