Larix Broadcaster and FFmpeg do not form a single built-in bridge: Larix publishes live video from a phone, while FFmpeg can encode or relay media to YouTube. For a phone camera stream, send Larix directly to YouTube. For a prerecorded documentary that should repeat, use FFmpeg to loop and send the file. To route a Larix feed through FFmpeg, you also need an ingest server or other configured endpoint that receives Larix and makes that feed available to FFmpeg; the setup depends on that infrastructure.
Choose the workflow that matches your source
- Live phone camera: Configure Larix to publish video and audio to YouTube. FFmpeg is not needed unless you have a separate, configured ingest-and-relay setup.
- Prerecorded documentary loop: Run FFmpeg on a computer or server with the video file. FFmpeg paces the file in real time, repeats it, and sends the output to YouTube.
- Larix through FFmpeg: First arrange an ingest endpoint that accepts Larix’s contribution and a way for FFmpeg to read that contribution. YouTube’s server URL and stream key are the destination credentials; they do not create the missing Larix-to-FFmpeg ingest path.
“Continuous” has separate parts: repeating the source, keeping the encoder process running, reconnecting after network failure, and keeping the YouTube live event open. A loop handles only the first part.
Set up Larix to stream a live phone feed directly to YouTube
- Get the YouTube destination. In YouTube Studio, create or select a live stream and copy its server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains where those values go. Treat the key as a publishing password: do not share it, and replace it if it is exposed.
- Create the Larix connection. In Larix Broadcaster, add an RTMP or RTMPS connection and enter the server URL and stream key in the connection’s destination fields. Softvelum’s Larix documentation gives the YouTube endpoint pattern, and Larix Grove shows an example combined connection string:
rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2/{stream-key}. Use the secure RTMPS server URL if YouTube provides one for your stream. - Send both video and audio. Configure Larix for a video-and-audio stream. Softvelum notes that YouTube cannot take a video-only or audio-only stream in the documented example.
- Start a test broadcast. Check the picture, audio, and YouTube stream health before relying on the feed for a long session. YouTube explicitly says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
Larix is a live publisher, not a prerecorded-file looping tool. If your goal is to replay an uploaded documentary, follow the FFmpeg workflow below instead.
Loop a prerecorded video with FFmpeg
Prepare the YouTube destination
Copy the server URL and stream key from the selected YouTube Studio live stream. Keep them separate as environment variables so the key is not embedded in a script or displayed in a command history. This example expects YOUTUBE_SERVER_URL to be the base server URL without a trailing slash, and YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY to contain the key. If your server URL already includes a path specific to the stream, follow the URL format YouTube gives you rather than adding a duplicate path.

Use a looped, paced input
For a local file, FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely, while -re reads it at its native rate instead of sending it as fast as possible. FFmpeg documents -re as input pacing (equivalent to -readrate 1), not as a reconnect or retry option. Do not use a low artificial read rate to throttle a true live camera feed; FFmpeg warns that doing so can cause packet loss.
Here is a starting command for a documentary file that is already 1080p30, using H.264 video, AAC audio, a two-second GOP, and a nominal 8 Mbps video target:

ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -re -i documentary.mp4
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 8M -minrate 8M -maxrate 8M -bufsize 16M
-g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "${YOUTUBE_SERVER_URL%/}/${YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY}"
Replace the example values and filename before running it. The command assumes the file’s video is already 1080p30; it does not resize or convert frame rate. At 30 fps, -g 60 sets a 60-frame keyframe interval, or two seconds. The rate-control flags aim for a constant video bitrate, but check YouTube’s stream-health feedback and adjust the profile to match your actual source and connection.
If you do not want repeat playback, remove -stream_loop -1. If your source is a live contribution from Larix, do not use this file-loop command unchanged: configure FFmpeg to read the actual ingest address supplied by your receiving server. There is no universal local RTMP address to put in that command without first setting up such a receiver.

Match the output to YouTube’s current recommendations
YouTube recommends RTMPS, CBR video encoding, a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Its current encoder table gives different recommended bitrate ranges according to codec, resolution, and frame rate. These H.264 examples are from the table accessed in 2026; YouTube’s page does not display a publication year.
| H.264 format | YouTube recommended video bitrate range |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3–8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5–14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6–17 Mbps |
Use the matching row in YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table for your intended format; the examples above are not universal settings. YouTube also lists H.265 and AV1 for supported ingestion cases. Larix’s FAQ describes HEVC-over-RTMP as a Premium capability, so do not assume the phone, app edition, or destination supports it.

Make a combined Larix-to-FFmpeg route explicit
If FFmpeg must process or relay a live Larix feed, the receiving layer is a required part of the design. It might be a configured server or another ingest service, but neither Larix nor FFmpeg automatically supplies a universal receiver address. Confirm the receiver’s input protocol and URL, how FFmpeg is authorized to read that input, and how FFmpeg publishes to YouTube before starting.
- Configure the receiving endpoint to accept Larix’s contribution and obtain the exact ingest URL and credentials from that endpoint’s operator.
- Enter that ingest destination in Larix and send video plus audio. Do not substitute the YouTube destination here if FFmpeg is meant to receive the feed first.
- Configure FFmpeg to read the receiver’s actual input URL and publish to the YouTube server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The precise input options depend on the receiver’s protocol and configuration.
- Test the whole route, including sound, delay, stream health, and what viewers see if either Larix or FFmpeg disconnects.
The reviewed setup references document Larix’s YouTube publishing and FFmpeg’s input pacing, but not a particular Larix-to-FFmpeg server configuration. Do not copy a made-up localhost or RTMP address and expect it to receive the phone feed.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a 24/7 YouTube loop of uploaded videos rather than a live phone camera, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a camera feed. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, it supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Start the free first day on StreamNeo.
Quick Recap
Keep the stream running safely and troubleshoot interruptions
Plan for more than looping
- Process supervision: A command that exits will stop publishing. For a long-running FFmpeg setup, use an operating-system service manager or another supervisor configured to restart the process, and check its logs. A loop flag does not supervise FFmpeg.
- Network and encoder recovery: Decide what should happen if the phone, receiving endpoint, FFmpeg host, or internet connection drops. Larix has reconnect controls, but Softvelum’s FAQ says its default behavior does not retry when the network goes offline; advanced settings can allow attempts despite network-presence checks, and iOS has a reconnect timeout without network. Exact behavior depends on the device and app version, so configure and test it on the actual setup.
- YouTube session lifecycle: YouTube’s encoder setup guide says stopping content from the encoder ends a stream and that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The archive statement is not a promise of infinite session duration or recovery after a dropped connection. For extended broadcasts, plan how the live event will be monitored and restarted.
- Rights and channel rules: Use video and audio you have permission to stream, including music, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and channel policies. A technical connection does not grant distribution rights or guarantee monetization eligibility.
Common symptoms and fixes
- YouTube shows no incoming signal: Check the selected live event, copied server URL, stream key, and whether the sender is actually running. If routing through FFmpeg, confirm the ingest endpoint receives Larix before troubleshooting the YouTube output.
- Video arrives but audio does not: Verify Larix is configured to send audio as well as video, or check that the file/FFmpeg output includes an audio stream and AAC or MP3 encoding.
- Stream health reports bitrate or format problems: Match codec, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, and bitrate to YouTube’s current table rather than copying a setting from a different format.
- The file plays too quickly: Confirm
-reappears before the file’s-iinput option. It paces file input; it does not repair network interruptions. - The loop stops unexpectedly: Inspect FFmpeg’s process output and host logs.
-stream_loop -1repeats the input only while FFmpeg remains active. - Larix does not reconnect after losing service: Review its reconnect settings for the installed app and operating system, then test a real network interruption. Do not assume the default will retry while the device reports no network.
