The integration guide supports JW Player 8.18.4 and later and applies to the web player, not a documented native mobile integration. AWS’s JW Player integration guide
What you need before setup
- A valid Amazon IVS playback URL for the channel or playback resource you want to show.
- The JW Player web player, version 8.18.4 or later, as specified in the AWS integration guide.
- The Amazon IVS JW provider script. AWS’s guide illustrates version 1.56.1, but AWS release notes dated October 1, 2026 list version 1.57.0 for the web player, including its JW Player integration. Check the IVS release notes for the current asset and version before deployment; the guide’s sample URL may lag the latest release.
The guide’s example provider asset is https://player.live-video.net/1.56.1/amazon-ivs-jw-provider.min.js. Treat that as an example, not a guarantee that this is the newest version.
Load the player and IVS provider
Include the JW Player library and the Amazon IVS provider script on the page before you call setup. Use the current provider asset identified in AWS’s release information rather than assuming a versioned sample URL is still current. The provider bridges JW Player’s interface to the Amazon IVS player SDK.
Configure the IVS playback URL in JW Player
Set the playlist item’s file to the IVS playback URL and its type to ivs. If the page should not show a Chromecast option, include cast: null in the setup configuration:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
jwplayer('player').setup({
playlist: [{
file: IVS_STREAM,
type: 'ivs'
}],
cast: null
});
This is the configuration shape in AWS’s integration guide. It assumes the scripts have already loaded and IVS_STREAM holds a valid IVS playback URL. Replace that variable with your URL or a variable populated by your application. The IVS provider does not support casting; cast: null hides JW Player’s casting option rather than adding casting support.
Handle playback events and errors
Use JW Player events for ordinary playback
For routine playback behavior, use JW Player’s standard on event API. That keeps ordinary player logic on JW Player’s public interface.

Access IVS-specific APIs when needed
When you need IVS-specific events or enums, listen for JW Player’s providerPlayer event. Its payload supplies ivsPlayer and ivsEvents. Attach IVS-specific listeners to the returned IVS player instance, and remove those listeners when your component or page no longer needs them. AWS documents this route in its JW Player integration guide.
Separate general and IVS error handling
Handle general player errors through JW Player’s own error event. For IVS-specific errors, listen to the IVS player’s error event; its callback provides an error type, code, source, and human-readable message. Keep the two paths distinct so that application code can use the error information provided by the relevant player layer.

Know the integration’s limits and latency trade-offs
- Web player only: AWS documents this integration for JW Player’s web player; it does not establish a native mobile setup.
- No provider casting: The IVS provider does not support casting. AWS discusses alternative casting approaches outside the player, but warns that transitions have higher latency and are not seamless. See the Amazon IVS Player documentation.
- Latency and guarantees: AWS says its own IVS Player is required to achieve low latency and is the only player whose performance it can guarantee. The provider exposes that IVS player under JW Player, but actual end-to-end latency also depends on broadcast location and broadcaster settings. Do not interpret JW Player integration as an equivalent AWS performance guarantee. AWS IVS Player documentation
- Content Security Policy: AWS says the provider is configured to work with pages using CSP. Check the CSP section of the IVS Web Guide for the exact directives needed by your deployment; the integration guide does not provide one policy that can be applied safely to every site.
Choose between JW Player integration and the native IVS player
Use the JW Player integration when your web application already uses JW Player and you want its player setup and UI alongside access to IVS-specific APIs. Consider using the Amazon IVS Player directly when the AWS-documented IVS playback path and its performance guarantee are the priority. AWS states, “The only player whose performance we can guarantee is the Amazon IVS player.” That is AWS’s statement about its own player, not a general comparison of every feature or UI option. Amazon IVS Player documentation
AWS’s January 28, 2021 Media Blog post by Max Stoller and Malini Das described the result this way: “Your JW Player instance is now using the IVS player SDK to power playback.” The post explains the integration’s design in its 2021 context; consult the current guide and release notes for present compatibility details. Troubleshoot common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The provider does not initialize or playback does not start | Provider script version, script load order, and playback URL | Load the JW Player and IVS provider scripts before setup; verify that the URL is a valid IVS playback URL; check AWS release notes for the current provider asset rather than relying on the guide’s older illustrative version. |
| The stream is not recognized as IVS | Playlist item configuration | Confirm the item uses file for the IVS playback URL and type: 'ivs'. |
| IVS-specific callbacks never fire | Listener attached only to JW Player events | Wait for JW Player’s providerPlayer event, then attach the IVS listener to ivsPlayer using the supplied ivsEvents values where appropriate. |
| Chromecast appears but cannot play through this integration | Unsupported provider capability | Set cast: null to hide the casting option. The provider itself does not add casting support. |
| Playback fails only under a site CSP | Policy directives required by the deployed page | Review the CSP section of the IVS Web Guide and adapt the policy to the actual site requirements; do not copy a generic directive set without checking the deployment. |
