To replay the last 30 seconds in Streamlabs Desktop, enable Replay Buffer in Settings > Output, add an Instant Replay source to your scene, and assign a save-replay hotkey in Settings > Hotkeys. Start the buffer before you need it; pressing the hotkey then plays the captured interval through the scene.
Replay Buffer vs. Instant Replay
Replay Buffer is the background capture function: it retains the recent interval you choose in Output settings. Instant Replay is a source you add to a scene so the saved segment can play for your live audience. To keep or edit clips for later, use Streamlabs’ Replay/Highlighter workflow instead.
Set up Instant Replay in Streamlabs Desktop
- Choose the buffer duration. Open Settings > Output, enable Replay Buffer, and select how many seconds to retain. Streamlabs uses 20 seconds in its April 25, 2025 setup example and 30 seconds in its November 10, 2025 support example; these are examples, not requirements. Its recording guide documents a capture duration from one second to two minutes. Longer buffers require more memory, and Streamlabs does not specify an exact RAM requirement. Streamlabs’ setup guide and support guide describe the setup.
- Choose whether it starts with your stream. In Settings > General, enable Automatically start replay buffer when streaming if you want the buffer to start whenever you go live. You can also start it manually from the Streamlabs Desktop window.
- Add the playback source. In the scene where you want the replay to appear, add a source and select Instant Replay. Position and resize it in the scene as needed.
- Assign a save hotkey. Open Settings > Hotkeys and set a key combination for saving a replay. You may also assign hotkeys to show or hide the replay source, or switch to a dedicated replay scene. Streamlabs recommends using at least two keys for a hotkey to reduce accidental activation. See its hotkey guide.
- Start and test the buffer. Before going live, click Start Replay Buffer in the Streamlabs Desktop window, then test the save-replay hotkey. If automatic start is enabled, Streamlabs says the buffer starts automatically during streaming. Manual start also lets you capture while not live; the recording guide covers that workflow.
- Trigger the replay. Press the save-replay hotkey after the moment you want to capture. The saved interval plays in the Instant Replay source in your scene.
Choose a workflow that fits your use
- Short or long buffer: A shorter interval uses less memory; a longer one preserves more lead-in before the moment. Streamlabs does not quantify memory use, so choose a duration that fits your needs and available system resources.
- Automatic or manual start: Automatic start helps prevent forgetting the buffer when you go live. Manual start is useful when you only want to capture at selected times or while not streaming.
- Live replay or later editing: Instant Replay displays the clip in the scene. For later review, trimming, rearranging, and exporting, use Streamlabs’ Replay/Highlighter workflow as described in its recording guide.
- Keyboard or physical button: The hotkey is the underlying action. A Stream Deck is optional; you can assign its button the same hotkey for a physical capture control.
Troubleshooting
- The hotkey does nothing: Check that Replay Buffer is enabled in Settings > Output, that the buffer is running, and that a save-replay hotkey is assigned in Settings > Hotkeys. Test by starting the buffer manually before going live.
- The buffer is not running when the stream starts: Confirm Automatically start replay buffer when streaming is enabled in Settings > General. Otherwise, click Start Replay Buffer yourself.
- The replay does not appear in the scene: Confirm that the scene contains an Instant Replay source and that it is visible. Adjust its position or size if it is present but not framed as intended.
- You need the clip after the live moment: Use the Replay/Highlighter workflow to review, trim, reorder, and export saved clips; the Instant Replay source is for scene playback.
Or let it run in the cloud
Instant Replay is for replaying recent moments from your Streamlabs Desktop setup. If your separate goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running 24/7, StreamNeo is a cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays uploads, not a live camera feed.
