To loop a playlist of Indian music-video files on YouTube Live with FFmpeg, list compatible files in an FFmpeg concat playlist, loop that playlist with -stream_loop -1, encode or copy the media into a YouTube-compatible output, and send it to the stream URL and key from YouTube Live Control Room. The concat demuxer works best when every file has matching stream properties; mixed formats may need normalization or the concat filter. You also need the rights to broadcast both the music and video.
Before you start: check your files and rights
This method is for video files on a computer that you control. It does not establish that you have permission to broadcast their contents. Indian music videos can involve separate rights in the sound recording and audiovisual work. Obtain the necessary permissions for each track and video, and check the applicable license terms before streaming or retaining an archive. YouTube’s livestream terms describe the applicable agreements; no specific recording or license is verified here.
- Install an FFmpeg build that includes the demuxer and encoder you plan to use. Check it with
ffmpeg -version; inspect local options withffmpeg -h. - Put the video files in a stable directory, decide their order, and make a backup of the playlist file.
- Inspect the files’ streams, codecs, time bases, and durations before relying on concat. FFmpeg’s documentation notes that concat-demuxer inputs need matching stream properties. Incorrect duration metadata or differing stream lengths can cause timestamp artifacts or gaps.
Create an FFmpeg concat playlist
Make a plain-text file named playlist.txt in the working directory and list each file in the order it should play:
file 'video1.mp4'
file 'video2.mp4'
file 'video3.mp4'
Paths are interpreted relative to the process working directory unless specified otherwise. If a filename contains special characters, follow FFmpeg’s concat-script quoting and escaping rules and test the list locally. Keeping filenames simple reduces avoidable parsing problems.

Make the sources compatible
When stream copy may work
The concat demuxer can avoid re-encoding when the files already have compatible streams and the combined output is suitable for the chosen container and YouTube ingest. Matching file extensions alone is not enough: stream layout and parameters matter. If the inputs differ, copying may fail or produce glitches.
When to normalize or use the concat filter
For mismatched inputs, normalize the files to consistent video and audio characteristics first, or use FFmpeg’s concat filter, which the FFmpeg FAQ recommends when re-encoding is needed. Re-encoding uses compute, and appropriate output settings depend on the source files, computer, and connection; test the actual setup rather than assuming a particular machine can encode a given resolution in real time.

Connect FFmpeg to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube describes the key as functioning like a password and address in its live stream settings. Keep it out of screenshots, public code, and logs; reset it in Live Control Room if it is exposed.
- Use the exact endpoint YouTube provides for the selected stream. YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt the contribution stream to its servers.
Run a looping playlist with an illustrative command
This command is a starting illustration, not a tested universal preset. Replace the playlist path, output settings, and endpoint/key with values for your files and stream:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt
-c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -preset veryfast
-r 30 -g 60 -b:v 5000k -maxrate 5000k -bufsize 10000k
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
-rereads file input at approximately real-time rate for live output;-stream_loop -1repeats the concat input indefinitely.-f concatselects the concat demuxer.-safe 0permits more path forms; use it only with a playlist you control.-c:v libx264and-c:a aacencode video and audio using codecs listed in YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance. The example’s-r 30and-b:v 5000kare illustrative values, not a universal recommendation.- At 30 fps,
-g 60sets a two-second GOP/keyframe interval. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds. - The example uses AAC stereo settings of 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. YouTube’s guidance lists these for stereo; its listed settings for 5.1 audio are 48 kHz and 384 kbps.
FFmpeg’s exact option behavior and rate-control results can vary by version and build. YouTube recommends CBR; validate the encoder’s actual behavior locally. Choose resolution and frame rate first, then use YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table for the selected codec and combination rather than reusing an old tutorial’s number. YouTube also recommends square pixels, progressive scan, and Rec. 709 for SDR.

Test the preview and monitor the stream
- Start FFmpeg and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room.
- Check for moving video and audible sound, confirm you selected the intended stream, and review the reported stream health.
- When appropriate, test privately or as unlisted before making the stream public. Monitor the feed while it runs.
- To finish, use YouTube’s current end-stream workflow and stop the encoder cleanly.
A long-running unattended setup also depends on network stability, a running computer, available media storage, and recovery from encoder or machine failures. There is no single restart or supervision command established for every operating system and installation.

Troubleshooting concat and YouTube ingest
- Concat reports mismatched streams or output glitches: Compare stream properties across all files. Normalize them to a consistent format or use the concat filter when re-encoding is needed.
- Playback jumps, gaps, or timestamp artifacts at file changes: Check duration metadata and whether audio and video stream lengths differ. Test the sequence locally before a live session.
- Playlist entries are not found: Confirm the working directory and relative paths, or use correctly escaped paths. If using
-safe 0, restrict the playlist to files and paths you control. - YouTube does not show an incoming preview: Verify the selected stream, exact stream URL, private key, and network connection. Copy the URL/key from that stream’s Live Control Room rather than assuming an endpoint.
- Stream health is poor or the encoder cannot keep up: Check the selected resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and machine load against YouTube’s current settings. Re-encoding demands more compute than stream copy; reduce the target or use a machine that can sustain the chosen encode.
- The stream stops after an interruption: The local FFmpeg process depends on the computer and network staying available. Check encoder errors, network interruptions, machine restarts, and disk availability; unattended operation needs an appropriate monitoring and restart plan.
- A stream is blocked or claimed: Technical setup cannot establish broadcast permission. Review the rights for the recording and video and the applicable license terms; no particular song’s availability or Content ID outcome can be guaranteed.
