You can send viewers from an ended livestream to a Premiere with Live Redirect, but that handoff does not turn the Premiere into a 24/7 broadcast. For a dependable setup, plan the encoder, music rights, and replay strategy before you go live.
What a Premiere does—and what it does not do
A YouTube Premiere is a scheduled upload that viewers watch together. Its public watch page is available before playback, so viewers can share it, set reminders, comment, and chat. Playback begins with a countdown, and afterward the video remains on the channel as a regular upload. YouTube describes Premieres as a way for creators and viewers to experience a new video together in real time: Premiere a new video.
That makes a Premiere useful for a station launch, new mix, guest set, seasonal lineup, or recorded special. It is not a continuous radio feed: schedule it for a particular start time, and use a separate livestream for ongoing listening. Shorts cannot be Premiered, and Premiere output above 1080p is not supported, according to YouTube’s current guidance.
Schedule the Premiere at least 24 hours ahead if you want viewers around the world to have an opportunity to see its thumbnail in their subscriptions feed. A reminder sends a notification about 30 minutes before the start and again when it begins. These are YouTube’s stated behaviors, not a guarantee that every subscriber will see or receive a notification: YouTube Premiere guidance.

Run the 24/7 radio feed as an encoder livestream
The continuous feed is a YouTube Live broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room; the key functions like a password, so do not share it publicly. You can use software on a computer or a dedicated hardware encoder. YouTube supports both categories but does not require a particular product or endorse a specific setup in its guidance: YouTube encoder livestream guidance and Live encoder settings.
- Prepare your video and programming. Choose the recording or playlist that will form the radio feed. Check that you have the rights for the recordings and compositions, including the territories and uses involved; rights are discussed below.
- Create or schedule the livestream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream, or schedule one if you want an advance watch page and promotion. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- Configure the encoder. Enter the URL and key in your software or hardware encoder. RTMPS is available as an encrypted RTMP transport: select or copy the RTMPS URL in Live Control Room and use it with the stream key in the encoder. Keep the key private.
- Test before the public broadcast. If appropriate, use a private or unlisted test. Preview the incoming feed in Live Control Room and check the audio, video, watch-page access, and mobile playback. Prepare the encoder in advance, leave headroom in your upload bandwidth, monitor stream quality, and test any available backup or failover arrangement.
- Start the feed and monitor it. Confirm that the broadcast is visible and that the audio remains stable. A stream depends on the operating encoder, power, network, and the platform; plan who will monitor and respond to an interruption.
For encoder setup and current options, see YouTube’s live streaming with an encoder instructions and its encoder settings guidance. Exact controls can change, so follow the labels presented in your Live Control Room.

Send livestream viewers to a Premiere with Live Redirect
Live Redirect is a handoff between two events: when the livestream ends, eligible creators can direct viewers to a selected Premiere. Set up the Premiere first, then choose it as the livestream’s redirect destination. This is not an automatic loop or a way to keep the Premiere running after the event.
- Create and schedule the Premiere. Upload the finished program in YouTube Studio, set it to public, schedule its date and time, select “Set as Premiere,” and configure the countdown.
- Set the livestream redirect. In YouTube Studio’s Live content settings, edit the livestream’s customization or redirect setting and select the Premiere as the destination. The exact placement of controls may change.
- Tell viewers what to expect. Promote the Premiere watch page in the channel description, community posts, livestream description, and pinned chat. Let viewers know the stream will end and that their player may take a few seconds to reload.
- End the livestream. Viewers are sent to the chosen Premiere if the channel and event meet YouTube’s eligibility and setup requirements.
YouTube currently lists more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes as eligibility requirements for a creator sending a Live Redirect. Check YouTube’s current instructions before scheduling around the feature: Redirect your viewers to a Premiere or live stream.

Choose a continuity and replay plan
A single stream lasting a day or longer is not a safe way to guarantee a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all and recommends keeping a local archive. Its encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but an archive should not replace your own recording when a complete replay matters: YouTube encoder guidance.
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during a livestream, but YouTube says it may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If rewind and replay matter, consider ending and restarting planned sessions before that threshold and recording locally. Shorter sessions are an operational mitigation, not a guarantee against every interruption or platform issue: YouTube DVR guidance.

| Approach | Best fit | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | A creator who already has a capable computer and wants a lower-cost setup. | The computer’s uptime, updates, heat, and local network become operating responsibilities. YouTube supports software encoders but does not endorse a particular setup in the cited guidance. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | A purpose-built or higher-production broadcast installation. | Cost and device-specific compatibility need evaluation. Check supported inputs, codec and output options, monitoring, and recovery planning; YouTube does not establish that a particular model is required. |
| One stream lasting a day or longer | An operator prioritizing one uninterrupted session. | Archive capture and DVR may be limited beyond 12 hours, making this a poor choice when a complete replay is essential. |
| Planned shorter sessions plus a local recording | An operator who values replay and recovery. | Requires transition planning and enough local storage and recording capacity. YouTube recommends a local archive backup. |
Clear music rights before going live
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses), and other royalty participants: YouTube livestream terms and conditions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder; if the matched content continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. Archived streams can also receive Content ID claims after the live event: YouTube’s guidance on copyrighted content in live streams.

- Confirm that permissions cover the sound recording and the underlying composition, as applicable.
- Check that the license covers the territories in which the stream will be available and the intended live and archive uses.
- Ask the rights holder or licensing provider whether your channel needs to be allowlisted to avoid automated live-match interruptions.
- Keep records of permissions and any allowlisting confirmation.
YouTube’s general documentation cannot determine whether a particular station’s licenses cover its catalog, territory, or uses. Confirm that coverage with the relevant rights holders or a qualified adviser before broadcasting.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube radio feed without leaving an encoder computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on a YouTube channel. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality, and it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops, and support from the StreamNeo team. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only. The service does not remove your responsibility to clear music rights.
See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
