Schedule the event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then use an encoder to send the prerecorded video and audio to it. The event creates the scheduled watch page; the encoder supplies the live feed and must handle repeating the file. When the feed appears in the preview, start the event in Live Control Room.
What you need before scheduling
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- A prerecorded video file and an encoder that can play it and repeat it. YouTube supports encoder software and hardware, but looping controls vary by encoder.
- The stream URL and stream key for the scheduled event. Treat the key as a password: it directs the encoder feed to your channel.
- A reliable internet connection and enough time to test the feed before the planned start.
YouTube’s encoder guide also names the AJA HELO Plus as a hardware option: its PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. It is optional; a computer and software encoder are also supported.
Schedule and run the prerecorded loop

Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
Open YouTube Studio > Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room, then choose Manage > Schedule stream. Set the event details and planned start time. Scheduling creates the watch page and may make the event appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds, where viewers can choose Notify me.
Check the channel’s live-stream eligibility before planning a public event. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.

Configure the encoder to play and repeat your file
In your selected encoder, load the prerecorded file using its media playback feature and enable repeat or loop. The exact control and behavior are encoder-specific; YouTube does not provide one universal file-loop setting for every encoder. Confirm in the encoder’s own documentation that playback repeats as intended and that any scheduling options suit your event.

Connect the encoder to the scheduled event
In the event’s Live Control Room settings, copy its stream URL and stream key into the corresponding encoder fields. Make sure you are using the key for the scheduled event, not a different stream. YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private.

Set a compatible stream format
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS transport; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; and frame rates up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport and a two-second keyframe interval. Match your encoder to the current YouTube settings guidance and test the actual feed rather than assuming a configuration will work.

Start the encoder early and check the preview
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Confirm the Live Control Room preview shows the expected video and audio, check the stream health indicator, and make sure the watch page is accessible as intended. For a private rehearsal, use an unlisted test stream.

Start the YouTube event
Once the correct feed appears in the preview, select Go live in Live Control Room. YouTube documents this as a separate step from starting the encoder, unless auto-start is enabled and configured for the stream. Confirm the public watch page is showing the event.

End the stream and preserve a copy
When the planned run is over, stop the event and the encoder. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording or another archive copy, especially for a long loop, and check that the local file is being saved correctly while the stream runs.

Preflight checklist for a dependable event
- Confirm the scheduled event, time zone, visibility, title, and watch page are correct.
- Verify the encoder is connected to that event’s stream URL and key.
- Check that the file loops without an unintended pause, black frame, or audio gap at the end of each cycle.
- Listen for sound and watch representative sections of the video in the Live Control Room preview.
- Monitor stream health and confirm the channel watch page is receiving the feed.
- If using local recording, verify that it is writing to the expected location and that storage is available.
- Keep a local copy of the source file and do not depend on YouTube’s archive for streams longer than 12 hours.
Common problems and fixes

Copyright and channel policy checks
Before broadcasting a prerecorded loop, confirm you have the rights needed for every video, music track, image, and other included material. A scheduled event and a looping encoder do not grant permission to use copyrighted content. Review YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-streaming rules for your channel, and do not assume that material is safe merely because it is prerecorded, repeated, or available online. A loop’s technical setup also does not establish eligibility for monetization; check YouTube’s current monetization and reused-content policies for the specific content and channel.
