How to Use a Google Drive Podcast Folder as a YouTube Live Playlist

Use Drive as the file source, playback software to assemble the episodes, and an encoder to send one feed to a YouTube Live event.

You can’t connect a Google Drive folder directly to YouTube Live as a playlist. Instead, make the podcast files available to a computer, use playback or automation software to play them in your chosen order, and send that computer’s program output to a YouTube Live event through an encoder. Drive stores the source files; the playback software determines order and repeat behavior; the encoder sends one continuous feed to YouTube.

How the Drive-to-YouTube workflow works

A YouTube video playlist and a YouTube Live stream are different things. A video playlist is a sequence of uploaded YouTube videos. A live event receives an encoded program feed from software or hardware. Google’s Drive documentation covers folder sharing and access to files, while YouTube’s live-streaming guidance describes connecting an encoder to an event; neither documents converting a Drive folder directly into a live playlist (YouTube Live streaming overview; Google Drive folder sharing).

That means the playback or automation tool—not Drive or YouTube—must handle episode order, transitions, and whether playback repeats. Those behaviors vary by tool, so verify them with a test rather than assuming that a folder will play continuously by itself.

Prepare the podcast folder and playback computer

  1. Check access. Sign in to the Google account that will be used on the playback computer and make sure it can open every episode. Google says folder permissions are inherited by files and subfolders, including items added later. Review who can access the folder before using a link-sharing setting.
  2. Choose how Drive files will be available. Drive for desktop can stream files, keeping them primarily in the cloud and using less local disk space, or mirror My Drive for a full local copy. Streaming depends on a reliable internet connection; mirroring uses local storage. Google describes these modes in its Drive for desktop guidance.
  3. Check compatibility and order. Confirm that your playback software can open the episode file formats and can produce the sequence you want. If you need a continuous broadcast, test its repeat, end-of-list, and recovery behavior; folder access alone does not establish those capabilities.

Enable YouTube Live and create the event

Before planning a broadcast, confirm that the channel is eligible. YouTube’s current guidance requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave enablement until broadcast day (YouTube live-streaming eligibility).

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. A scheduled event provides a watch page that you can share in advance; viewers may also receive reminders.
  2. Open the event’s stream settings and locate the stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains where these connection details are used (YouTube encoder setup).
  3. Treat the stream key like a password. Enter it only in the encoder you control, and reset it in YouTube Studio if you think it has been exposed.

Connect playback to an encoder

  1. Open your chosen playback or automation software and load the episodes in the intended sequence. Set its output to the continuous program feed you want viewers to see or hear.
  2. Configure a software or hardware encoder to send that output to YouTube. Enter the YouTube stream URL as the server and the stream key in the key field. YouTube supports both software and hardware encoder approaches; the right choice depends on your production and operating needs (YouTube encoder options).
  3. Choose a resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate supported by your encoder and suitable for the program. YouTube’s recommended settings vary by resolution and frame rate, so consult its current encoder settings table rather than treating one bitrate as universal. Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it for encrypted ingest.
  4. Check the total bitrate of the outgoing feed against the computer’s available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom above the required total bitrate (YouTube streaming tips and settings).

Test, go live, and monitor the broadcast

  1. Run a full test before the planned broadcast. Play a representative episode with audio and visuals similar to the live program, and make sure the playback computer can read the files without interruptions.
  2. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview for the expected picture and sound. Review stream health and messages, and confirm the scheduled event’s watch page is reachable.
  3. Start the encoder in time for the event and keep an eye on the feed for dropped connections, missing audio, or playback stopping between episodes. Stop the encoder when the broadcast is over.

YouTube’s encoder guide says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. If the broadcast may run longer, do not assume the full stream will be available as an archive (YouTube encoder guide).

Choose cloud streaming or local mirroring

Drive file mode Local disk use Connection dependency Practical consideration
Streaming Uses less local disk space; files stay primarily in the cloud. Playback depends on a reliable internet connection to access files. Confirm the playback computer can consistently access each episode.
Mirroring My Drive Stores a full local copy and uses local storage. Once files are mirrored, playback can read the local copies. Allow enough disk capacity for the episode collection and check that files are synchronized before broadcast.

Google documents the storage and access distinction between streaming and mirroring, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted playback for a particular computer or connection. For either mode, test the entire chain from file access through YouTube preview.

Common problems and fixes

  • A file will not play: Check that the playback account has permission to open it and that the chosen playback software supports its format. Test each episode before adding it to a long broadcast sequence.
  • Playback stalls or an episode is missing: For Drive streaming, check the internet connection and file availability. For mirroring, confirm the file has finished synchronizing and that local storage is available.
  • YouTube does not receive the feed: Confirm the encoder is using the event’s current stream URL and key, and that the encoder has started sending. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
  • Preview shows poor quality or connection warnings: Check stream health, the encoder’s selected settings, and available upload bandwidth. Reduce the outgoing bitrate or resolution if it exceeds what the connection can sustain, while following YouTube’s current recommended settings and retaining the recommended 20% headroom.
  • Episodes do not repeat or play in the expected order: Review the playback tool’s playlist and automation settings. YouTube receives the resulting feed; it does not control the underlying episode sequence.

Keep podcast rights and YouTube rules in view

Having a podcast file in Drive does not by itself establish that you have the rights to rebroadcast its music, clips, artwork, or other material. Check that you have the necessary permissions for a live broadcast and any resulting archive. YouTube’s live eligibility and encoder setup are separate from content rights; review the current YouTube live-streaming requirements and the applicable copyright rules before scheduling the event. Replaying recorded episodes as a live feed also does not guarantee that YouTube will treat a channel as eligible for monetization; monetization decisions depend on YouTube’s current policies and channel review.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want the recorded program to keep running without leaving a playback computer on at home, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded material in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. The stream is sent to YouTube only; StreamNeo does not take a Drive folder as the live program source, so use files you can upload to the service.
