It cannot restore a source that has stopped sending video: for that, you need a fallback clip, a second live encoder, or a recovery procedure. For a YouTube loop made from uploaded video, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative that handles the looping without a home computer staying on.
What a cloud relay does—and what it cannot do
The basic route is video source → encoder → cloud relay → streaming platform. Your encoder sends its live output to an account-issued RTMP or SRT address and stream key (or stream ID). The relay then forwards the feed to the platform destinations you select. Google Cloud Live Stream API documents distribution to remote RTMP or SRT endpoints in push mode; Restream documents encoder ingest and destination setup. Google Cloud’s remote-endpoint guide and Restream’s encoder guide describe those workflows.
A relay can reduce the operational burden of sending a feed to destinations, but it is not the source of the video. If the encoder, source file, or connection to the relay fails, the relay cannot recreate the missing live input by itself. Continuity requires a separate response, such as a fallback video or a second encoder.
Choose the source and relay arrangement
Encoder to managed relay
With a managed relay such as Restream, create an encoder stream, copy the connection details the service issues, choose your destinations, and start the encoder. Protocol support, destination options, and resilience features depend on the provider and plan; check current eligibility before configuring a production stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Google Cloud Live Stream API to remote endpoints
Google Cloud’s documented push-mode workflow sends output to remote RTMP or SRT endpoints. It requires configuring the endpoint and the cloud streaming workflow; it is not simply a relay address that can be assumed to exist without setup. Consult the official guide for the applicable configuration.
Self-managed VPS relay
A community project demonstrates one possible topology: OBS sends SRT to a VPS-hosted MediaMTX relay, which then provides downstream outputs. The example shows an implementation path, not a hosting guarantee or evidence of uptime, security, price, or ease of maintenance. View the OBS-to-VPS relay project.

Configure an encoder-to-relay stream
- Create the stream at the relay. In the selected service, create an encoder stream and add the destination platform or platforms. Use the provider’s current documentation for its exact interface and plan requirements.
- Copy the issued connection details. Enter the relay’s exact RTMP or SRT URL and the associated stream key or stream ID in your encoder. Treat these credentials as private; do not substitute sample values from a guide or publish a working key.
- Set the encoder’s service and protocol. For Restream’s documented SRT setup, its guide instructs users to configure OBS with a Custom service and use the URL provided by Restream. SRT availability is documented for Business and custom Enterprise plans; confirm current eligibility in Restream’s SRT instructions.
- Check network access. Restream’s network guide lists port 1935 for RTMP/RTMPS and UDP port 2010 for SRT encoder traffic. A firewall or gateway that blocks the required traffic can prevent connection. These are Restream’s listed requirements, not universal port settings for every relay; verify the current settings for your chosen provider in its network guide.
- Select the continuity behavior before going live. Decide whether viewers should see a holding clip if the source disconnects, whether a second live encoder will take over, or whether both are appropriate and supported by the service.
- Start the encoder and confirm the destination view. Check the relay’s connection status and verify that the actual destination receives the intended fireplace video and audio, if any.
Plan for source interruptions
Fallback video: a temporary holding image or clip
A fallback video is a preselected holding clip shown when the live input disconnects. Restream’s disconnect-protection feature must be configured before the active stream; its documented fallback intervals are 5, 15, or 30 minutes. If the source does not reconnect within the configured interval, Restream says the stream ends at the destinations. Availability depends on plan and provider configuration. See Restream’s disconnect-protection instructions.
Backup stream: a second live input
A backup stream is not the same as a fallback clip. It is a second live feed, typically supplied by another encoder, that can replace the primary input when it fails. Restream documents backup streams separately from disconnect protection and notes plan requirements. Keep the main and backup feeds closely matched—especially their picture and audio—if you want the changeover to feel less jarring. Follow the provider’s setup instructions in Restream’s backup-stream guide.

What “24/7” means in practice
Continuous streaming is an operating plan, not a universal uptime guarantee. Restream says it does not guarantee a stream will remain live for more than 24 hours, even with its backup feature, and recommends restarting continuous streams every 24 hours. This is specific to Restream’s documented service, not a stated limit for every cloud relay. Its guide says to ask about a custom plan for longer duration. No independent uptime figure is established by these provider descriptions.
Test and operate the stream
- Run a full-path check. Send the intended fireplace feed through the relay to each destination and confirm the viewer-facing result.
- Simulate a source interruption. During a controlled test, disconnect the primary input and observe whether the configured fallback or backup behaves as expected; reconnect and confirm recovery. Do this before relying on the setup for an unattended stream.
- Prepare a recovery procedure. Record who can restart the encoder or relay, where current credentials are stored, and how to check destination status. Keep credentials private.
- Schedule restarts when required by the service. For Restream’s documented continuous-stream case, plan a restart every 24 hours; do not apply that service-specific guidance as a universal limit.

| Managed relay such as Restream | RTMP/SRT encoder workflows, destination setup, disconnect protection, and backup-stream features; some features require higher-tier plans. | Supported protocols and destinations, plan eligibility, fallback interval, stream-duration guidance, monitoring, support, and total cost. |
| Google Cloud Live Stream API | Push-mode distribution to remote RTMP or SRT endpoints, with endpoint configuration required. | Cloud setup effort, regions, billing, operational ownership, stream duration, and destination compatibility. |

Copyright and YouTube considerations
A fireplace loop still needs rights clearance for every element in the stream: footage, music, sound effects, and any other included material. A relay changes how a feed is delivered; it does not grant rights or make reused content eligible for monetization. Review the applicable YouTube rules for copyright and reused content, and keep documentation of licenses or permissions for material you did not create. StreamNeo also provides a copyright safety checklist.
