You can store a video in DigitalOcean Spaces and upload a copy to YouTube, but the documented YouTube Studio workflow selects a file from your computer—it does not import a video directly from a Spaces URL. Spaces can store and deliver a file; it does not, by itself, send that file to YouTube Live or loop it as a broadcast. Choose the workflow that matches your goal: publish a regular YouTube video, serve a file from Spaces, or send a live feed to YouTube.
Choose the workflow that matches your goal
| Workflow | What it does | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio upload | Imports a prepared file to YouTube, where you can set its details and visibility. | The documented flow does not import directly from a Spaces URL. |
| DigitalOcean Spaces object and CDN | Stores a file and serves it by URL; a CDN can deliver cached content from edge servers. | Spaces storage or CDN is not YouTube ingestion, transcoding, or playback looping. |
| YouTube Live encoder | Sends a live feed to YouTube using an encoder and stream key. | The cited YouTube and DigitalOcean instructions do not show how to pull a Spaces object into an encoder and loop it automatically. |
These are separate workflows. Uploading a video to YouTube is different from hosting it in Spaces, and both differ from broadcasting a live stream.
Upload a video to YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create → Upload videos.
- Select the video file from your computer. YouTube describes upload as importing the video file to YouTube; its documented instructions do not describe selecting a Spaces object by URL.
- Enter the video details and choose the visibility and publishing options appropriate for your channel.
- Publish when you want the video to be available to viewers. YouTube distinguishes upload from publication: an uploaded file is not necessarily publicly available. Check its visibility and publishing state if viewers cannot watch it.
YouTube says it converts uploaded videos to the highest resolution available for playback across devices and networks. This YouTube-native upload and playback process is not the same as keeping an encoder live.
Upload and serve a video with DigitalOcean Spaces
Upload in the control panel
- Open the relevant Spaces bucket and select its Files tab.
- Choose the upload action, select the local file, and set its access to Private or Public.
- Wait for the upload to complete, then use the object’s URL according to the access setting you selected.
DigitalOcean’s 2026 documentation says the browser control panel supports individual files smaller than 2 GB and batches of fewer than 100 files. For larger files or batches, use an S3-compatible client or the API. DigitalOcean’s doctl CLI does not support uploading files to Spaces. Multipart uploads split a large object into parts that can be retried independently, which can make large transfers more reliable.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose access deliberately
- Private: Spaces objects are private by default. A private object needs authorization, or you can provide temporary access through a presigned URL.
- Public: Anyone with the object URL can access a public object. Make only files intended for public access public.
- Bucket listing: Permission to list files in a bucket is a separate setting from access to an individual object. A public object does not mean you need to expose a bucket’s file listing.
Use the Spaces CDN when it fits
DigitalOcean documents CDN integration for Standard Storage buckets. Enable the CDN and serve the object from its CDN endpoint to use edge delivery. The default edge-cache TTL is one hour; updates to an object may not appear everywhere immediately if a cached copy remains. Presigned requests are not cached, and Spaces Cold Storage does not support CDN integration.
A Spaces URL—whether served directly or through the CDN—is a way to deliver an object. It is not a documented way to import that object into YouTube Studio or to make YouTube Live loop it.

Loop a YouTube video or broadcast prerecorded content live?
Looping a regular video
The cited YouTube documentation establishes a specific loop behavior for Clips: YouTube Help says Clips are 5–60 seconds long and play on a loop from the original video’s watch page. That describes Clips, not a general control for looping an ordinary full-length video, and it does not describe looping a file hosted in Spaces.
Broadcasting a prerecorded file as a live stream
A prerecorded-to-live broadcast requires a live-streaming method that sends a feed to YouTube. YouTube supports methods including an encoder, webcam, or mobile streaming, subject to the channel’s eligibility and setup. The cited documentation does not establish a direct Spaces-to-YouTube Live workflow or specify software, a loop configuration, or a procedure for making an encoder pull a Spaces object. Do not treat an object URL or CDN endpoint as a ready-made live-stream source.

If you choose an encoder-based setup, the encoder must send a live feed to YouTube using the stream settings and stream key for your broadcast. YouTube defines the stream key as a credential/address the encoder uses to send the feed. The stream key is not a public video URL; keep it private and use the encoder’s supported configuration. The method for loading, repeating, and sending a prerecorded file depends on the particular encoder or service, which these sources do not specify.
Set up and check a YouTube Live encoder stream
Confirm channel eligibility and stream settings
- YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days.
- In YouTube’s live setup, choose whether the stream is Public, Private, or Unlisted according to who should be able to view it.
- Configure the encoder with the stream key and settings shown for the YouTube broadcast. Treat the key as a secret credential; do not publish it or include it in a public Spaces object.
- If you enable DVR, viewers can pause, rewind, and resume the stream. Consider whether that behavior suits the broadcast.
Check bandwidth and the preview
- Before going live, confirm that your available upload bandwidth exceeds the total bitrate of the stream. YouTube Help recommends 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate; this is YouTube’s recommendation, not a guarantee of performance.
- Start the encoder and check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room before sending viewers to the broadcast.
- Verify that the watch page is accessible as intended, including on mobile, and monitor audio and video quality while streaming.
These checks cover the YouTube encoder workflow; they do not supply the missing steps for connecting a Spaces-hosted prerecorded file to a particular encoder or looping it.

Common problems and what to check
- You cannot select a Spaces URL in YouTube Studio: The documented upload flow selects a file from the computer. Download or otherwise make a local copy available, then select that file in Studio.
- A Spaces upload fails in the browser: Check the documented control-panel limits: each file must be smaller than 2 GB, and a batch must contain fewer than 100 files. For larger transfers, use an S3-compatible client or API; consider multipart upload for a large object.
- A viewer cannot open a Spaces object: Check whether it is private. Use authorized access or a presigned URL for temporary access, or make the object public only if anyone with its URL should be able to view it.
- A bucket’s files are visible in a listing: Review bucket file-listing permission separately from each object’s privacy setting.
- An updated CDN-served file appears stale: The default edge-cache TTL is one hour, so an edge may continue serving a cached copy after an update.
- A presigned request does not benefit from CDN caching: DigitalOcean says presigned requests are not cached. Use the access method appropriate to the file’s privacy needs rather than assuming the CDN caches private, signed requests.
- YouTube viewers cannot access a live broadcast: Check channel eligibility, the broadcast’s visibility, the stream key and encoder connection, and the Live Control Room preview and watch page.
- The live feed is unstable or drops frames: Compare the available upload bandwidth with the stream’s total bitrate and leave the headroom YouTube recommends. Also monitor audio and video quality in Live Control Room.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuously looping prerecorded video on YouTube, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live.
