To unlock mobile live streaming on YouTube, your channel needs at least 50 subscribers, must be verified, and must have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. You also need to enable live streaming, use a supported phone, and meet YouTube’s minimum age requirement. After enabling it for the first time, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours.
Check that your channel and phone meet YouTube’s requirements
- At least 50 subscribers: This is the minimum for live streaming from the YouTube mobile app; it does not remove the other eligibility requirements.
- Verified channel: YouTube requires channel verification for live streaming.
- No recent live-streaming restrictions: Your channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Live streaming enabled: If you have not streamed before, you may need to turn on the feature and wait for activation.
- Supported operating system: YouTube lists Android 8.0 or later and iOS 8 or later.
- Age 16 or older: YouTube’s general live-streaming instructions set the minimum age at 16. This is separate from the 50-subscriber mobile requirement.

Enable the feature and start a mobile live stream
- Confirm you have at least 50 subscribers. The threshold applies specifically to going live from the mobile app.
- Verify your channel. Complete YouTube’s channel verification if you have not already done so.
- Check for restrictions. Confirm that the channel has not had a live-streaming restriction within the past 90 days.
- Turn on live streaming. Follow YouTube’s live-streaming setup. For a first mobile stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation; YouTube does not guarantee an instant start.
- Open the YouTube app. Tap Create, then Live.
- Set up the stream. Enter its details and choose the audience options presented in the app.
- Go live. Tap Go live when the details are ready. The app also offers options to schedule a stream for later or screencast your phone screen.

If you have 50 subscribers but still can’t go live
Subscriber count is only one condition. Work through the requirements rather than assuming that reaching 50 subscribers automatically makes the Live option available.

- Live is missing from Create: Recheck channel verification, the 90-day restriction window, whether live streaming is enabled, and your phone’s operating-system version.
- You enabled live streaming recently: YouTube says first-time mobile activation can take up to 24 hours. If that period has passed and the option is still unavailable, its official instructions do not specify a separate manual override or a guaranteed alternative fix.
- Your channel has a restriction: A recent live-streaming restriction can prevent access even when the channel has enough subscribers. Check the channel’s status and YouTube’s live-streaming rules.
- Your phone may not meet the listed minimum: Confirm it runs Android 8.0 or later or iOS 8 or later.
Do not treat reinstalling the app, refreshing the page, or waiting longer than YouTube’s stated activation window as guaranteed solutions; YouTube’s reviewed instructions do not promise that they will resolve access.
What to expect below 1,000 subscribers
Reaching 50 subscribers makes a channel eligible to use mobile live streaming, but it does not guarantee unrestricted reach. YouTube may limit the audience for mobile live streams from channels with 50 to 999 subscribers and may set their archived streams to private by default. YouTube says these changes can take a few weeks to be reflected. It also says a channel will not lose mobile live-streaming access unless it falls below 50 subscribers.
