To enable channel memberships, open YouTube Studio on a computer, select Earn > Memberships > Get started, then follow the setup prompts and accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) if YouTube asks. The Memberships tab appears only when YouTube considers your channel eligible. A 24/7 schedule does not require a separate switch, and continuous streaming alone does not make a channel eligible.
Check eligibility before looking for the Memberships tab
YouTube’s current eligibility overview lists these entry thresholds for channel memberships: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours from long-form videos in the previous 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days (YouTube Partner Program overview, checked in 2026). These thresholds are only part of the eligibility test.
- Your channel must be in the YouTube Partner Program, and you must be at least 18.
- You must live in a location where channel memberships are available.
- Your channel and videos must comply with membership requirements. A channel set as Made for Kids, or with a significant number of Made for Kids or otherwise ineligible videos, may not qualify.
- You must accept and comply with the Commerce Product Module or applicable prior agreement, YouTube monetization policies, and other applicable terms and laws.
- Some music channels, including channels under SRAV contracts, are ineligible.
YouTube may review the channel before surfacing the feature. If you have just been accepted into YPP, activation may take up to two days while YouTube reviews eligibility (YouTube Help: channel memberships eligibility and policies; YouTube Help: turn on channel memberships).
Turn on memberships in YouTube Studio on a computer
- Sign in to YouTube Studio using the channel that will offer memberships.
- In the left menu, click Earn.
- Open the Memberships tab. YouTube says the tab surfaces only if the channel is eligible.
- Click Get started and follow the on-screen setup.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) if prompted.
- After activation, create your membership levels and perks. YouTube presents setting up levels and perks as the next step after turning memberships on.
Use the YouTube Studio mobile app
In the Studio app, go to Earn > Memberships and follow the prompts. If you do not see a Memberships card on Android, check for Get started in the Memberships section (YouTube Help: turn on channel memberships).

What memberships mean for a 24/7 live stream
YouTube supports memberships on both horizontal live streams and vertical live feeds (YouTube Help: channel memberships on live streams). Memberships allow viewers to make recurring monthly payments in exchange for members-only perks. You can offer members-only live streams as a perk, subject to YouTube’s rules.
Enabling memberships does not automatically make an existing public 24/7 stream members-only. Decide which stream or benefits are intended for members, and configure those separately. YouTube’s guidance confirms support for memberships on live streams; it does not say that every continuously running stream qualifies for approval.

Choose perks that comply with YouTube’s rules
Before publishing levels, check the current membership policies and make sure each promised benefit is deliverable and permitted. YouTube prohibits, among other things:
- Downloads of content that is already available on YouTube.
- In-person one-to-one meetings.
- Competitions or sweepstakes where winners are selected at random.
- Perks directed at or attractive to children.
YouTube also states that fan-funding features are not crowdfunding or donation tools. Do not describe membership payments as donations or promise a prohibited perk (YouTube Help: channel memberships eligibility and policies).

If Memberships is missing or setup is unavailable
- Memberships is not in Earn: YouTube only displays the tab when it considers the channel eligible. Check the thresholds and the additional YPP, age, location, content, and policy requirements above.
- You have only recently joined YPP: Allow up to two days for YouTube’s eligibility review before treating the missing feature as a setup problem.
- You meet the numbers but still cannot activate it: Subscriber, upload, and viewing thresholds do not override the other eligibility checks, including channel content restrictions and music-channel exclusions.
- You are using the mobile app: Open Earn > Memberships; on Android, look for Get started within the Memberships section if the card is not visible.
- You are planning a members-only stream: Treat that as a specific membership perk, not an automatic change to your public always-on broadcast.
