You can turn recorded gaming videos into a continuous YouTube Live rerun, but YouTube does not convert a playlist into a live broadcast by itself. You need a playback source, an encoder or cloud service that sends its audio and video to YouTube, and a live broadcast for viewers to watch. The simplest route is to play your recordings through a continuously running local encoder; a cloud service can host the playback instead.
How a live rerun channel works
A YouTube playlist organizes videos for viewers to watch on demand. A live channel requires a continuous incoming audio-video feed. YouTube’s Live Streaming API describes these as separate things: the stream carries audio and video to YouTube, and the broadcast is the viewer-facing live video. The API guide also identifies a 24/7 channel feed as a use case. It does not describe a direct, one-click conversion of a hosted playlist into a live feed.
For a rerun, the playback source must move through the recordings continuously, and an encoder or streaming service must transmit that playback to the live broadcast. The source may be local media played on a computer or, if the chosen service supports it, media hosted elsewhere. Check playlist and file compatibility with the tool you select rather than assuming a YouTube playlist can be ingested directly.
Check YouTube eligibility and prepare the broadcast
YouTube’s current Help Center guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16. YouTube lists encoders as a streaming method and notes their common use for gameplay. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance before planning the launch.

- Confirm eligibility. Check channel verification, recent live-streaming restrictions, and the streamer’s age against YouTube’s current rules.
- Create the receiving live event. In YouTube Studio, set up a live broadcast and choose its visibility and schedule. Use the stream key and connection details shown for that event in your encoder or service; treat the key as a password and do not publish it.
- Choose the playback and encoding path. For a local setup, run playback software and an encoder on a computer that can remain on. For a cloud setup, verify that the service supports your media source and continuous reruns. The official guidance establishes the encoder model, not particular software configurations or vendor capabilities.
- Test privately or unlisted. Google’s Live Streaming Guide recommends testing the complete setup using a private or unlisted stream. Check that video and audio play, playback moves between recordings cleanly, and the broadcast remains connected. Also decide what viewers will see if playback stops.
- Start the rerun. Start the playback loop, then connect and start the encoder or service for the YouTube event. Confirm the live preview and status in YouTube Studio before sharing the broadcast link.
Make the gaming rerun rights-safe
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may replace the picture with a placeholder and warn you; continued use can lead to interruption or termination. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a live stream. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Review every recording you plan to rerun, not just the game footage. Check whether you have the rights to rebroadcast the gameplay recording and any included music, cutscenes, overlays, or other third-party material. Owning a game or having previously uploaded a video does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it live. If you have licensed third-party material, YouTube says the owner may need to add your channel to their Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not prevent an interruption.
