Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Start with the exact warning in YouTube Live Control Room, then inspect the audio stream FFmpeg actually sends. For a typical stereo podcast, a practical baseline is one AAC audio stream, 44.1 kHz, two channels and 128 Kbps. The core YouTube audio requirements cited here are not India-specific; a broadcast’s location alone does not explain a codec, sample-rate or stream-mapping error.
Read YouTube’s error before changing FFmpeg settings
A file can play correctly on your computer and still produce an invalid live output. YouTube checks the stream it receives, so diagnose the encoded output and its selected streams rather than relying on the input file’s properties.
| YouTube warning or symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| No audio stream | The output must contain exactly one audio stream. Check that an audio stream is mapped and enabled. |
| Multiple audio streams | Choose the intended track explicitly and make sure the output contains only one audio stream. |
| Unsupported audio codec | Use AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS; YouTube’s encoder settings recommend AAC. |
| Incorrect sample rate | Check the output rate. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists 44.1 kHz for stereo and recommends 44.1 or 48 kHz generally. |
| Audio bitrate warning | Compare the actual output bitrate with YouTube’s guidance and the exact warning. Its encoder settings recommend 128 Kbps for stereo. |
| Too many channels | The cited live-ingestion guidance supports mono or stereo, no more than two channels. |
YouTube’s error guide describes the no-audio case this way: “Your encoder is sending no audio. On some encoders there’s a tick box to turn on audio. YouTube’s pipeline requires audio on all videos.” See YouTube’s live streaming error messages and its Live Streaming API configuration issues.
Inspect the audio FFmpeg selects and sends
Check the input tracks
List the input’s streams and identify the intended audio track. If a recording has commentary, music, alternate-language tracks or other audio streams, do not assume FFmpeg will choose the one you want. FFmpeg selects streams according to its rules; use explicit mapping when needed. Consult the FFmpeg documentation for stream selection and options supported by your installed version.

Check the output, not just the command
Confirm the encoded output contains exactly one audio stream and that its codec, bitrate, sample rate and channel count match your intent. FFmpeg’s -map controls stream selection; -c:a, -b:a, -ar and channel options control audio encoding and output parameters. An option in a command is not proof that the intended stream was affected.
Use explicit mapping for a known single-input layout
If the input has video and its first audio stream is the podcast mix, this illustrative pattern makes the selection and audio settings explicit:

This is not a tested end-to-end YouTube command. It assumes the input has a video stream and the desired audio is the first audio stream. A podcast-only audio file may need a video source or still image because YouTube Live expects video as well. The container, input source, protocol and current ingest setup also affect the full command. Verify the output and Live Control Room status before relying on it.

Correct common stereo podcast settings
For a typical stereo podcast, YouTube’s cited encoder guidance supports this starting point:
- Audio codec: AAC (MP3 is also listed as supported for RTMP/RTMPS).
- Sample rate: 44.1 kHz.
- Channels: two (stereo).
- Audio bitrate: 128 Kbps.
- Audio streams in the output: exactly one.
YouTube’s encoder settings also list 48 kHz and 384 Kbps for 5.1 surround audio, but its cited live-ingestion Help and API guidance says no more than two audio channels for the documented path. Do not infer that a 5.1 setting is valid for your live stream simply because those values appear on the encoder settings page; follow the precise Live Control Room error and the applicable ingest guidance.

Use stream health to distinguish configuration from missing data
The YouTube Live Streaming API describes health states as good, ok, bad or noData, with typed configuration issues. A noData result means YouTube’s backend has no stream-health information; it does not, by itself, establish that the audio codec is wrong. Check whether FFmpeg is sending data and use the exact health message to choose the next diagnostic step.
If the warning points to connection or stream-health problems rather than audio configuration, follow YouTube’s guidance to monitor stream health and test upload capacity. The official guidance does not establish a special audio codec or bitrate for India, nor does it identify an India-specific network workaround.
Troubleshoot by symptom
YouTube says there is no audio
- Confirm the input has an audio stream.
- Check the command for an explicit mapping such as
-map 0:a:0, adjusted to the actual input. - Inspect the output stream listing to verify exactly one audio stream is present and enabled.
- If using an encoder interface, check that audio has not been disabled.
YouTube reports multiple audio streams
- Inspect all input tracks and the final output tracks.
- Map only the intended audio stream; remove or exclude additional audio tracks from the output.
- Do not confuse multiple tracks in the source file with the stream YouTube receives: verify the encoded output.
YouTube reports an unsupported codec or sample rate
- Check the output codec rather than the source codec. For RTMP/RTMPS, use AAC or MP3; AAC is YouTube’s recommended audio codec.
- For stereo, try 44.1 kHz and verify the emitted sample rate.
- Compare the actual value and the exact message in Live Control Room before changing unrelated parameters.
YouTube reports bitrate or channel problems
- Check the encoded bitrate and channel count in the output.
- For the typical stereo baseline, use 128 Kbps and two channels.
- If the output has more than two channels, configure it for mono or stereo in line with the cited live-ingestion guidance.
The primary stream works but backup ingestion fails
- Compare the primary and backup audio codec, sample rate, channel layout and bitrate.
- Correct mismatches and verify each output independently.
What to capture if the error persists
Preserve the complete FFmpeg command with the stream key removed, the FFmpeg version, relevant log lines, input and output stream listings, and the exact YouTube health or error message. These details help distinguish a mapping mistake from an encoding mismatch or a broader ingest problem. Never share your stream key: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
YouTube’s cited live-ingestion requirements are platform-wide, not a separate India-specific audio profile. A location in India does not, on the evidence available here, identify the cause of an audio error; diagnose the received output and the exact platform warning.
