To switch live streaming service providers, set up and test your destination channel, move your encoder to the new service’s stream URL and key, preserve any archives you need, and tell viewers exactly where and when to find you. Treat it as a transition—not a channel transfer: do not assume followers, subscriptions, VODs, or channel history will move with you.
What changes—and what usually does not
A provider switch involves separate pieces: your account, the software that sends your video, your content archive, and the ways viewers find and support you. The destination service has its own channel and tools. The official materials discussed here do not document a general way to transfer followers, subscriptions, or channel history between platforms.
Before choosing a date, compare the destination’s audience discovery, moderation, VOD and clip handling, monetization eligibility, content policies, stream requirements, accessibility, and support against what you need. Check both services’ current terms, plus any partner, exclusivity, or sponsorship agreements that apply to your account. Do not assume simulcasting or directing viewers elsewhere is permitted in your specific circumstances.
Prepare the destination before announcing the move
Confirm access and eligibility
Make sure you can create or use the destination channel and that it is eligible to go live. YouTube’s current help guidance requires channel verification and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days; it also sets a minimum age of 16. Eligibility rules can change, so check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance before scheduling. Other services have their own requirements.

Inventory the pieces you will need to recreate
List your VODs and clips, channel description and panels, emotes, overlays, alerts, chat rules, moderator contacts, links, scheduled events, and third-party integrations. This is a planning list, not a promise that these items are portable. Note what must be rebuilt on the destination and who can help with moderation during the changeover.
Choose a transition date and fallback
Pick a first-stream date that leaves time to configure and test the destination. Have a way to reach viewers outside the old platform, retain a backup of your new encoder configuration, and prepare a short message saying where the broadcast will resume if setup fails.
Preserve VODs and other content you care about
- Use the old provider’s current tools to download or export important archives where available and permitted. Save local recordings when you have them and are allowed to keep them.
- Open a sample exported file and check that it plays before relying on a bulk export. Keep source files and useful metadata separately where practical.
- Check the destination’s upload options and confirm that reposting complies with rights, contracts, and both services’ content rules. A copy of a video does not necessarily include transferable rights to music or other material in it.
Kick says a stream VOD is saved to the channel page after the broadcast ends. Twitch’s help search excerpt describes past broadcasts and an Export option for uploading videos to YouTube after linking accounts; verify the current workflow in your Twitch account before depending on it. These are service-specific features, not evidence that every archive—or its chat, comments, timestamps, and metadata—can be moved.

Update the encoder with the destination’s stream details
A stream key is a credential: it tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets the platform accept it. YouTube describes its stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Never show a key in a screenshot or share it in chat. If it is exposed, reset it through the service and replace it in your encoder.

Find its live dashboard and copy the stream URL or server address and stream key. Confirm the title, category, privacy, schedule, and latency settings there.
- Change the encoder’s service configuration. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select the destination service if it is listed, or use its custom-service option when needed. Paste the destination’s server URL and key, then apply the change. Kick’s guide specifically describes OBS > Settings > Stream > “Custom…” and pasting its Stream URL and Key.
- Review output settings against the destination’s current guidance. Check resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe settings in the encoder and ensure they meet the platform’s requirements and fit your available upload capacity. Kick advises keeping bitrate within maximum upload speed; its published limits may change, so check the dashboard or current guide rather than assuming a fixed value.
- Reset credentials in both places if you rotate a key. YouTube says an owner or manager can reset a stream key in Live Control Room; the replacement key must also be copied into the encoder. Kick likewise says to update the encoder after resetting its key.
YouTube’s “Reuse settings” copies metadata, settings, and a stream key from a previous YouTube stream. It is not a cross-provider migration feature. Treat the new service’s credentials as a new destination configuration.
Test the new setup before the public move
Use a private, unlisted, or otherwise low-risk test if the destination supports one. Confirm each part of the production chain rather than only checking that the encoder says it is connected.

- Check picture, audio levels, sync, and the output format you intend to use.
- Confirm chat, alerts, overlays, and moderation access work on the destination.
- Check the stream’s title, category, privacy, and schedule, and verify whether a VOD is created as expected.
- Test both horizontal and vertical outputs if your setup uses both.
- Make sure moderators know where to meet you and how to contact you if something breaks.
Fix problems in the test, not in the first public broadcast. Keep the old setup available until the destination is ready, and make sure your fallback message can be posted somewhere viewers can still see it.
Tell viewers where to find you
- Announce the move in advance on the old channel and on communication channels independent of it. Include the exact destination channel name or link, the first-stream date, and the time with its timezone.
- Repeat the notice near your final old-platform broadcast. Update profile text, panels, social profiles, community servers, overlays, and scheduled-event descriptions that you control.
- Set up the destination’s discovery tools. Publish a schedule or upcoming event if available. YouTube says a scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming, where viewers can choose “Notify me”; notifications and discovery work differently across services.
- Leave a pointer on the old profile if its features and rules allow it. Do not count on the old service to redirect followers or automatically carry over notifications.
Be precise about what viewers should do: follow or subscribe on the new service if they want its notifications, and use the destination link you provide. A familiar channel name or matching profile image does not itself transfer an audience.
Should you stream on both platforms during the transition?
Simulcasting may help people find the new channel, but permission and consequences depend on the service and your account agreements. Check current terms for both platforms and any partner or sponsorship commitments before turning it on.

Kick’s May 22, 2026 guide says multistreaming is available only to Kick Partner Program streamers. It requires enabling the Multistreaming toggle for other long-form platforms such as Twitch or YouTube and says payout is reduced by 50% for the duration of the multistream session. That is a Kick-specific condition, not a general rule for all services. Verify your current partner status and terms before relying on it.
