You can switch a 24/7 YouTube stream from Restream to Gyre, but treat it as setting up and verifying a new broadcast—not transferring an active encoder session. Prepare your prerecorded videos and playlist in Gyre, connect the correct YouTube channel, confirm that Gyre’s broadcast is playing as intended, and only then stop Restream. The documented workflows do not guarantee a seamless, interruption-free handoff.
What changes when you move from Restream to Gyre?
The services use different operating models. Restream’s documented encoder workflow sends a feed from streaming software to Restream, which can route it to enabled destinations. Gyre’s continuous-stream workflow uses prerecorded files uploaded to Gyre, arranged in a playlist, and broadcast after connecting a YouTube channel. In practical terms, this is a change in how the stream is produced—not an import of your existing Restream session or settings.
Restream can connect a YouTube channel or an existing YouTube event; Gyre’s product information describes connecting a channel and starting or scheduling a 24/7 stream. Gyre also describes creating broadcasts through YouTube API authorization. Verify the resulting event in YouTube Studio rather than assuming it will preserve the existing event or its settings. Restream’s encoder workflow, Restream’s existing-event workflow, Gyre, and Gyre’s YouTube API update describe these separate paths.
Switch in a controlled sequence
1. Record the existing YouTube setup
Before changing anything, note the exact channel and the current broadcast or event arrangement. Record the title, description, visibility, thumbnail, and any schedule or viewer-facing announcement you need to preserve. These details are useful for checking the new broadcast, but do not assume Gyre will import them automatically.

Treat the stream key as a credential. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not put one in screenshots, shared notes, or public messages. If it may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
2. Prepare and upload the source videos in Gyre
Gyre’s documented continuous workflow requires prerecorded video files uploaded to Gyre storage. Prepare the files, upload them, create a playlist, and put the videos in the intended order. Check that the files’ resolution and encoding suit the output you plan to send to YouTube. Gyre’s preparation guidance is available in its help center.
Check the playlist for missing files, unintended gaps, and the behavior you expect when it reaches the end. The available documentation supports a looping playlist workflow; do not assume a particular transition or playback detail without checking it in your account.

3. Connect the intended YouTube channel
In Gyre, connect the YouTube account for the channel you intend to broadcast on, then configure and start or schedule the stream using the controls available in your account. Confirm the channel identity during authorization. Gyre’s product page describes connecting the account and scheduling a 24/7 stream; its API update describes authorizing through YouTube and creating a broadcast. Interfaces and authorization behavior can change, so use the current Gyre controls and verify the result in YouTube Studio.

4. Verify Gyre before stopping Restream
Open YouTube Studio and check that the new broadcast is associated with the correct channel. Confirm its title, description, thumbnail, privacy setting, schedule, and playback. Watch the public or intended-viewer playback long enough to verify that the video and playlist are behaving as expected.
Do not stop the Restream output until the Gyre broadcast is visible and playing correctly. The documented workflows do not promise an automatic transfer of a live session or a no-interruption cutover. Plan for the possibility of a brief interruption while changing providers.

5. Stop the old output only after you identify it
Once Gyre is verified, identify which service is feeding the broadcast before stopping anything. Restream documents toggling destinations and connecting or disconnecting an existing YouTube event. If you are using an existing event, check that you are stopping the Restream feed and not ending the wrong broadcast. Follow Restream’s existing-event guidance for its workflow.
6. Set expectations for the archive
Restream’s current YouTube guide says YouTube has no stream-duration limit but archives only streams under 12 hours. For a continuous 24/7 broadcast, do not count on the whole run being available as one ordinary archived video. If you need complete recordings or separate VODs, plan those independently and check YouTube’s current behavior before relying on an archive.

There is no single setting that fits every uploaded video and stream. Restream’s current YouTube guide recommends H.264 video, 240p–2160p resolution, 3,000–40,000 Kbps depending on resolution and frame rate, up to 60 FPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval (maximum 4 seconds). Gyre’s preparation article gives narrower guidance for HD and Full HD. Treat these as platform and service recommendations for the chosen output, not as a guarantee that every file, account, or network condition will work.

Before going live, make sure the source files and configured output are compatible with the resolution and frame rate you intend to use. If you change resolution, frame rate, or encoding, verify playback in YouTube Studio before cutting over. Refer to Restream’s YouTube recommendations and Gyre’s file-preparation guidance for their respective recommendations.

Troubleshoot the cutover
Gyre is broadcasting on the wrong channel
Check the account authorized in Gyre and the channel shown for the event in YouTube Studio. Stop and correct the setup before disabling Restream. Do not rely on a remembered account name if you manage multiple channels.
The new event has different metadata or visibility
Compare the title, description, thumbnail, privacy, and schedule in YouTube Studio against the details you recorded before the move. Correct the event in the relevant controls before announcing it to viewers. Gyre’s API update describes transferring metadata parameters, but verify the actual event rather than assuming every field was applied as intended.

The playlist does not play as expected
Check that every intended source file was uploaded, that the playlist order is correct, and that the output is playing the expected video. Consult Gyre’s video-preparation guidance if a file is rejected or the output differs from what you prepared.
There is a gap or the old stream ended unexpectedly
The documented Restream and Gyre workflows do not guarantee an uninterrupted handoff. Keep the existing output running until Gyre is verified, and check YouTube Studio to determine which service is feeding the event before stopping or reconnecting anything. If the cutover has already interrupted playback, verify the active broadcast and restart or correct the intended provider through its own current controls.
The stream key may have been exposed
Reset it in YouTube Studio and update the service that should use it. YouTube treats the key as a password and address for the stream, so avoid sharing it or leaving it in public material. See YouTube Help.
Keep the broadcast compliant and useful to viewers
A 24/7 schedule does not change your responsibility for the material you broadcast. Use videos you have the rights to stream, and check YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization rules before building a long-running playlist. A successful technical cutover does not itself establish that the content is eligible for monetization or that it complies with platform policies.
