To stream to YouTube with a custom RTMP ingest URL, copy the Stream URL and stream key shown for your stream in YouTube Studio, then paste them into the matching destination and key fields in your encoder. Use the exact URL shown in Live Control Room—not a generic example—and choose RTMPS when your encoder supports it.
1. Find the stream URL and key in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open the Stream tab. Create a stream or select the scheduled stream you want to use.
- Check the stream’s title, visibility, and schedule before sending video. YouTube notes that privacy defaults can vary by age; you can change a stream’s privacy setting.
- Copy the value in Stream URL. This is the server or destination address your encoder needs.
- Copy the separate Stream key. This is the credential that lets your encoder send video to your channel.
If you use a YouTube destination preset in your encoder, select it and provide the key if prompted. Otherwise, paste the URL into the encoder’s server, destination, or RTMP server field and the key into its Stream Key field. YouTube’s instructions likewise say to enter the server URL and stream key into the encoder: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
2. Choose RTMPS when your encoder supports it
RTMPS is RTMP carried over TLS/SSL. YouTube recommends it because it encrypts the connection. In the Stream tab in Live Control Room, use the lock icon in the Stream URL field to reveal the RTMPS destination, then copy that exact value into an RTMPS-capable encoder. Do not assume the initially displayed URL uses RTMPS; retrieve the secure URL explicitly. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
The URL and key do different jobs: the URL identifies the ingest destination, while the key authorizes the encoder to send to your stream. Keep the key private; avoid sharing screenshots or logs that expose it. YouTube describes the key as a credential similar to a password and address. If it may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio under Create > Go Live > Stream, then replace the old key in your encoder. Only a channel owner or manager can reset a key. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
- UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
3. Set the encoder’s video and audio settings
Use the codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate your encoder can actually send, and make sure your upload connection can sustain the chosen bitrate. YouTube’s published settings cover H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio. Its recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so check the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrate table before configuring a specific format.
| Example format | YouTube-published H.264 bitrate guidance |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 60 fps | Minimum 6 Mbps; recommended 17 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | Minimum 5 Mbps; recommended 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | Minimum 3 Mbps; recommended 8 Mbps |
| Keyframe interval | Recommended 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Stereo audio | 128 Kbps recommended; AAC or MP3 |

4. Start the encoder, check preview, and go live
- Start streaming from the encoder after saving the destination URL, stream key, and settings.
- Wait for the incoming video preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check that picture and audio look and sound right, and review the stream health indicator or any warnings.
- For a scheduled stream, select Go live in Live Control Room once the preview is ready. Starting the encoder sends the feed; it does not by itself replace this scheduled-stream confirmation step.
- When finished, stop the stream through the YouTube workflow and stop the encoder as directed there. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
5. Troubleshoot connection and preview problems
- Encoder cannot connect: Recheck that the server field contains the exact Stream URL from the selected stream and that the stream key is in the separate key field. Check for accidental spaces or a stale key.
- RTMPS certificate or connection error: Confirm that you copied the RTMPS URL using the lock icon, that the encoder supports RTMPS, and that the protocol and host are correct. YouTube says port 443 may need to be specified. Its troubleshooting example uses an address shaped like
rtmps://…:443/…; this is only an illustration, not a URL to copy. Use the host and path shown for your stream. See YouTube’s RTMPS help. - Encoder connects but no preview appears: Confirm the encoder is actively sending, that it is configured for the selected stream, and that its destination and key match the values currently shown in Live Control Room. Check the encoder’s output and YouTube’s stream health messages.
- Video or audio is unstable: Compare the chosen bitrate with the current YouTube recommendation for that codec and format, and with the upload bandwidth available to the encoder. Lower the output demand if the connection cannot sustain it; keep CBR and the recommended keyframe interval in mind.
- The key may have leaked or no longer works: Reset it from the Stream tab in YouTube Studio and update the encoder. A reset invalidates the old credential.
Copyright and reused-content checks before streaming
A working ingest connection only confirms that video reaches YouTube; it does not establish that you have rights to stream the material or that the channel meets YouTube’s monetization requirements. For a documentary channel, verify the rights and permissions for the full recording, including footage, music, narration, and other third-party material. Replaying a recording as a live stream does not itself make it original or eligible for monetization. Review YouTube’s current policies in Studio and secure the necessary permissions before broadcasting.

If your goal is to keep an uploaded recording or playlist running on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo can run that feed from the cloud: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed, and it streams to YouTube only.
