Run an encoder locally
An encoder converts the video and audio feed into a format YouTube can receive. YouTube supports software encoders running on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. For a continuous local stream, the computer or hardware, playback source, power and internet connection must remain available; plan how you will notice and recover from a failure.
Use a cloud service
A cloud service can play uploaded lessons without relying on a computer left running at your location. YouTube’s verified encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming and CamStreamer as supporting continuous and scheduled streams. Those directory descriptions are not reliability tests and do not establish current pricing or availability.

Create the YouTube Live event and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule a stream in Live Control Room. If live streaming is newly enabled, allow for YouTube’s stated activation delay.
- Copy the stream connection details. In the stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key. If using RTMPS, reveal and copy the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room; your encoder must support RTMPS. Follow YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: it authorizes a feed to your channel. Do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Configure the encoder. Select the lesson file or playlist as the source, enter the server URL and stream key, and use the encoder’s supported stream settings. Confirm that the feed appears in YouTube’s live preview before starting the public broadcast.
- Test the whole chain. Check the preview, the public watch page, mobile playback, and both audio and video. Scheduling an event can help learners find it, but does not keep the content source or encoder running.
Plan bandwidth and monitoring for continuous playback
YouTube recommends available upload bandwidth at least 20% above the total stream bitrate. This is a platform recommendation, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. Ensure your connection has headroom for the selected feed and other network use, and monitor the stream rather than assuming that a successful start means it will stay healthy.
- Before going public, confirm the live preview and playback on the watch page and a mobile device.
- Check audio and picture during the broadcast; a frozen image, missing audio or dropped connection can make a technically live stream unusable.
- For a local encoder, account for power, internet, playback software and the person or process responsible for restarting it. For a cloud service, check its file compatibility, monitoring and recovery behavior, terms and current availability.
YouTube’s documentation does not promise end-to-end uptime for a particular computer, network or cloud provider. Continuous operation depends on the whole path from lesson playback to YouTube.

Clear textbook and media rights before streaming
Balbharati says textbooks can be downloaded as PDFs free of cost, but free access to a file is not the same as permission to reproduce, display, adapt, record or stream its contents. Its licensing information describes terms for use of physical and digital textbook content, including adaptations and multimedia educational material, and says unauthorized entities may not reproduce its content. Check the current terms for the exact materials, use, territory and monetization plan; also distinguish Balbharati content from third-party material included in a lesson.
YouTube’s live-stream terms require providers to have the rights needed to exploit live content on Google services and to comply with applicable laws. Check not only the spoken teaching but also textbook pages, illustrations, photographs, music, clips and other incorporated works.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may replace the stream with a placeholder, and continued use can interrupt or terminate it. Even when you hold a license, a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the material to play uninterrupted. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

A mini PC can serve as the computer for a software encoder, but there is no single minimum specification established here. Before buying equipment, check the chosen encoder’s requirements and whether it can play your files while sending the intended stream. YouTube’s encoder directory lists software and standalone hardware options, not a universally suitable model.

Troubleshoot common failures
You cannot start a live stream
Confirm the channel is verified, meets YouTube’s age requirement, and has no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is the first enablement, activation may take up to 24 hours.

YouTube does not receive the encoder feed
Check that you copied the correct server URL and stream key from the intended event, that the key has not been changed, and that the encoder supports the selected connection type, including RTMPS if used. Replace an exposed key and update the encoder.
The preview buffers or drops
Check that available upload bandwidth exceeds the total stream bitrate with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Inspect the local connection and encoder, or the cloud provider’s status and recovery guidance. Do not treat a scheduled event as a playback system: the source and encoder still need to send the feed.
Video plays but the audio or picture is wrong
Test the exact playlist and inspect both audio and video in preview and on the watch page, including on mobile. Confirm the selected files play correctly in the source and that the encoder is sending the intended feed.
The stream is interrupted for a copyright match
Identify the matched material and confirm that your permission covers livestreaming on YouTube. Where material is licensed, ask the rights holder whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID. Do not assume a freely downloadable PDF or a license for one use covers every element and use in a lesson.
