You can keep prerecorded lessons running as a YouTube livestream without leaving your computer on by using a cloud-hosted streaming service: upload the videos, connect the service to YouTube with your stream key, and start or schedule playback. A standalone encoder such as the AJA HELO Plus is another option. This is a prerecorded feed delivered as a livestream, not a live teaching session.
Choose how the lessons will play
For a continuous lesson channel, playback and encoding must happen somewhere other than the computer you want to switch off. YouTube’s encoder directory lists cloud-based tools for continuous prerecorded streaming, including Gyre and Upstream. Upstream describes running uploaded videos continuously while your computer is off. YouTube also lists the AJA HELO Plus, whose PlayToStream feature schedules prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer.

For any provider, compare duration and restart controls, how lessons are stored and sequenced, monitoring needs, and the plan or hardware cost. Check YouTube eligibility before setting up
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If this is the channel’s first livestream, enabling live streaming can take up to 24 hours. Set up a continuous lesson stream
- Prepare the lesson files. Choose the recordings, confirm they play correctly, and decide the sequence. Upload them to your chosen cloud service or select them from a supported library or cloud-storage source. OneStream Live documents those source choices for its 24/7 feature; exact choices differ by service.
- Create or schedule the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling can help promote the event and lets viewers set reminders. Follow YouTube’s instructions for scheduling a livestream.
- Connect the service to YouTube. Provide the YouTube Live server URL and stream key where the streaming service requests them. Treat the key like a password: do not expose it in a public screenshot, document, or chat. YouTube explains encoder setup in its live encoder guidance.
- Set the duration and start playback. Choose a run length within the provider’s limits, then start or schedule the playback. If lessons are meant to repeat, verify that the selected service supports looping or playlists and that the sequence is correct.
- Check the preview and audio. For a scheduled encoder stream, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then click “Go live” when ready. Check that the right lesson is playing and that sound and picture are present. YouTube recommends monitoring encoder stream quality; a test stream is prudent before relying on a lesson schedule. Plan the replay separately from continuous playback
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not guarantee a complete archive for a single uninterrupted broadcast longer than that. If students need replays, do not assume a 24/7 stream will produce one complete recording: check current YouTube guidance and whether your provider can segment or restart the broadcast. Continuous playback and a dependable lesson archive are separate requirements.
Protect the lesson channel and its viewers
- Use recordings you own or have permission to stream, including music, slides, and other material embedded in a lesson. A livestream does not remove copyright obligations.
- Review YouTube’s current policies and audience settings when creating the event. Set the audience and privacy choices to match the material and intended viewers.
- Test a representative lesson before announcing a schedule. Confirm the right file, sequence, audio, preview, and stream connection rather than assuming upload success means the broadcast is correct.
- Keep the stream key private. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the connected streaming service.
