You can loop podcast episodes into a YouTube Live broadcast with OBS by connecting OBS to a YouTube encoder stream and playing local files through a Media Source or VLC Video playlist. The setup requires an eligible YouTube channel, a reliable upload connection and ongoing monitoring; neither OBS nor a local internet connection guarantees uninterrupted 24/7 service.
Before you start: make sure your channel can go live
- Your YouTube channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days and meet YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16.
- Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio in advance. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- Install OBS on the computer that will run the broadcast and keep the podcast files accessible on that computer.
- If you plan to use OBS’s VLC Video source, install VLC as well. OBS documents that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
See YouTube’s encoder setup guide for eligibility and live-stream setup details, and the OBS Media Sources reference for source behavior.
How to set up a 24/7 YouTube podcast stream with OBS
1. Prepare and organize the episodes
Put the episode recordings in a folder the streaming computer can access. Decide whether to repeat one episode or rotate through a playlist. Check that you have the rights needed for the audio, music, video, artwork and clips in every file; looping does not change the licensing requirements.
2. Create the encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule a stream using the encoder workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your channel.
3. Connect OBS to YouTube
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream.
- Select YouTube as the service, then enter the stream key. If your OBS setup asks for a server or stream URL, use the URL supplied in YouTube Studio.
- Apply the settings and return to the main OBS window.
YouTube’s encoder workflow may require you to start the encoder output in OBS and then confirm the broadcast with the Live Control Room’s Go live control. Check the preview and the controls shown for your stream rather than assuming that starting OBS alone makes the event public.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
4. Add one episode or a looping playlist
For one recording, add an OBS Media Source to the scene, browse to the file and enable Loop in its properties. OBS describes this setting as making the file play again when playback completes.
For several episodes, add a VLC Video source, create a playlist from the episode files and enable Loop Playlist. This lets the episodes play in sequence and repeat. Keep the source in the active scene; if it is removed, hidden or otherwise inactive, it will not supply the program feed.
5. Check the picture and sound before going live
In OBS, confirm that the selected source is visible, the video is framed as intended and the audio meters move when an episode plays. Listen to the output, not just the meters, to catch silence, clipping or the wrong audio device. Then inspect YouTube’s preview and confirm the event is reachable before starting the public broadcast.

Settings and network planning for a continuous broadcast
Choose output settings your connection can sustain
There is no single bitrate that fits every resolution and frame rate. Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for the format you select, then check that the total outgoing bitrate stays within your measured upload capacity. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; that matters when other devices share the connection or the available speed fluctuates. Download speed is not a substitute for an upload-speed check.
Test the complete setup before the scheduled start. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event. A wired Ethernet connection can be a practical choice for a fixed streaming computer, but it does not prevent power or internet outages.
Monitor the stream, not just the OBS window
Keep an eye on the OBS output and YouTube Live Control Room. For an always-on playlist, check that the episode has not stopped, that the stream remains connected, and that both audio and video are present. Also consider what happens if the computer loses power, the internet drops or the playlist reaches its end. OBS’s ability to play a loop is not a documented guarantee that it will recover from every interruption or restart itself after a failure.

Plan the replay separately from the live broadcast
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one continuous 24-hour broadcast will become a complete replay. If full replays matter, divide the programming into shorter broadcasts and check the channel’s current archive controls before publishing. That creates more start-and-stop work, but it aligns the broadcast plan with YouTube’s stated automatic-archive rule.
Copyright and India-specific considerations
Use only material you own or are authorized to stream and archive. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party matches; a match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream, and continued use can interrupt or terminate it. Archived live streams may also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast.
Recommended Free Tools
A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption on its own: YouTube says a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm that any permission covers the intended live use, the relevant territories and the archive, and resolve allowlisting with the rights holder where applicable. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams explains its matching process.

YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for exploitation of the live content, including music licensing rights, and to meet requirements applicable in the territory of the stream. The Government of India’s Copyright Act text includes provisions concerning broadcasting-organisation rights, but that text alone does not determine which permissions a particular YouTube podcast stream needs. Check the rights for each recording and get qualified Indian legal advice for a fact-specific question; do not assume a broadcast-related statutory route automatically covers YouTube streaming.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not accept the stream: Confirm live streaming has been enabled, the channel is eligible, and OBS has the correct stream key and URL for the intended event. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- The YouTube preview is blank: Check that the episode source is visible in the active OBS scene and that the file path is still valid. Verify playback in OBS before checking the Live Control Room preview again.
- The stream buffers or disconnects: Measure upload capacity, reduce the outgoing bitrate if needed, leave the recommended headroom and account for other network users. Check whether the computer or router lost connectivity.
- The playlist stops after one pass: Reopen the VLC Video source properties and verify that the playlist is populated and Loop Playlist is enabled. For a single Media Source, check its Loop setting.
- There is no sound or the audio is wrong: Confirm the source has audio, the correct output device is selected and OBS’s audio meters respond. Monitor the live preview with sound before leaving the stream unattended.
- The stream is interrupted despite having permission: Check YouTube Studio for a copyright notice and ask the rights holder whether your channel needs Content ID allowlisting.
- The full-day replay is missing or incomplete: A broadcast lasting 12 hours or more is outside YouTube’s stated automatic-archive rule for streams under 12 hours. Use shorter broadcasts if complete automatic replays are essential.
