How to Stream Monsoon Rain Sounds 24/7 on YouTube

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To stream monsoon rain sounds around the clock, create a YouTube livestream, send it an audio-and-visual feed from an encoder, and keep that encoder running. You can run the encoder on a computer or use a cloud service. Before you start, make sure you have worldwide rights to the rain recording and plan for YouTube’s limits on saving and rewinding very long streams.

What you need for a 24/7 rain stream

  • A rain recording you made or have permission to stream worldwide.
  • A visual feed to accompany the audio, such as a still image or video that you have the rights to use.
  • An encoder: software running on a computer or standalone hardware. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not specify a required computer configuration.
  • A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled, plus the stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room.
  • A plan for keeping the encoder, internet connection, and power available, and for handling interruptions.

YouTube says that enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Enable it well before the planned launch. Its encoder workflow is documented at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Set up the stream with an encoder

  1. Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and complete any required live-streaming activation. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
  2. Create or schedule a stream. In Live Control Room, create a new stream or schedule one. Scheduled streams can appear as upcoming to subscribers. YouTube also lets you reuse stream details and keys; check the settings before reusing them.
  3. Copy the connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s live-stream settings before using it again.
  4. Prepare the feed. Set the encoder to play your rain audio and provide the visual feed. Confirm that both are present in its output. YouTube’s cited setup guidance does not prescribe a particular resolution, bitrate, or computer specification for this use case; follow the encoder’s and YouTube’s current on-screen guidance for the selected stream settings.
  5. Start the encoder and check the preview. Start sending the feed, then wait for the preview in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, click Go live after the preview is ready.
  6. Monitor the operation. For continuous broadcasting, decide in advance how you will respond to an encoder restart, internet or power outage, or a stream interruption. These precautions can help with recovery, but no setup can guarantee uninterrupted service.

Choose a way to keep it running

Run an encoder on your own computer

A local computer running encoder software is a supported approach. You control the files and encoder, and you can keep a local recording for your own archive. The trade-off is that the computer, power, internet connection, and encoder must remain available for the stream to continue. YouTube’s guidance does not require a dedicated mini PC or specify minimum CPU, RAM, storage, or network requirements.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, without leaving a computer running at home. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded material; it does not broadcast a camera feed.

If you use someone else’s recording, get written permission that specifically covers worldwide YouTube livestreaming and any replay you intend to keep. Keep your original project files, recording metadata, and permission documents. These records support your position but do not prevent every claim.

YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the matched content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A license does not necessarily prevent automated matching. For licensed third-party material, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. An archived livestream may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. See Copyright issues with live streams.

A label such as “royalty-free” or a general license is not, by itself, proof that the exact recording is cleared for a worldwide live broadcast and replay. YouTube Creator Music’s licensed and revenue-sharing tracks are not available for livestreams, so they are not a licensing shortcut for a continuous rain broadcast.

Plan for archives and viewer rewind

YouTube warns that livestreams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its DVR guidance also says rewind may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. That means a 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as a reliable way to publish a full-day replay or provide a full day of rewind. Read Archive live streams and Turn on DVR on live streams.

If you need an archive, keep a local recording; YouTube recommends local recording for this purpose. Ending and restarting the stream before it passes 12 hours is a practical way to create shorter sessions, but it is not a guarantee that YouTube will archive them. Tell viewers that the live player may not offer a full day of rewind.

Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policies cover livestreams and can exclude repetitive or mass-produced material under the inauthentic-content policy; its reused-content policy is separate from copyright. A license to play a rain recording therefore does not establish that a channel will qualify for monetization. Make the production meaningfully original and distinguish your work from reused recordings, without assuming approval. YouTube’s policy page was updated July 15, 2025: YouTube channel monetization policies.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely issue What to do
Live Control Room does not show an incoming preview Live streaming may not be activated yet, or the encoder may have the wrong server URL or stream key. Allow up to 24 hours after first-time activation. Check the URL and key against the current stream in Live Control Room, then restart the encoder feed.
The stream starts but is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder YouTube may have detected third-party content in the audio or visual feed. Check YouTube’s copyright notice and the recording’s rights. For material you licensed, ask the owner about adding your channel to the Content ID allowlist.
The livestream ends unexpectedly The encoder, power, or internet connection may have stopped sending the feed, or YouTube may have interrupted it. Check the encoder and connection, inspect Live Control Room for notices, and restart the feed using the current stream settings. Plan for outages rather than assuming a 24/7 setup cannot fail.
No full replay or day-long rewind is available The stream exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive or DVR limit. Keep a local recording if you need an archive. Consider shorter sessions, while recognizing that segmenting is not an archive guarantee.
A stream key may have been exposed Someone else could use the key to send a feed to the stream. Reset the key in YouTube’s live-stream settings and replace it in your encoder before broadcasting again.
