For a stable setup, use YouTube’s recommended RTMPS connection, size the stream for the upload bandwidth you can sustain, confirm music rights before going live, and plan for monitoring and recovery. A continuous broadcast is possible; uninterrupted service and a complete 24-hour replay are not guaranteed.
Clear the music rights before building the stream
Treat rights clearance as the first operational gate. Indian music can involve separate rights in the composition and the particular sound recording. Confirm that your permissions cover the tracks you plan to use, live streaming on YouTube, the relevant territories, and continuous use. Owning a copy of a song, or having access to it through a consumer streaming service, does not by itself establish permission to retransmit it.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including other broadcasts. If it detects such content, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using it; if the content remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. A license alone may not prevent that interruption: YouTube says licensed creators should ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
YouTube for Artists advises: “If you’re planning on using copyright-protected music during your live stream, we recommend coordinating with your label or distributor to avoid any issues, such as copyright strikes.” Discuss both the permissions and any Content ID allowlisting with the appropriate label, distributor, publisher, or recording owner before launch. The guidance is at YouTube for Artists’ Going Live for Music Channels.

Check that your channel can go live
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. For music channels, YouTube for Artists advises enabling live streaming by verifying at least 24 hours before the planned start. Check eligibility and enable the feature in advance rather than discovering a restriction at launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance and YouTube for Artists.
Set up a continuous RTMPS broadcast
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder flow to obtain the stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: it is a credential that lets an encoder send video to your broadcast.
- Choose RTMPS in your encoder. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which sends RTMP over an encrypted TLS/SSL connection. Use the RTMPS URL and ingestion details supplied for the broadcast; do not substitute a guessed host or path. Google’s developer guide specifies an RTMPS protocol URL and port 443 for its ingestion endpoint. If your encoder offers an RTMPS preset, use it. See YouTube’s encoder settings and Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.
- Enter the connection details. Paste the stream URL and key into the encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP/RTMPS connection fields, then select the intended video and audio sources. Avoid sharing screenshots or logs that expose the key.
- Choose settings your connection can sustain. Set the output format, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate before starting. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Its H.264 examples include 6 Mbps for 720p60, 10 Mbps for 1080p30, and 12 Mbps for 1080p60. Treat these as encoder recommendations, not a promise that your particular connection can sustain them.
- Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends available upload capacity that is 20% greater than the total outgoing bitrate. That total includes both primary and backup feeds if you send them. Test the actual connection at the location and time you intend to stream; other people and devices on a shared network can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder.
- Start a test stream and check its health. Use an unlisted test to verify the audio, video, preview, and Live Control Room health messages before the public launch. Confirm that the encoder is sending to the intended broadcast and that the key has not been exposed.
YouTube’s API documentation describes a channel broadcasting a 24/7 live feed, so a continuous broadcast is a supported platform use case—not a guarantee of uptime. The encoder, its power, and the network path still need to operate, and someone needs a way to notice and respond to problems. See Google’s explanation of broadcasts and streams.

Plan for disconnects and recovery
A stable stream is a system, not just a bitrate setting. If the encoder stops, power fails, or the network drops, the outgoing feed can be interrupted. YouTube advises testing backup-encoder rollover by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable, then checking whether the player moves to the backup. Run that test before depending on failover; it does not prove that every backup design will work.
- Use a measured, sustainable bitrate with the recommended upload headroom rather than selecting settings by resolution alone.
- Where practical, use a reliable wired connection between a nearby encoder and router; Ethernet is a practical option, not a guaranteed fix for dropouts.
- If the stream needs a backup encoder or a second internet route, test the switchover under realistic conditions.
- Decide who will monitor the Live Control Room and respond to an encoder failure, network interruption, or rights warning. YouTube recommends continuous monitoring; assigning an operator or alert process is a practical way to do it.
Keep a separate plan for recordings and replays
A 24-hour broadcast is not a reliable way to create one complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a replay, make a local recording and plan how to preserve or divide the material rather than relying on the YouTube archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Google’s API documentation describes an API-oriented example in which a 24/7 broadcast remains live while a separate, shorter broadcast is also bound to the same incoming stream. That example illustrates an API use case; it is not a general setup guarantee for every channel or encoder.
Launch checklist
- Confirm channel eligibility and enable live streaming in advance.
- Get permission for the composition and recording, live use, territories, and intended duration; discuss Content ID allowlisting with the rights owner or distributor.
- Create or schedule the broadcast, configure RTMPS, and keep the stream key private.
- Test upload capacity and leave 20% headroom above total output bitrate, including any backup feed.
- Run an unlisted test, check stream health, and test the backup path if you rely on one.
- Arrange local recording if you need a complete replay, and decide who will monitor the broadcast.
Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The encoder cannot connect or reports an SSL error or timeout. | The endpoint may be wrong, may not be RTMPS, or may not be supported by the encoder. | Copy the RTMPS URL and connection details from YouTube’s Live Control Room; verify the host and port 443 requirements in the RTMPS ingestion guide. |
| The stream health warning indicates unstable delivery or the broadcast drops. | The bitrate may exceed the upload capacity available to the encoder, or capacity may fluctuate on a shared connection. | Measure upload speed at the streaming location, reduce output bitrate if needed, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Include any backup stream in the total. |
| The live preview is blank or the stream does not appear on the intended broadcast. | The encoder may be using the wrong stream key or broadcast connection details. | Compare the encoder’s URL and key with the current Live Control Room details. If needed, replace the values with the ones for the intended broadcast and test again. |
| YouTube warns about third-party content or interrupts the feed. | A track or recording may have matched copyrighted content, or the channel may not be allowlisted by the rights owner. | Stop using the flagged material and contact the rights owner or distributor about permissions and Content ID allowlisting. See YouTube’s copyright guidance. |
| The 24-hour stream has no complete replay. | YouTube may not capture a stream that exceeds 12 hours. | Use a separate local recording and a preservation plan if the replay matters. |
