You can stream Hindi bhajan videos continuously by running FFmpeg on an always-on Linux VPS, looping rights-cleared media, and sending it to YouTube Live over RTMPS. YouTube provides the ingest URL and stream key; FFmpeg handles playback and encoding. The key decisions are whether your files can be sent without re-encoding, how to keep the process monitored, and whether you need one long live session or shorter sessions that YouTube can archive.
What you need before starting
- An always-on Linux VPS with enough CPU, network capacity, and transfer allowance for your chosen media and encoding settings. There is no single VPS size established as suitable for every stream; check the provider’s current terms and test your workload.
- FFmpeg installed on the VPS and a local media file that plays correctly. Check its video and audio codecs, frame rate, pixel format, and whether it has an audio track before choosing stream-copy or encoding settings.
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Permission to livestream each recording, including the music and video rights that apply to it.
A VPS is an operational choice, not a YouTube requirement. You could also run FFmpeg on a personal computer, but then that machine, its internet connection, and power must remain available for the broadcast.
Prepare YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Create > Go live to reach Live Control Room. Create or select the stream you intend to use.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Use those supplied values rather than guessing an ingest address. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, commit it to a public repository, or share it unnecessarily.
- Prefer RTMPS when configuring the encoder. YouTube recommends RTMPS; it uses RTMP over SSL on port 443. The endpoint and path must come from YouTube’s Live Control Room. See YouTube’s encoder settings and its RTMPS guidance.
- Start a test broadcast and confirm that Live Control Room receives a preview and reports healthy stream status before relying on the setup. Test with representative motion and audio, not just a static or silent clip.
Choose compatible video and encoding settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264 as a supported video codec, calls for constant bitrate (CBR) encoding, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Choose a video bitrate from YouTube’s table for your resolution and frame rate; for example, YouTube recommends 2 Mbps video bitrate for 720p at 30 fps. Audio bandwidth is additional, and that video recommendation is not a VPS bandwidth target. Leave network headroom and test the actual connection. YouTube transcodes incoming streams for viewers on different devices and network conditions.
Use the full YouTube encoder settings table for your selected resolution and frame rate. Do not assume a file’s existing bitrate or codec is suitable just because it plays locally.

Stream-copy or transcode?
- Stream-copy: avoids re-encoding when the file’s video and audio streams, container, timestamps, and output compatibility meet YouTube’s requirements. It uses less CPU, but it does not fix an unsuitable codec, bitrate, keyframe cadence, or missing audio.
- Transcode: converts media to a known output format and lets you set parameters such as codec, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval. It needs more CPU, so confirm that the VPS can sustain the encode without dropped frames.
There is no universally valid FFmpeg command for every file and VPS. Inspect the actual media and test the chosen mode before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
Loop the video with FFmpeg
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 for infinitely looping an input. The -re option reads input at its native frame rate and is useful when streaming a file because it paces output rather than sending the file as fast as possible. Place input options before the relevant -i. The following is a command pattern, not a copy-and-run command: you must supply YouTube’s actual RTMPS URL and key, and choose compatible output handling for your media.

ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -re -i /path/to/bhajan-video.mp4 [compatible copy or encoding options] -f flv "[YouTube RTMPS URL and path]/[STREAM_KEY]"
For example, the pattern shows the looping and pacing options, but the bracketed parts are not literal FFmpeg arguments. Consult the FFmpeg documentation for option behavior and verify the output protocol and encoding flags against the installed FFmpeg build and YouTube’s current guidance. Keep the key out of shell history and process listings where practical; a protected configuration file or secret-handling method is safer than sharing a command containing the credential.
Keep the VPS stream running and observable
A terminal command alone does not make a resilient 24/7 service. Configure a process supervisor or system service to start FFmpeg after reboot and restart it if it exits; retain logs and check them for repeated reconnects, encoder errors, or input failures. These are operational safeguards, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.

- Monitor Live Control Room for stream health and confirm that the preview remains active.
- Check VPS disk space, network usage, CPU load, and provider transfer limits. A looping file may not consume much disk after upload, but logs and system updates still need room.
- Use a restart policy carefully. If YouTube or the network is temporarily unavailable, repeated retries may help, but verify that FFmpeg can reconnect with your installed build and chosen output configuration.
- Keep a copy of the original file and document the stream configuration without exposing the key. Test recovery after a process restart before depending on it.
Protect bhajan recordings and comply with YouTube rules
Bhajan subject matter does not make a recording free to reuse. A composition, a particular sound recording, a performance, and accompanying visuals can have different rights holders. Obtain the permissions or licenses needed for the actual material and the territories where it will be streamed; legal exceptions vary by jurisdiction and circumstances.
YouTube’s live-stream terms say: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the YouTube Terms of Service and the applicable music-rights terms before broadcasting.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A placeholder can replace a stream, and continued use can lead to interruption or termination. A license may not be enough to prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. If you archive a stream, a Content ID claim may be made after it ends. See YouTube’s guidance on live-stream copyright and Content ID claims.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Decide whether you need one continuous archive
A continuous live output is not the same thing as one complete archived video. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that condition does not promise a single complete archive for a 24-hour broadcast. If an archive matters, plan shorter broadcasts and verify the current behavior in YouTube Studio before scheduling them. See YouTube’s encoder setup and archiving guidance.

Troubleshoot common failures
YouTube does not show a preview
- Confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel; first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Check that the server URL and stream key match the stream selected in Live Control Room, and that the output uses the actual RTMPS endpoint YouTube supplied.
- Review FFmpeg logs for authentication, connection, protocol, or input errors, then test again with a short representative clip.
The stream starts but drops or reports poor health
- Check VPS CPU load if transcoding, and reduce the encode workload or use stream-copy only if the media is already compatible.
- Compare the selected video bitrate with YouTube’s recommendation for the chosen resolution and frame rate. Audio adds to total traffic; test sustained upload capacity with headroom.
- Inspect provider network and transfer constraints, and check logs for reconnects or packet/encoding errors.
Video or audio is missing or incompatible
- Inspect the source file to confirm it contains the expected video and audio streams.
- Check codec, pixel format, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval. Stream-copy preserves source properties; it does not repair them.
- If necessary, transcode to a supported configuration and test that the VPS can encode it continuously.
The stream ends or fails to resume after reboot
- Confirm that the process supervisor starts the correct command after reboot, that the media path is mounted and readable, and that sufficient disk space remains for logs.
- Review supervisor and FFmpeg logs for the specific failure; verify the restart policy and test recovery rather than assuming a restart will reconnect successfully.
The live stream is interrupted for a rights match
Stop and resolve the underlying rights issue rather than repeatedly restarting the same material. Confirm that the licenses cover livestream use and that any needed allowlisting has been completed by the rights holder.
Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining a VPS, FFmpeg process, and recovery setup is more work than you want, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream running from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
