To stream a prerecorded video stored in a cloud bucket to YouTube Live, an encoder must read the video and send it to YouTube’s live ingest endpoint. The bucket stores the file; it does not create or publish a live broadcast by itself. YouTube Live Control Room provides the stream URL and key that the encoder needs.
The three parts of the workflow
- Source: The prerecorded media object in cloud storage. The encoder needs a supported way to access it, using the storage provider’s access method and credentials.
- Encoder: Software or a service that reads the video and sends a live output. FFmpeg is one documented software option.
- Destination: The YouTube stream configured in Live Control Room, including its ingest URL and stream key.
The exact command for reading a private bucket object depends on the storage provider, access controls, credentials, and media format. The sources cited here do not establish a universal private-object URL or authentication pattern, so do not assume that a bucket URL will work directly in every encoder.
Prepare the YouTube stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or select one you have scheduled.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into your encoder’s output settings. Treat the stream key as a secret: anyone who has it may be able to send content to your stream.
- Choose an ingest protocol supported by both the YouTube stream configuration and your encoder. YouTube documents RTMPS ingest addresses. HLS is also available for use cases such as HDR or codecs that RTMP does not support, but it uses video segments and has higher latency than RTMP. The protocols are not interchangeable in every encoder setup.
- Start the encoder. YouTube says that starting it creates the watch page and begins the live feed. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, check that the picture and sound are correct, then select Go live.
YouTube’s LiveStreams API reference lists supported resolution values from 240p through 2160p, as well as a variable option. Set resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval according to YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for the selected protocol and stream configuration; a single setting cannot be prescribed safely without knowing those choices.
Make the bucket object available to the encoder
- Identify the storage provider and determine how its object can be read by your chosen encoder. For a private object, configure the provider’s supported access method and credentials on the machine or service running the encoder.
- Confirm that the encoder can read the object for the entire broadcast, not just access a file listing or a short-lived link. Check any expiry, permission, or network restrictions that could interrupt playback.
- Check that the file’s container and audio/video codecs are accepted by the encoder and suitable for the YouTube ingest configuration. The cited documentation does not specify a universal input format for this bucket-to-YouTube workflow.
- Test playback and audio before sending the stream to the scheduled broadcast. Keep the encoder’s logs available so that storage-access errors can be distinguished from YouTube ingest errors.
FFmpeg is a software encoder example documented in Google Cloud’s live-streaming materials, including a test signal sent to a Google Cloud input endpoint. That example demonstrates FFmpeg as an encoder; it is not a provider-neutral command for fetching a private prerecorded object and publishing it to YouTube. Verify the object retrieval method, authentication, input format, and output settings for your own provider and encoder before relying on a command.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose where the encoder runs
Run it on a local computer
A local encoder can read the object after you configure access and send it to YouTube. The computer and network connection must remain available while the broadcast is running. This can suit a one-time event when you can supervise playback and recover from interruptions.
Run it on cloud compute
A cloud-hosted encoder can be considered for unattended or scheduled operation, but you must verify compute availability and cost, permissions, object retrieval, restart behavior, and how the process will be monitored. Cloud hosting alone does not guarantee that a stream will recover or that a private object will be accessible.

Do not confuse storage output with YouTube publishing
Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is documented as a managed live-processing service: it accepts live RTMP or SRT input, transcodes that input to HLS or DASH, and saves resulting outputs in Cloud Storage. Its documented flow is not a direct operation that takes a prerecorded bucket object and publishes it to YouTube Live. A bucket containing a video, or HLS output saved to a bucket, is not by itself a YouTube broadcast.
End the stream and account for the archive
When the video is finished, stop sending content from the encoder and end the stream in Live Control Room as appropriate for the event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on that rule for a longer broadcast; plan separately for recording and preservation if the stream may exceed that duration.

Troubleshoot common failures
- The encoder cannot open the video: Check the object path, permissions, credential configuration, network access, and any expiry on a signed or temporary link. The required fix depends on your storage provider.
- YouTube does not receive a signal: Confirm that the encoder is using the URL and key for the intended stream, that the key was copied correctly, and that the selected protocol is supported by the encoder and stream configuration.
- The preview is blank or has no sound: Check that the encoder is actually decoding the source file, that its audio and video tracks are present, and that the output format and settings match the chosen YouTube ingest configuration.
- The stream stops unexpectedly: Look for encoder errors, lost network connectivity, expired object access, or a process or compute instance that stopped. Cloud hosting requires a deliberate restart and monitoring plan; it does not supply those automatically.
- The stream has more delay than expected: If using HLS, account for its segment-based delivery and higher latency relative to RTMP. Use only an ingest protocol supported by the selected encoder and stream configuration.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Before broadcasting a prerecorded documentary, confirm that you have the rights or permissions needed for its footage, music, narration, and any other included material. A live format does not remove copyright obligations. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming and monetization policies for your channel and content; this workflow guide does not determine whether a particular video is eligible for monetization or complies with those policies.
