You can use an NGINX-based RTMP relay as part of a Telugu devotional YouTube broadcast, but only if your chosen build can publish securely to YouTube over RTMPS. The relay is not the playlist player, and not every nginx-rtmp-module build supports the TLS publishing YouTube requires. Confirm that capability before setting up a continuous stream; do not treat plain RTMP as an equivalent substitute.
What you need before you start
The workflow has three separate parts: recordings and visuals you are allowed to broadcast, a source that plays those files in sequence, and an encoder or relay that sends the resulting stream to YouTube. NGINX’s built-in HTTP HLS module is not the same as the separate nginx-rtmp-module project, and it does not by itself turn a playlist into a YouTube live broadcast.
- Cleared media: Confirm that you have permission for the actual sound recordings, performances or arrangements, and visuals, for live streaming in your intended territories. A devotional subject, a traditional melody, or a file found online does not establish those rights.
- A playlist source: Prepare the recordings and visuals in the order you want them played. Your playback and encoding path must produce a live stream for the relay; the RTMP module alone should not be assumed to play files as a playlist.
- A continuously available host: You can use an existing Linux machine, local always-on hardware, or a hosted Linux VPS. Whichever you choose must support the module and TLS publishing path you select, and must remain reachable for the broadcast.
- A YouTube live broadcast: Enable or schedule the intended broadcast in YouTube Studio, then retrieve its current ingestion URL and stream key from its live control settings. For an API-managed setup, use the ingestion information returned by YouTube’s LiveStreams API.
- A tested RTMPS-capable publishing path: Verify the exact TLS/RTMPS publishing support and configuration syntax for your specific nginx-rtmp-module build before relying on it.
Set up the playlist and confirm your rights
Check each part of the program
Clear the recording, the performance or arrangement, and any artwork, photographs, or video shown alongside the music. Permission to use one version of a song does not automatically cover another recording or its accompanying visuals. Keep written permission and check that it covers the intended territories and a live broadcast.
If you plan to leave the live replay available, confirm that your permission also covers the archived stream. YouTube says archived live streams may receive Content ID claims after the broadcast ends.

Arrange the playback source
Build and review the playlist before going live. Confirm that the files play in the intended order, that the audio and visuals are appropriate for the whole broadcast, and that the source can keep producing media when one file ends and the next begins. NGINX is the relay stage; choose a playback and encoding method that actually supplies it with the live media feed.
Create the YouTube broadcast and retrieve its ingest details
- In YouTube Studio, enable or schedule the live broadcast you intend to use. The exact controls can vary with the account and Studio interface, so use the current live control settings rather than relying on an old tutorial’s endpoint.
- Copy the current RTMPS ingestion URL and stream key shown for that broadcast. YouTube’s LiveStreams API can also expose primary and backup ingestion addresses for API-managed workflows.
- Keep the key private. Treat it like a password: do not put it in a public configuration, screenshot, log, or shared repository. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live controls before continuing.
- Record the endpoint details securely. The URL, application path, key, and hostname must correspond to the current YouTube broadcast. Do not reuse values copied from an old guide without checking them against Studio.
Verify that your NGINX path can publish over RTMPS
Google for Developers describes RTMPS as regular RTMP video tunneled through SSL/TLS. For YouTube RTMPS ingest, the connection must use a valid RTMPS URL and endpoint, connect on port 443, and send SNI for the server hostname. The API’s primary and backup ingestion addresses are also useful when designing a recovery path.

The nginx-rtmp-module is a separate NGINX-based media streaming project. The available project information establishes what it is, but does not establish that every build supports RTMPS publishing or confirm a particular TLS directive or configuration syntax. Check the documentation and capabilities for the exact build you plan to install. Do not paste an unverified configuration into production or silently change the endpoint to plain RTMP if TLS publishing is unavailable. Instead, use a compatible encoder or relay path that can publish securely to YouTube.
Similarly, NGINX’s built-in ngx_http_hls_module serves HTTP Live Streaming from MP4 or MOV media files, with H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio. It is distinct from nginx-rtmp-module and should not be mistaken for an RTMP/RTMPS push implementation. YouTube’s HLS ingest is a different protocol with its own playlist and segment requirements; those requirements are not interchangeable with RTMPS settings.

Start privately, then monitor the broadcast
- Start the media source and compatible publisher using the RTMPS endpoint, key, port, and hostname verified for your chosen build. Keep the broadcast private or in an appropriate test mode while checking the connection.
- Inspect YouTube Studio’s stream health and any configuration feedback returned by Studio or the API. Resolve ingest or configuration warnings before opening the broadcast to viewers.
- Check the playlist through a file transition. Confirm that playback advances as intended and that the outgoing stream remains present during the transition.
- For a long broadcast, monitor the whole chain: playlist progression, the playback and encoder processes, the NGINX host, network availability, YouTube ingest health, and copyright or other platform notices.
- Plan recovery. Decide who can access the host and YouTube controls, how you will identify a stopped process or dropped ingest, and how you will restart the source and publisher. Do not assume that a relay or YouTube will recover every failure without intervention.
Why a licensed devotional stream can still be interrupted
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the live stream with a placeholder image and warn the creator to stop using the content; if it continues, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a live stream.
A license alone may not prevent a Content ID interruption. YouTube advises creators who have licensed third-party content to ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist. Without that allowlisting, a stream may still be interrupted, including where a creator’s rights apply only in specified territories. Check notices in Studio and contact the rights holder if a licensed track is flagged; do not assume that the devotional or traditional nature of the music makes it exempt.

Choose where the relay runs
- Existing Linux machine: This can avoid buying another computer if it already meets the software and TLS requirements. It still depends on that machine, its network connection, and your ability to monitor and recover it.
- Local always-on hardware: A mini PC or other spare machine gives you direct access to the system, but you remain responsible for continuous power, network availability, and monitoring.
- Hosted Linux VPS: A VPS avoids maintaining a local server and may be convenient for remote access. Check that its environment allows the required module and secure outbound publishing, and account for ongoing hosting and outbound-transfer costs. No particular provider or price is established here.
Compare these options by continuous availability, outbound bandwidth or transfer charges, module and TLS compatibility, monitoring and recovery access, and the data-center or audience geography that suits your channel. None of the options guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast.
