You can relay an authorized Spanish internet-radio feed to YouTube from Linux by combining its audio with a visual, encoding both in OBS or FFmpeg, and sending the output to the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. First confirm the station and rights holders permit retransmission to YouTube in the territories where you plan to stream: being able to listen online does not grant rebroadcast rights.

Before you stream: get the feed and permission

Ask the station for its authorized stream URL, any credentials, and details about the feed format. Confirm in writing that you may retransmit that feed on YouTube in your intended territories. This may require clearance for the broadcast, recording, publishing, and music rights involved; check with the station and relevant rights holders rather than assuming the station’s listening link covers them.

YouTube’s Live Stream Terms and Conditions require the provider to have the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder; if it remains unresolved, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed third-party content may be interrupted unless the content owner allowlists your channel. Arrange permissions and any required allowlisting before scheduling a broadcast.

Choose a Linux workflow

Option Best suited to What to check
OBS A graphical desktop workflow with scenes and visible source controls. Your installed OBS build must support the station feed and selected YouTube output settings. Add both audio and video sources.
FFmpeg Command-line operation, scripting, or a headless Linux host. The feed’s format, redirects, TLS, authentication, and available FFmpeg demuxers and encoders. Test the exact URL and build before relying on it.
Liquidsoap Radio-oriented scheduling or audio processing. Verify a configuration for your exact source and output against current Liquidsoap documentation; a universal recipe is not established here.

Radio feeds can differ in codec, container, playlist indirection, redirects, TLS, or authentication, and Linux package builds do not all include the same encoders. Treat any command or configuration found elsewhere as a starting point, not a guaranteed fit. Test the actual feed and installed software before going live.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Set up YouTube Live Control Room

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live, then create or select the live stream you intend to use. Interface labels can change, so follow the current controls in Live Control Room.
  2. Copy the displayed server URL and stream key into OBS or your FFmpeg output configuration. Prefer the RTMPS server URL when your encoder supports it. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL, which encrypts the connection; see Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
  3. Keep the stream key private, as you would a password. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. Reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
  4. Start the encoder and wait for YouTube to receive the signal. Check its preview and stream-health indications before starting the live event, according to the event’s settings.

Configure OBS with the station feed and a visual

  1. Create a scene in OBS and add the authorized radio feed as an audio source. Use the source type and connection details that match the station’s feed; if the stream requires authentication, use the station-provided credentials.
  2. Add an image or other video source to the same scene. Use only a visual asset you are entitled to display. A still image still needs to be sent as video alongside the audio.
  3. In OBS’s streaming settings, select the YouTube service or configure the server manually using the current server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Select RTMPS if supported by your OBS version.
  4. Set the video encoder to H.264 where available and use constant bitrate (CBR). Set the keyframe interval to two seconds; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds.
  5. Use AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo, set the sample rate to 44.1 kHz; YouTube recommends 128 kbps for stereo audio.
  6. Start streaming and confirm in Live Control Room that both the visual and audio arrive. Check audio levels for silence or clipping and monitor stream health before making the event public.

These are YouTube’s general RTMP/RTMPS recommendations, not a guarantee that every Linux distribution or OBS build exposes each encoder or setting. Test with representative audio and video, and confirm your available upload capacity can sustain the configured stream.

Use FFmpeg from the command line

FFmpeg can combine an audio input with a still image or looped video, encode the result, and send it to YouTube. The exact command depends on the station’s feed and your FFmpeg build; there is no universally valid station URL or command. In particular, a playlist URL may need to resolve to an actual media feed, and the source may require credentials or handle redirects and TLS differently.

  1. Check that FFmpeg is installed and that its build includes the required input support and video/audio encoders. Identify the stream URL and authentication method with the station.
  2. Prepare a permitted image or video file and confirm its dimensions and playback. Ensure the output includes a video stream even if the image does not change.
  3. Build an FFmpeg command for your specific input, outputting H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio with CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, 44.1 kHz stereo audio, and the current YouTube ingest URL and stream key. Use a stereo audio bitrate of 128 kbps as YouTube’s recommendation, and do not exceed a four-second keyframe interval.
  4. Test the command privately or with an unlisted event first. Check that the feed opens, the image appears, audio is audible without clipping, and Live Control Room reports a healthy incoming stream.
  5. Once verified, run the command for the intended event and monitor both the source feed and YouTube stream health. Plan how you will restart or recover the process if the host, network, or station feed disconnects.

Because the station is not specified, a copy-and-paste command would risk using the wrong input flags, credentials, or feed URL. Test with the actual feed rather than assuming a generic example will work.

Test, monitor, and end the broadcast

  • Before going public: verify that YouTube receives audio and video, the correct visual is displayed, and the audio is neither silent nor clipping.
  • During the stream: watch YouTube’s stream-health status and check that the station feed continues to play. A successful initial connection does not prove that a long broadcast will remain connected.
  • When stopping: stop the OBS stream or end the FFmpeg process, then end the live event in Live Control Room if it remains active. Confirm that the event has ended.
  • For continuous broadcasts: arrange monitoring and a recovery plan for failures in the feed, internet connection, Linux host, or encoder. A sample setup alone does not ensure 24/7 operation.

Common problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to check
FFmpeg or OBS cannot open the radio URL The URL may be a playlist or redirect, need authentication, use unsupported transport details, or require an input format unavailable in the installed build. Ask the station for the direct authorized feed and access requirements. Test the URL and confirm your software build supports its format.
YouTube receives video but no sound The radio feed may not be connected as an audio source, may have stopped, or may be mapped incorrectly. Check the source connection and audio meters in OBS, or the FFmpeg input and output mapping. Verify audible output in Live Control Room.
Audio is too quiet, distorted, or clipping Source levels or encoder audio configuration may be unsuitable. Check the source and encoder levels, listen to a representative test, and ensure stereo is set to 44.1 kHz. YouTube recommends 128 kbps for stereo.
YouTube does not show the still image The scene or FFmpeg output may not include a video source or video stream. Confirm the image is active in the OBS scene or included in the FFmpeg output, and check YouTube’s preview.
Stream health is poor or the stream disconnects Upload capacity, the host connection, encoder load, or station feed continuity may be inadequate. Test available upload capacity, monitor stream health, and check whether the feed or host disconnected. Use a recovery plan appropriate to your setup.
Stream is replaced or interrupted after starting YouTube may have detected third-party content or rights may not cover the use. Stop and resolve the rights issue with the station and rights holders. Confirm permissions and any required channel allowlisting; do not try to evade a match.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep an uploaded recording or playlist live on YouTube without leaving a Linux computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live radio feed or camera, so it is not a substitute for relaying a station’s live internet audio.
