For a finished church-service recording, choose a YouTube Premiere if you want a scheduled viewing with live chat and a watch page created in advance. Choose an encoder-based live stream if you specifically need a live event broadcast from your Windows PC. For the encoder route, schedule the stream in YouTube Studio, connect compatible encoder software with the event’s stream URL and key, and rehearse the complete playback and audio path before the service.
Choose a Premiere or an encoder-based live stream
| Option | What viewers experience | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Premiere | A scheduled viewing of an uploaded video. YouTube creates a public watch page ahead of time; viewers can set reminders, comment, and chat. They can rewind during playback but cannot skip ahead of the point reached in the event. Afterward, the video remains a regular upload and chat replay is available. | The recording is finished and the priority is watching together at a set time with chat. |
| Encoder-based live stream | A live event page receives a feed from encoder software connected to YouTube. | The church needs a live-stream event workflow and will send the recorded service as the encoder’s program output. |
YouTube’s standard documented workflows apply to an India-based church; the official guidance cited here does not describe a separate India-only procedure. Geography alone does not establish a channel’s eligibility, internet performance, or rights clearances. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance ties access to channel verification and restrictions.
Check the channel and prepare the recording
- Verify the YouTube channel and confirm it has no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube lists both as eligibility conditions for live streaming.
- Decide which event format you need before sharing a link: a Premiere watch page for a scheduled upload, or a scheduled encoder stream in Live Control Room.
- Check the recording’s picture and sound from beginning to end. Confirm that the intended service is the file being played and that speech, music, and any recorded announcements are audible.
- Review rights for hymns, background music, guest video, and other third-party material. A church service being recorded or licensed does not by itself guarantee that a YouTube stream will remain uninterrupted.
You do not need to buy a camera, microphone, or capture card simply to send an existing video file. Those may be useful for adding live production inputs, but they are not prerequisites for this prerecorded workflow.
Option 1: Schedule the recording as a YouTube Premiere
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and upload the finished service video using the channel’s normal upload workflow.
- In the upload’s visibility or scheduling choices, select the Premiere option and set the planned start time. Review the current Studio screen before publishing because labels and layout can change.
- Publish or schedule the Premiere, then share its watch-page link with the congregation. Viewers can open the page in advance and set a reminder.
- Join the watch page around the start time to participate in chat. The uploaded video plays as the scheduled event; after it ends, it remains on the channel as a regular video.
Use this route when there is no need to send a PC-generated live encoder feed to YouTube. The official Premiere guide describes the shared viewing and chat experience.

Option 2: Send the recording through encoder software
This route creates a scheduled live-stream event and sends its incoming feed from encoder software on the Windows PC. YouTube documents the event and encoder connection, but the cited official instructions do not verify a particular OBS recipe for routing a video file continuously as the program output. Use software you can operate reliably, consult its current help, and rehearse the exact playback setup rather than assuming a particular menu or media-source configuration.
- Schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream. Check the title, visibility, scheduled time, and event page before sharing the link.
- Get the connection details. Open the stream’s settings in Live Control Room and copy its stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s YouTube connection fields. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your event. Do not publish it or share it casually.
- Set up the prerecorded playback. Configure the encoder and the chosen playback method so the full video and its audio reach the encoder as the program feed. Test the entire recording, not only a short opening segment, and confirm that playback will not pause, show a desktop notification, or switch to unrelated material during the service.
- Rehearse before event day. YouTube recommends testing the workflow, especially for people new to streaming. Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event and check the Live Control Room preview before starting the broadcast.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Confirm the preview shows the correct service and that its sound is present, then start the stream as appropriate for the scheduled event. Monitor picture and audio throughout; a successful connection indicator alone does not confirm that the right content is playing.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers creating and connecting an encoder stream, while live stream settings covers scheduling and the stream URL and key. If using OBS, consult the OBS Help Portal; it recommends the Auto-Configuration Wizard for basic settings. The supplied official guidance does not establish exact OBS settings for playing a recorded service, so validate the chosen setup in rehearsal.

Protect the service from copyright interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects material that may belong to someone else, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn the creator, interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. Music and hymns, recorded background tracks, and video clips deserve particular attention.
Even when the church has a license, YouTube says a rights owner may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist for the live use to avoid interruption. Archived live streams can also receive Content ID claims. Check the rights and any allowlisting requirements with the relevant rights owner before the service, and do not treat a successful rehearsal as proof that all content is cleared. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Troubleshoot before viewers arrive
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream | The channel is not verified or has a live-stream restriction within the preceding 90 days. | Check channel verification and restriction status in YouTube Studio; resolve eligibility issues before planning an encoder event. |
| The event is scheduled, but the preview is blank or shows the wrong content | The encoder is not sending the intended program feed, or the playback source is not running. | Confirm the correct scheduled event and its stream URL/key are in use; start the intended playback and inspect the Live Control Room preview before going live. |
| The picture appears, but viewers cannot hear the service | The playback audio is not reaching the encoder’s program output, or the wrong audio source is selected. | Test speech and music through the complete playback-to-encoder path and listen to the Live Control Room preview before the event. |
| YouTube warns, replaces, or interrupts the stream | Automated copyright scanning may have detected third-party material. | Review the flagged content and rights status. If the use is licensed, ask the rights owner whether the channel must be Content ID allowlisted; do not assume a license alone prevents an interruption. |
| The stream starts late or the wrong page was shared | Encoder setup, event selection, or link checking was left until the scheduled start. | Configure ahead of time, begin encoder checks at least 15 minutes before the event, verify the event preview, and confirm the shared watch-page URL with a second person. |
