This sends the video through a live broadcast; it does not upload it as a regular YouTube video or create a scheduled Premiere.
What you need before you start
- PRISM Live Studio Desktop on Windows or Mac and a local video file you can select as a source. PRISM’s getting-started guide lists Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and Apple Silicon macOS Monterey 12.3 or higher; check the current system requirements because they can change.
- A YouTube channel linked to PRISM and access to its livestream controls. YouTube eligibility and live-stream rules can vary; check YouTube Help and Live Control Room for the current requirements that apply to your channel.
- Permission to broadcast the video and any audio it contains. PRISM’s official FAQ confirms that media files such as videos, images, and audio clips can be used in a livestream, but that does not grant rights to someone else’s material.
The steps below are for PRISM Desktop on Windows and Mac. PRISM’s guide mentions the Studio Mode playback behavior in v4; labels or behavior may differ in later versions.
How to stream a local video file with PRISM Desktop

Link YouTube and set the live details
In PRISM, add your YouTube channel from the channel list. Open Live Information and set the title, category, visibility, and other available stream details. PRISM says these details can be changed before going live or during a stream. For the channel-linking and live setup flow, see Getting Started with PRISM Desktop.

Choose or create a scene
Select the scene you want to use. Scenes and sources make up the broadcast screen: a scene is the layout, and sources are the items shown or heard in it. Use the Sources add control to add the video to that scene.

Add the video as a Media Source
Choose Media Source, then select the local media file. PRISM’s Using Media Source guide documents this workflow for Windows and Mac. Preview the scene to confirm the file appears as intended.

Fix playback if Studio Mode does not start the file
In Studio Mode, the left-hand EDIT screen is a work area; viewers see the right-hand LIVE screen. Changes in EDIT do not reach the audience until applied. PRISM documents that media sources may not play automatically after they are added in Studio Mode. Use either remedy:

- Before confirming the source, uncheck Restart playback when source becomes active, then click OK.
- Alternatively, leave that option enabled and click Apply in Studio Mode after adding the source.
These are alternative fixes for the documented playback issue, not different streaming methods. See PRISM’s Media Source guide for the source behavior.

Check the picture and audio before broadcasting
Preview the program and verify that the video is visible and the intended audio sources are active at suitable levels. If you use Studio Mode, apply the scene so the LIVE side shows the program you mean to broadcast. PRISM provides a YouTube Rehearsal button in the YouTube Live Info window; use it to check broadcast settings before the public stream where appropriate. Rehearsal is YouTube-only, is disabled during multistreaming, and does not produce a replay. Details are in PRISM’s YouTube Rehearsal guide.

Go live, then finish the broadcast
Turn on the intended channel and select Go Live. PRISM describes a confirmation/edit step followed by a second Go Live action to begin the broadcast. When you are done, select Finish.
Playing one video versus a playlist
The desktop instructions above cover adding a selected local file as a Media Source. PRISM separately documents a Media Playlist feature for Android and iOS; its mobile instructions are not evidence that the same playlist workflow is available in the desktop app. See Using Media Playlist for the mobile feature.

If you need several videos in sequence on desktop, do not assume the mobile playlist steps apply. The desktop source guide supports selecting a media file, but does not establish a desktop playlist feature.

- The video source is present but not playing in Studio Mode: use one of PRISM’s documented remedies—uncheck Restart playback when source becomes active before confirming, or click Apply in Studio Mode after adding it.
- The edit looks right but viewers do not see it: confirm that the scene change has been applied from EDIT to LIVE in Studio Mode.
- The stream settings need a final check: use YouTube Rehearsal from the YouTube Live Info window if available. It is not available during multistreaming and does not create a replay.
- You cannot find a desktop playlist option: PRISM’s documented Media Playlist guide is for Android and iOS. Use the desktop Media Source workflow for the documented local-file method.
- You are unsure whether your channel or content can be livestreamed: check current YouTube Help and Live Control Room requirements. The PRISM documentation does not establish current YouTube eligibility, copyright, or prerecorded-content policy rules for every channel or video.
