To keep a recorded Easter service playing on YouTube, send the video to YouTube Live through an encoder or a cloud streaming service. Enable live streaming on the church’s channel in advance, configure the stream URL and key, preview the feed, and monitor it while it runs. For a broadcast longer than 12 hours, keep a separate local recording: YouTube says streams over that length may not be archived. Confirm music and other content rights before going live.
Choose how to keep the recording on air
A prerecorded service can be sent to YouTube Live using encoder software, dedicated encoder hardware, or a cloud service that plays uploaded videos. The right choice depends on who will operate the stream, how long it must run, and whether someone can respond to interruptions.
- Software or hardware encoder: You control the playback and stream settings. A computer or encoder and a reliable internet connection must remain available. YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders; it recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production events. [YouTube encoder setup]
- Cloud playback: Upload the recording, add the YouTube stream key, and have the service send it to YouTube. This avoids leaving a church computer running, but check that the service supports looping and recovery behavior suitable for your broadcast.
StreamNeo is the cloud option to consider first: it runs an always-on YouTube stream from the cloud, supports uploaded video up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free. It streams to YouTube only.
Prepare the church’s YouTube channel
- Sign in to the church’s YouTube channel and verify it if it has not already been verified.
- Enable live streaming before the service date. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, and the channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Do not wait until Easter morning to check access. [Enable live streaming]
- Confirm that the account used to configure the broadcast has access to the channel’s YouTube Studio and Live Control Room.
Send the prerecorded service to YouTube Live with an encoder
- Prepare the final recording and test playback from beginning to end. Make sure the intended audio and video are present and that the file is available on the device that will run the encoder.
- Open YouTube Studio, go to Create > Go live, then use the Live Control Room to create or select the stream. Exact labels can vary as YouTube updates its interface.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the Live Control Room into the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to the channel. [YouTube encoder setup]
- Set the encoder to play the recording. For a continuous broadcast, configure looping if the encoder supports it; confirm how it behaves at the end of the file and after a connection interruption.
- Start sending the encoder feed, then inspect the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and synchronization before making the stream public or starting the scheduled broadcast.
- Once live, open the watch page from another device and check that viewers can access it. Monitor picture and audio throughout the broadcast rather than assuming a successful start means it will remain healthy.
YouTube’s encoder guidance covers the stream URL and key workflow. Its help pages also recommend preparing ahead, checking the preview, testing access on the channel and watch pages, and monitoring stream quality. [Encoder setup] [Live-stream tips]

Check upload capacity and keep a local archive
YouTube recommends upload capacity equal to the total stream bitrate plus 20% headroom. For example, if the encoder’s total outgoing bitrate is 6 Mbps, the connection should have at least 7.2 Mbps of reliable upload capacity available for the stream. This is a planning margin, not a guarantee against outages. [YouTube live-stream tips]
Plan a separate local recording if the stream must be preserved. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends a local archive backup. Check that local recording is enabled and that the output file is growing while the broadcast runs. [YouTube live archive guidance]

Confirm rights before broadcasting in India
The church needs the necessary rights for the recorded service and its contents, including music, performances, and third-party material. YouTube’s live-stream terms say the provider represents that it has the rights needed for worldwide use of the live content, including music licensing rights. [YouTube livestream terms]
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID; contact relevant rights holders about allowlisting where appropriate. The available YouTube guidance does not establish India-specific music licensing, broadcast, or religious-service requirements, nor does it determine the rights status of a particular church’s recording. Confirm requirements and permissions for the church’s location and content with the relevant rights holders or qualified local advisers before broadcasting.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable | The channel has not completed verification or live-stream activation, activation is still pending, or the channel has a live-streaming restriction. | Check channel verification and live access in YouTube Studio. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation; confirm the channel has not had a restriction in the preceding 90 days. [YouTube live-stream enablement] |
| No signal or no preview | The encoder may have the wrong stream URL or key, may not be sending, or may be pointed at the wrong stream. | Compare the encoder destination with the current stream details in Live Control Room, then restart the encoder feed and wait for preview. Keep the key private. [YouTube encoder setup] |
| Video stalls or quality drops | Available upload bandwidth may be below the outgoing bitrate, or the connection may fluctuate. | Check the encoder’s total bitrate and available upload capacity; YouTube recommends 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Reduce the outgoing bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it. [YouTube live-stream tips] |
| Music or video is interrupted despite the stream working technically | YouTube may have detected third-party material, or a rights holder may have imposed a Content ID restriction. | Review the content permissions and YouTube’s live copyright notices. Contact the rights holder about channel allowlisting when applicable; technical changes alone do not resolve a rights claim. [YouTube copyright guidance] |
| There is no YouTube replay after a very long broadcast | The stream exceeded 12 hours, a duration for which YouTube says archiving may not occur. | Use the separately configured local recording and verify during the broadcast that its file is being written. [YouTube archive guidance] |
| The stream stops when nobody is at the controls | The chosen setup may not restart playback or reconnect automatically after a failure. | Before relying on unattended playback, test looping and recovery with the selected encoder or service, and arrange monitoring appropriate to the event. YouTube’s general encoder support is not a guarantee that a specific setup will recover automatically. |
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload the recorded service, add the church’s YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home or at the church. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. A cloud service does not remove the need to confirm content rights or check the broadcast.
