For a local setup, keep the computer, encoder, and internet connection running and monitored. For a cloud setup that does not depend on a computer at the church, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos to YouTube. Before either approach, confirm your channel is eligible to livestream and that you have rights to every part of the recording, especially worship music.
Choose how the church will keep the stream running
The right setup depends on whether the church needs hands-on control of the broadcast or wants prerecorded content to continue without a local computer staying on. YouTube supports software encoders on computers and standalone hardware encoders; its encoder guidance also lists Gyre as a cloud option for continuous prerecorded YouTube broadcasts. The options below describe operating models, not tested reliability or cost comparisons.
| Option | Useful when | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo cloud service | The church wants uploaded videos looped to YouTube without keeping a computer at the church online. | One slot runs one always-on YouTube stream. Check storage needs and the service’s terms for your content and workflow. |
| Local software encoder | The church needs control over scenes, sermon playlists, graphics, or live handoffs. | The computer, network connection, encoder, and playback need to stay powered and monitored. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | The church prefers a dedicated encoding device. | YouTube confirms this encoder category, but model specifications and costs are not established here. |
| Other cloud service | The church wants continuous playback without operating its own computer. | YouTube lists Gyre as an example. Independently verify current pricing, storage, controls, outage support, rights handling, and terms. |
For churches that want to run the broadcast themselves, the OBS workflow below covers looping a single sermon or playlist. StreamNeo is the cloud option to try first: it keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud, accepts uploads at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Check YouTube eligibility before you prepare the broadcast
The channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Enabling livestreaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the planned service time. Review YouTube’s current eligibility steps at YouTube Help: Enable live streaming.

Prepare a sermon video or playlist in OBS
Loop one sermon file
- Open OBS Studio and add a Media Source to the scene you intend to stream.
- Select the sermon video file and enable Loop in the source settings. OBS describes this setting as controlling whether the file plays again when playback completes. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Play the source in OBS and check that both the picture and the audio are correct before connecting to YouTube.
Loop a sequence of sermons
- Add a VLC Video source in OBS and build the playlist from the sermon files you want to show.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback returns to the beginning after the final item.
- Preview the whole sequence far enough to catch missing files, unexpected gaps, incorrect order, or audio problems.
Use media you have checked and are authorized to broadcast. If the service includes a live handoff, graphics, or other scenes, test those transitions in the actual OBS scene collection before the broadcast begins.
Create the YouTube Live stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule an encoder stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers software and hardware encoders.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the corresponding connection settings in OBS.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or send it to people who do not need access. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Start the encoder and wait for the incoming video preview in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Check the preview, stream title and visibility, picture, and audio. When ready, start the live broadcast in Live Control Room.
YouTube’s encoder documentation explains its available setup controls. Use the current values and prompts shown in your YouTube Studio and encoder rather than copying settings from an unrelated channel or an older guide; the material available here does not establish a single bitrate, resolution, or keyframe value suitable for every church connection and source file.

Test, monitor, and preserve a separate replay
- Run a test before the scheduled broadcast. Check the watch page on desktop and mobile, and confirm the sound is understandable at normal listening levels.
- Assign someone to monitor the broadcast and respond if playback stops, the encoder disconnects, or the internet connection fails.
- If using a local encoder, keep the computer powered and connected. If recording locally, check that the archive file is being written and continues to grow.
- Keep the sermon master files separately and upload individual messages as regular videos if viewers need reliable access to each sermon later.
A continuous livestream is not a dependable substitute for a replay archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If replay matters, plan for a local recording or separate sermon uploads rather than relying on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast. See YouTube Help: Archive live streams and its live streaming tips.
Clear music and other rights before broadcasting
The church is responsible for having the necessary rights to use livestream content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights, and for following applicable laws and rules. A sermon recording may include worship music, a performance, images, or embedded video that has separate rights from the sermon itself. Confirm permission for each component before it is included in the stream. YouTube states this responsibility in its Livestream terms and conditions.

YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. It may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the broadcast, or apply copyright strikes. If the church has a licence for third-party material, the rights owner may still need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist; a licence alone may not prevent an interruption. Review YouTube’s guidance on live streams and copyright and contact the rights owner about allowlisting where applicable.
