Run FFmpeg on your VPS with one input for the video playlist and another for the audio playlist, map their video and audio streams into a single output, then send that output to YouTube over RTMPS. Before leaving it unattended, check that your files work together, decide how their different playlist lengths should repeat, and test transitions and recovery.
How the setup works
The video and audio remain separate FFmpeg inputs, but YouTube receives one outgoing stream containing both. For compatible media, FFmpeg’s concat demuxer can assemble each playlist without re-encoding. If the files need conversion or their formats differ, normalize them or use a filter-based workflow instead.
The example below loops the video playlist and audio playlist independently. That means each repeats when it reaches the end of its own total duration; it does not keep individual video and audio items paired. If particular songs must accompany particular scenes, prepare a paired schedule instead of relying on independent loops.
Prepare and inspect your files
Inventory the media
On the VPS, organize the files and record their order. Check each file’s video and audio codecs, dimensions, frame rate, sample rate, and duration. FFmpeg can inspect a file with ffprobe, for example:

ffprobe -v error -show_streams -show_format "video-01.mp4"Repeat the inspection for the audio files. Do not assume files are compatible just because they have familiar extensions: the appropriate no-transcode workflow depends on the actual streams and whether FFmpeg can concatenate them cleanly.
Create concat-demuxer manifests
Make one text manifest for the video sequence and another for the audio sequence. Each entry is a path to a file, in playback order. For example, video-list.txt could contain:

file 'track-03.m4a'Use paths that the FFmpeg process can read. If filenames contain quotes or other characters that complicate the manifest syntax, rename the files or carefully escape the paths according to FFmpeg’s concat-demuxer rules.
Choose a playback schedule deliberately
Independent looping is suitable when the two sequences can repeat on their own timelines. If the video playlist totals 80 minutes and the audio playlist totals 65 minutes, their cycle boundaries will not coincide; after each loop, their relative pairing changes. For a synchronized program, design both playlists to the intended schedule, or create paired segments and a workflow that preserves those pairings.
Send both inputs to YouTube over RTMPS
Get the current ingest details
In YouTube Live Control Room, create or open the intended live stream and retrieve its current ingestion URL and stream key. YouTube also exposes RTMPS ingestion-address fields through its LiveStreams API. Use the account’s active details rather than copying a static endpoint from an example. RTMPS carries RTMP over TLS/SSL, and YouTube documents its RTMPS connection on port 443.

Treat the stream key like a password. Do not put it in a public script repository, screenshot, shared command history, or exposed log. Limit access to the VPS account and any file or service configuration that holds it; regenerate the key in YouTube if it is disclosed.
Start with a copy-based command
If the chosen streams are compatible with the output container and with YouTube’s ingest requirements, this schematic command loops each concat input, maps video from the first input and audio from the second, and sends the combined output using FFmpeg’s FLV muxer:

-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_HOST/YOUR_APPLICATION/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"Replace the URL with the RTMPS ingestion address supplied for your stream, including the required application path and key in the format YouTube gives you. Keep the key out of any version-controlled file. This command is a starting pattern, not a promise that every media combination or FFmpeg build will accept it unchanged. Confirm the installed build’s RTMPS support and test with the real files.

The -map options explicitly select the first video stream from the video input and the first audio stream from the audio input. The copy settings avoid re-encoding; if the sources cannot be copied into a valid, stable output, remove that assumption and use an encoding/filter workflow appropriate to the media.
Normalize when copying is unsuitable
When source files differ in ways that prevent a clean concat or output, convert them to a consistent format before relying on unattended playback, or use FFmpeg’s concat filter and encode the result. The right video and audio settings depend on the source files, desired output, FFmpeg build, and YouTube’s current requirements. Inspect the files first; do not choose a VPS size or encoding workload without accounting for whether the process is copying or transcoding.

For YouTube stream settings such as resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframes, check the current recommendations in Live Control Room or YouTube’s current streaming guidance for the output you intend to send. The correct values depend on that output; a single bitrate or keyframe setting cannot be inferred from these playlist inputs alone.
Test before leaving it unattended
- Run a short test. Start the process while you can observe it, and check FFmpeg’s output for input errors, mapping problems, or connection failures.
- Check YouTube’s stream preview. Confirm that both picture and sound arrive, and verify that the selected video and audio are the ones you intended.
- Watch playlist boundaries. Let the test cross at least one transition in each playlist. Check for unexpected gaps, abrupt changes, playback termination, or audio/video pairing that does not match your plan.
- Test the planned restart path. Verify that the process can be restarted with access to the manifests, media, and current stream credentials, and that it resumes the intended schedule.
- Check account and content readiness. Confirm the stream is available to go live in the account’s current Live Control Room and that you have the rights needed for every video and audio item.
There is no universal VPS size established for this workflow. Resource needs depend on the media, output resolution and bitrate, whether FFmpeg transcodes, storage and network demands, and the VPS provider’s limits.

Keep the process recoverable
A 24/7 stream needs more than a command that works once: plan for process exits, temporary network failures, VPS restarts, and YouTube-side interruptions. Use a process supervisor and monitoring suitable for your VPS so you can detect a stopped process and decide how it should restart. Make sure the restart path can access the media and credentials without exposing the stream key.
FFmpeg documents an RTMP FIFO muxer configuration that attempts recovery after temporary failures. It is an option to evaluate for the deployment, not a guarantee of uninterrupted delivery or YouTube availability. Test how the chosen arrangement behaves when the connection drops and when FFmpeg restarts; decide how to avoid an unintended schedule reset.
RTMPS or HLS?

Copyright and channel considerations
Only include material you have the right to stream, including music and any embedded audio. A playlist that runs technically does not establish that its contents are cleared for a live broadcast. Check YouTube’s current policies and the status of the channel and stream in Live Control Room before scheduling a long-running broadcast.

Separately, technical uptime does not determine whether a channel’s programming meets YouTube’s monetization rules. Repeated or reused material can raise issues distinct from copyright permission, so review the current YouTube Partner Program and reused-content guidance if monetization is part of the plan.
Troubleshooting common problems
FFmpeg cannot open a manifest or media file
Check the working directory and file permissions, then confirm every manifest path resolves from the FFmpeg process’s environment. A process launched by a supervisor may start in a different directory than an interactive shell.
The output has video but no sound, or sound but no video
Check that the correct files are in each manifest and that each input contains the stream you expect. Confirm the mapping is -map 0:v:0 for video and -map 1:a:0 for audio, and inspect the actual streams with ffprobe.
FFmpeg rejects the output or reports incompatible streams
The source streams may not be suitable for copy-based output or may not concatenate cleanly. Inspect codecs and stream properties, test the files individually, then normalize them or use a filter-and-encode workflow rather than assuming -c copy will work.
The picture and sound drift or change pairing after a loop
Independent playlists repeat on their own total durations. If the sequences have different lengths, their relative alignment changes at cycle boundaries. Build a paired schedule or make the sequences fit the intended cycle instead of expecting independent loops to stay synchronized.

YouTube does not receive the stream
Verify that the RTMPS URL and stream key are current and copied in the format YouTube supplied. Check that the installed FFmpeg build supports RTMPS, that the VPS can connect to the endpoint on the documented port, and that the stream is configured and available in Live Control Room.
The stream stops after a temporary failure
Inspect FFmpeg and supervisor logs to identify whether the process exited or the connection failed. Test the restart and recovery configuration, including whether it reconnects with valid credentials and returns to the intended playlist position. A recovery attempt is not a guarantee against every outage.
