To run waterfall footage and its natural sound as a continuous YouTube Live broadcast, send rights-cleared video and audio from an encoder to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. You can run the encoder on a computer you keep powered and connected, or use a cloud service such as StreamNeo to play uploaded video without leaving a computer on at home. Plan for monitoring and a local backup: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive, so a single 24-hour broadcast does not guarantee a complete replay.
Before you start: clear the footage and sound
Use waterfall video and audio you created yourself, or media for which you have permission covering the uses you intend, including livestreaming and any replay or archive use. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to represent that they have the necessary rights for live content used on Google services. A copyright match against third-party material can interrupt or terminate a live stream. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and check the rights for both the picture and the sound; permission for one does not automatically cover the other.
Do not assume that audio is free to reuse because it sounds like ordinary nature ambience or appears in another video. If you did not record it, get permission from the rights holder or use audio licensed for your intended livestream use.
Check channel eligibility and enable live streaming
Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before your planned start. See YouTube’s livestreaming setup requirements.

Set up a YouTube Live broadcast
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. In Live Control Room, use the Stream tab to create or schedule the broadcast. Scheduling creates a watch page that you can share in advance. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the workflow.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder’s server and key fields. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private; reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Choose a latency setting suited to ambience. A waterfall stream usually has no real-time conversation, so ultra-low latency is rarely essential. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering, while higher latency is less of a concern when there is no audience interaction. Choose a stable setting and test it before the broadcast. YouTube’s latency guidance.
- Send the prepared video and audio. Configure your encoder to play the rights-cleared waterfall recording and transmit it to YouTube using the stream URL and key. Preview the incoming feed in Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast.
- Go live and monitor. Check the stream health indicator, picture, and sound. Confirm that any local recording is being written and growing as expected.
Keep a DIY stream running reliably
A local encoder gives you control, but the computer, encoder, power, and internet connection must keep working. Estimate the encoder’s outbound bitrate and make sure the available upload capacity has headroom above it; a connection running at its limit can become unstable. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring, and warns that connectivity interruptions can break a stream. Review YouTube’s stream connectivity guidance.
- Run a test stream before the scheduled start and inspect both audio and video at the watch page.
- Keep the computer awake, the encoder running, and the router connected. Watch for dropped frames, encoder errors, audio clipping, or a silent track.
- Record a separate local copy where practical, and check that the recording file continues to grow. This gives you a backup if the live stream or its archive is incomplete.
- A UPS for the computer and router can help through a brief power interruption, but it cannot protect against a wider internet outage.
Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?
Do not count on a complete YouTube replay from one continuous 24-hour session. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. The archive is not guaranteed for a stream that exceeds that threshold. If an accessible replay matters, use shorter broadcasts and confirm each archive appears after its stream ends; keep a local recording as a separate backup. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Can a looping waterfall stream earn money?
A continuous loop does not guarantee monetization or eligibility. YouTube’s monetization policy says repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Whether a particular channel and program qualifies depends on YouTube’s review and the content; do not treat a simple loop as guaranteed earnings. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
