To run a thunderstorm-and-rain video as a YouTube livestream, use a verified channel with live access, send a rights-cleared video and audio loop through an encoder, and keep the encoder, power, and internet connection running. YouTube’s recommended H.264 settings provide a starting point, but a single stream lasting more than 12 hours may not be archived. A continuous broadcast is not the same as a guaranteed uninterrupted archive or guaranteed monetization.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube lists an encoder as one way to go live; see its live-streaming overview.
- A video and audio track you own or are authorized to broadcast. Permission to use material does not necessarily make it eligible for monetization.
- An encoder such as OBS, a computer able to run it, and a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your chosen settings.
- A plan to monitor the stream and recover if the encoder, computer, power, connection, or YouTube ingest stops working. A local setup depends on those components remaining available.
YouTube’s help pages reviewed for this guide are in English. The steps below keep interface names in English rather than guessing at Hindi menu translations.
Prepare the rain and thunderstorm loop safely
Use cleared picture and sound
Build an encoder scene from your own storm footage or material you have permission to broadcast, and use audio you are authorized to transmit. Do not assume that a clip is safe because it is easy to download or already appears on YouTube. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or end it. Even licensed material may require the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption; see YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Make the loop work as a broadcast
In OBS or another encoder, create a scene that plays the storm video and its audio, then configure the encoder to send that scene to YouTube. Check that the source repeats as intended, audio is audible and not clipping, and there are no gaps or abrupt changes you do not want viewers to hear. These are practical setup checks, not a guarantee of uninterrupted playback: reliability depends on your actual source file, encoder, computer, power, and network.

Set up YouTube Live and connect your encoder
- Confirm that channel verification is complete and that no live restriction applies from the previous 90 days.
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using the encoder option. Labels may vary by language or interface version.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key provided by YouTube into the corresponding server and key fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in a recording, screenshot, or public post. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio before using it again.
- Set the output and audio options in the encoder, then start a private or otherwise appropriate test and inspect YouTube’s stream-health feedback before making the broadcast public.
- When the picture, sound, and connection are stable, start the encoder and verify in the Live Control Room that YouTube is receiving the stream.
Choose resolution, bitrate, and keyframe settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS for ingestion and recommends constant bitrate (CBR), with a 2-second keyframe interval and no interval longer than 4 seconds. The bitrate figures below are YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations, accessed October 3, 2026; they are starting points, not a measurement of your connection or a promise that a particular upload line can sustain them.

- Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS is listed; YouTube recommends RTMPS.
- Bitrate mode: CBR.
- Keyframes: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS.
- Resolution: choose a level your sustained upload can support. Test with both moving video and audio, then watch YouTube’s stream-health messages during the broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
Test your upload speed and leave capacity for normal network variation and other household or office traffic. If the stream-health feedback indicates connection trouble, reduce output quality or bitrate and test again rather than assuming the highest setting will work.

Understand the 24/7 archive limitation
Around-the-clock streaming and dependable automatic archiving are different goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube also says, “We recommend recording a local archive as a backup.” See YouTube’s archive guidance, accessed October 3, 2026.
If preserving a replay matters, use sessions shorter than 12 hours and record locally as a backup. An external drive is optional; YouTube recommends a local recording, not a particular drive type, capacity, or brand. Shorter sessions can help with the archive concern, but do not establish that viewers will see uninterrupted playback between sessions. A single continuous 24/7 session should not be relied on as a guaranteed archive.

Plan for monetization separately from copyright
Copyright clearance and YouTube Partner Program eligibility are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and says repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible. Its reused-content policy looks for significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value; having permission alone does not settle eligibility. A static or minimally changed rain loop may therefore carry monetization risk, but this does not mean every ambient stream is automatically ineligible. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Troubleshoot common failures
- You cannot start a livestream: check that channel verification is complete and there has been no live restriction in the preceding 90 days; review YouTube Studio for any account-specific notice.
- YouTube is not receiving the encoder signal: check that the stream URL and key match the current stream in Live Control Room, and that the encoder is sending to the selected destination. Keep the stream key private.
- Stream health shows connection problems: test sustained upload, reduce bitrate or resolution, and repeat a test with representative audio and video. Check that another device or application is not consuming the available upload capacity.
- The stream is interrupted or replaced: review YouTube’s copyright notifications and the material in the live scene. Remove or replace matched third-party content; if you have a license, ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting.
- The replay is missing: a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Keep sessions under 12 hours when an automatic archive matters and maintain a local recording backup.
- The computer or connection goes offline: a local encoder cannot keep sending while its host, power, or network is unavailable. Restore the failed component, restart the encoder if needed, and confirm signal reception again in Live Control Room.
