You can run a 24/7 YouTube playlist of your original fairy tales from a Mac mini by using OBS Studio as the encoder: enable live streaming on your channel, create a YouTube stream, loop a local video or playlist in OBS, connect the stream key, and test the feed before making it public. A loop makes the video repeat inside OBS; it does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. The Mac, power, network, OBS, and YouTube connection still need monitoring.
What you need before you start
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming access guidance and live-streaming tips.
- A Mac mini that can handle your chosen video resolution, frame rate, and OBS scene. OBS lists Intel or Apple Silicon, an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU, and macOS 11 or later as baseline requirements, but meeting them does not guarantee streaming performance. Check OBS system requirements.
- Your finished fairy tale video files stored locally, or VLC installed if you intend to use OBS’s VLC Video source for a playlist.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the full outgoing stream bitrate, plus headroom. Measure upload speed rather than relying on download speed.
- Rights to use every story, narration, music track, sound effect, and image in the stream. YouTube says your live-stream audio and video must not infringe others’ rights: YouTube live-stream settings.
Set up the Mac mini and OBS
1. Install OBS and create a scene
Download OBS using the official macOS installation guide. Open OBS and create a scene for the stream. Keep the setup simple at first: a single video source and any essential title or branding reduce unnecessary processing compared with a complex scene.
2. Add a single story video or playlist
For one local video, add a Media Source to the scene and select the file. Enable its Loop option so playback restarts when it reaches the end. For multiple story videos, add a VLC Video source and build the playlist there; VLC must be installed on macOS, and Loop Playlist is enabled by default. Check the source behavior in OBS’s Media Sources guide.
Play the scene and verify that the image fits your intended canvas, narration and music are audible, and the transition at the end of the file or playlist behaves as expected. If stories have different audio levels, normalize or adjust them before the long run rather than relying on one OBS volume setting to fix every file.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
1. Create or schedule the stream
Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one, then set the title, description, audience setting, and visibility. Choose private or unlisted for initial testing. YouTube’s encoder workflow is described in its encoder live-streaming guide.
2. Copy the stream key securely
Copy the stream key shown for the event. It tells YouTube where to accept the incoming feed, so treat it like a password: do not include it in a screenshot, public post, or shared OBS profile. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before continuing.
3. Set OBS’s stream destination and encoder
In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key. Review Settings → Output and Settings → Video to select a tested resolution, frame rate, and bitrate suitable for the Mac mini and your upload connection.

YouTube’s general encoder guidance includes H.264 video, CBR (constant bitrate), and a two-second keyframe interval. Its recommendations vary with resolution and frame rate; there is no single bitrate appropriate for every Mac mini or connection. Use the current YouTube encoder settings table to choose a target, then confirm your connection can sustain it. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS workflows and lists codecs including H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 subject to protocol and configuration; RTMPS encrypts the connection.
Test the stream before making it public
- Start streaming from OBS while the YouTube event is private or unlisted.
- Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check the preview, stream health, image framing, and audio—not just the OBS preview.
- Test representative material: include the most demanding motion and the loudest or quietest narration/music in the playlist. YouTube advises testing with similar audio and motion to the planned stream.
- Let the playlist reach its end and verify that it repeats as intended. Confirm that the restart does not introduce silence, a frozen frame, or an unwanted gap.
- Review stream health over a meaningful test period, then make the event public only when the output and metadata are correct.
YouTube’s streaming tips say to ensure the outbound connection can carry the stream bitrate and recommend about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total outgoing bitrate. A wired Ethernet connection is a reasonable choice where available, but it cannot prevent a provider outage, power loss, or platform interruption. See YouTube streaming tips.
Keep the local stream running—and know its limits
OBS looping controls playback of the local file; it does not ensure the Mac stays awake, the internet remains connected, or YouTube accepts the feed continuously. The available documentation does not establish a universal Mac mini sleep-prevention setting or guarantee unattended uptime for a particular model. Avoid assuming that disabling display sleep also prevents system sleep. Check your Mac’s power behavior directly and test the exact machine, scene, resolution, and network configuration before relying on it.

During a real run, periodically check YouTube Live Control Room and the Mac mini. Plan how you will respond to power or internet interruptions, OBS failure, a software update, or a YouTube disconnect. A local loop does not automatically restart a YouTube broadcast after a dropped connection.

YouTube does not offer live streaming
Confirm that the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days, and has completed live-stream activation. First activation may take up to 24 hours; do not leave it until launch day.

The feed buffers or drops
Compare the total OBS output bitrate with measured upload capacity. Reduce the output bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain it, and preserve the recommended 20% headroom. A wired connection may improve consistency, but it is not a continuity guarantee.
The story does not repeat
For a single file, confirm Loop is enabled on the Media Source. For multiple files, verify that you are using VLC Video, VLC is installed, and Loop Playlist remains enabled. Test through the end of the playlist rather than inferring the behavior from a short preview.
The Mac mini stops sending
Check whether the Mac slept, lost power or internet, OBS quit, or the source file became unavailable. The cited OBS and YouTube guidance does not promise recovery from every interruption. Restore the cause, reconnect OBS, and verify the event’s current state in Live Control Room before assuming the broadcast is live again.

Local Mac mini or cloud streaming?
OBS on a Mac mini gives you direct control of the local source and uses hardware you may already own; in exchange, the machine, power, network, and software remain part of the delivery chain. YouTube’s encoder directory also lists Gyre for streaming prerecorded video without a dedicated PC, but that listing alone does not establish its current price, media limits, or fit for a particular workflow. Compare those terms directly before choosing a third-party service.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not leave a Mac mini running, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist streaming to YouTube from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home; each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required.
Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
