You can use OBS to send an ASMR video and audio feed to YouTube continuously, but OBS alone does not guarantee 24/7 uptime. You need an eligible YouTube channel, a stable computer and internet connection, a tested encoder setup, and a plan for outages and recordings. YouTube also warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive, so a continuous broadcast should not be your only copy.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover eligibility and preparation.
- A computer that can encode your chosen video and audio settings for as long as you plan to stream. OBS does not keep the broadcast running if the computer loses power, sleeps, crashes, or closes the application.
- A reliable upload connection with enough capacity for the stream bitrate and additional headroom. A wired Ethernet connection is a reasonable option for a fixed streaming computer, but it does not ensure uptime.
- The ASMR footage and sound you intend to stream, with permission to use all included material. YouTube’s encoder setup does not make copyrighted or reused material safe to broadcast; review the rights and YouTube policies relevant to your content before going live.
YouTube’s official encoder instructions describe livestream setup and technical settings, not an ASMR-specific continuous-broadcast recipe or guaranteed recovery method.
Create the stream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. If the channel is not yet eligible to go live, resolve that before configuring OBS.
- In the stream’s encoder settings, find the stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes the key as the credential that identifies where the encoder sends the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or share it with anyone who should not control the stream.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the key using the available connection option. Use the stream URL and key shown in Live Control Room if OBS asks for them separately.
- Keep the Live Control Room page available. Before the broadcast, confirm the event is accessible from your channel and watch pages, and check the encoder preview there.

Choose OBS settings your connection can sustain
YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS for the listed encoder workflow, constant bitrate encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Its guidance is a target, not a promise that your computer or internet connection can sustain it. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the current platform guidance.

To choose a sustainable target, run an upload speed test and leave 20% upload bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. YouTube notes that a shared network can limit the bandwidth available to your stream. If the connection cannot support the target reliably, lower the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate rather than treating the recommended bitrate as mandatory. Its guidance also says YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers.
For ASMR, test the microphone or recorded audio you will actually use and listen for noise, clipping, and unwanted gaps. YouTube’s cited encoder settings specify audio encoding values, not a microphone model or ASMR recording technique.

Test the full broadcast before relying on it
- Configure the OBS scene and sources for the actual ASMR stream, then start a private or otherwise appropriate test event if available to you.
- Test with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast. A still image with no audio does not reveal problems that appear in the real program.
- Check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm picture, sound, and synchronization, then watch the stream-health status and messages during the test.
- Leave the setup running long enough to check that the computer stays awake, OBS remains stable, and the connection does not fluctuate under normal household or office use.
- Test the recovery process you intend to use. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing backup-encoder failover; the appropriate level of redundancy depends on how much interruption your channel can tolerate.
Plan for outages and continuous operation
With a local OBS setup, the stream depends on the computer, OBS, power, and internet connection staying available. Arrange a human monitoring plan and decide how someone will respond if OBS stops, the computer restarts, or YouTube reports a stream problem. A test can reveal issues, but it does not establish guaranteed uptime or automatic recovery.
- Prevent avoidable interruptions by ensuring the computer will not sleep or restart unexpectedly during the stream.
- Monitor the YouTube stream-health status and messages, as well as the actual audio and video.
- Decide in advance who can restart the encoder and access the stream key securely if a restart is needed.
- If continuity matters, evaluate and test a backup encoder or another recovery arrangement. Do not assume a particular OBS watchdog or automatic failover behavior without verifying it in your own setup.
Protect your archive
A 24-hour broadcast is far beyond YouTube’s stated 12-hour archive threshold. YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived,” and warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. That means a continuous stream should not be treated as a dependable YouTube replay. Read YouTube’s archive guidance before choosing your recording plan.

- If you need a local archive, make a separate recording and check that its file is growing and that the finished file is intact. YouTube’s live-stream tips recommend verifying local archive files.
- If separate YouTube replays matter more than an uninterrupted session, shorter scheduled broadcasts are an operational alternative. Choose session lengths around your content and the monitoring you can provide; shorter sessions are not a guarantee of indefinite archive availability.
- Do not assume a long stream will produce a complete replay simply because it appears live successfully.
