Rahman recordings, get permission for the recordings and compositions that covers continuous YouTube live use in your intended territories—and confirm whether the rights owner must add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. If you have that clearance, you can use OBS to loop one authorized file or a playlist. Without it, do not use this workflow to rebroadcast commercial songs.
First, clear the music rights
YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place the responsibility on the person providing the live content to hold the necessary rights worldwide, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Owning a CD, paying for a music subscription, crediting the artists, or finding a track online does not by itself establish permission for a 24/7 livestream. YouTube’s guidance on finding safe music points to music in the public domain or music used with the copyright owner’s permission.
Ask for permission that matches the actual use
For each recording you plan to play, confirm that you have permission for the recording and the underlying composition, for continuous live streaming on YouTube in the territories you intend to reach. If you want to keep a replay, check that the permission also covers archived playback. Do not assume that permission for a recording, a music video, or an ordinary upload also covers an always-on live broadcast.
Check Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can lead to a warning or placeholder and, if the material remains, interruption or termination. YouTube advises creators who have licensed third-party content to ask the rights owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not prevent a live interruption. Archived streams may also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Do not treat Creator Music as live-stream clearance
YouTube’s Creator Music FAQ says Creator Music does not support licensing for live content. Its terms differ by track, and the FAQ describes access rolling out to U.S. YouTube Partner Program creators. A video license or revenue-share option there is not permission for this OBS livestream.
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. Check eligibility before building the setup; see YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guide. YouTube also recommends setting up in advance, checking the preview, testing, and monitoring quality during the stream in its live-streaming tips.

Set up OBS to loop authorized music
This workflow is for files or playlists you have permission to stream. OBS’s controls can change; its Quick Start Guide is dated August 25, 2021, and its Media Sources guide is dated January 11, 2022. If a control differs in your installed version, use the current OBS interface and documentation.
- Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard. In OBS, use the wizard to configure the application for your computer and intended use. Then create a scene for the stream and check OBS’s output settings. YouTube’s current encoder guidance is the reference for settings; there is no universal bitrate or resolution preset established here for every computer, connection, and source file.
- Add the authorized media. In the scene’s Sources, add a Media Source for a single file and enable its Loop option. For multiple authorized files, add a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. These are OBS’s documented looping approaches.
- Check the audio meter. Start or preview the source and confirm its audio meter responds. Listen to the output and inspect the scene before going live; a meter that does not move is a reason to stop and correct the source or audio setup rather than start a silent broadcast.
- Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. In the Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s stream settings. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide and live stream settings guide for the current controls.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes the stream key as acting like a password and address for the stream. Do not share it publicly. If it is exposed, use YouTube’s stream controls to manage the key.
- Start OBS and check YouTube’s preview. Wait for the stream to appear in the Live Control Room and verify the picture and sound before you start or schedule the broadcast. Make a short test first, as OBS’s quick-start guidance recommends.
- Monitor the broadcast. Keep an eye on the audio, video, connection and Live Control Room notices. If YouTube flags third-party content, do not treat restarting OBS as a rights fix: stop or change the content until the rights issue is resolved.
Choose a loop and archive plan
One file or a playlist
Use a looping Media Source when a single authorized file should repeat. Use a looping VLC playlist when you have several cleared files and want them to play in sequence. In either case, test the transition and audio before the public stream; the loop setting controls playback, not music rights.

One continuous session or shorter sessions
Do not rely on YouTube to save a complete replay of one uninterrupted 24-hour session. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. If replays matter, schedule shorter sessions and keep a local recording where appropriate. See YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance.
Common problems and what to do
- YouTube warns about a copyright match or interrupts the stream: the matched content may not be cleared for this use, or the channel may not be allowlisted. Stop or replace the content, resolve permission with the relevant rights owner, and ask about Content ID allowlisting before trying again. A technical restart does not remove a rights restriction.
- The OBS audio meter does not respond: the media source may not be playing or its audio may not be reaching the scene. Check that the source is active, inspect the audio setup, and test again before going live.
- The YouTube preview does not show the intended stream: check that OBS is sending to the stream URL and key for the correct Live Control Room event, then wait for and inspect the preview before starting the broadcast.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind may be limited beyond that point. Use shorter sessions if the YouTube archive is important, and consider a local recording.
