How to Stop IRL Pro From Restarting a YouTube Live Stream After Upload Changes

There is no verified IRL Pro switch that prevents a YouTube live event restarting after upload changes. Learn how to distinguish a reconnect from an event restart and what to check before broadcasting.

There is no documented IRL Pro setting that guarantees a YouTube live stream will stay uninterrupted when you change upload settings mid-broadcast. The cause is not confirmed: an IRL Pro reconnect, a temporary YouTube ingest interruption, and a restarted YouTube live event are different possibilities. Before an important broadcast, set and test the stream URL, protocol, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate in advance; if the stream drops, diagnose what IRL Pro and YouTube actually show before changing settings again.

First determine what “restarting” means

Do not assume that a brief interruption means YouTube created a new live event. Check the symptoms on both ends:

  • Note whether IRL Pro’s broadcast indicator drops or shows a reconnect.
  • Check YouTube Live Control Room to see whether the event remains active with an ingest interruption or whether a new event appears.
  • Record what viewers saw, including the length of any interruption.
  • Note the IRL Pro app version, YouTube event, and the setting changed immediately before the issue.

The available IRL Pro and YouTube documentation does not establish that changing bitrate, resolution, or another upload setting necessarily restarts a YouTube event, or that a reconnect and event restart are the same occurrence. Treat the cause as unconfirmed unless your own observations identify it.

Before going live: check the destination and output settings

Confirm the current stream URL and key

Use the complete, current publish URL and the correct stream key for the YouTube event. Enhanced IRL’s IRL Pro guide says an old URL can become invalid if a key’s region or protocol changes, or if the key is rotated; in that service’s workflow, replace the old URL with the current one. Enhanced IRL’s connection guide is specific to its stream-key service, so do not treat its details as a guarantee about every direct IRL Pro-to-YouTube setup.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Make the protocol match the destination

Check that the protocol selected in IRL Pro matches the receiving dashboard. Enhanced IRL documents RTMP and SRT for its own service. Its guide says an SRT URL carries the key in the streamid, while an RTMP URL already ends in the key. These URL formats are service-specific; use the exact URL issued for the destination you are sending to rather than modifying it by analogy.

Choose quality the connection can sustain

Set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate within both the receiving service’s limits and the upload capacity available along the stream route. A nominal plan cap is not proof that a mobile connection can sustain that bitrate. Enhanced IRL recommends starting at half of its applicable cap on mobile, testing the usual route, and increasing only while the bitrate stays stable. That is guidance for its service, not a YouTube limit.

YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends H.264 bitrates of 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps, 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations, not caps for Enhanced IRL plans or a promise that a particular mobile route can sustain the output.

Output setting YouTube H.264 recommended bitrate
240p–720p at 30 fps 4 Mbps
720p at 60 fps 6 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 12 Mbps

YouTube also recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds; its encoder guidance lists constant bitrate (CBR) and frame rates up to 60 fps. Check the current settings offered by your encoder and YouTube guidance for the codec in use. Do not combine YouTube’s H.264 recommendations with the separate AV1/H.265 minimum and maximum ranges.

Test the complete setup before an important broadcast

  1. Set the intended destination URL, key, protocol, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, codec, and keyframe interval before starting.
  2. Run a speed test on the connection you plan to use. For a mobile broadcast, test on the route and under movement conditions similar to the event.
  3. Start a low-risk test stream with representative audio and movement. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned live stream.
  4. Watch YouTube stream health during the test and check IRL Pro’s broadcast indicator for drops or reconnects.
  5. If the test is unstable, lower the output bitrate or resolution and test again instead of assuming that a plan cap is sustainable on the route.

YouTube’s guidance is to test before going live and monitor stream health during the event. The precise effect of changing upload settings midstream is not documented, so verify your own app version and workflow in a low-risk test rather than relying on an assumed “keep live” switch.

If the stream drops or keeps reconnecting

  1. Check the URL and key first. Confirm that the full current destination URL and key are still valid. If a key was rotated or its associated region or protocol changed, update the URL as required by the destination service.
  2. Check protocol alignment. Verify that IRL Pro and the receiving dashboard are set to the same protocol. Do not switch to SRT or RTMP based on generic advice without confirming that the destination supports the chosen protocol.
  3. Reduce load if the connection is unstable. Lower bitrate, resolution, or frame rate to a level the route can sustain, then test. On mobile, prioritize stable bitrate over the service’s maximum allowance.
  4. Separate a reconnect from a new event. Check YouTube Live Control Room and IRL Pro’s indicator before concluding that YouTube restarted the event. Keep a record of the event state and viewer-visible interruption.
  5. Plan a safe change window. If a midstream setting change is necessary, assume continuity is unverified. Tell viewers there may be an interruption or make the change during a low-risk test rather than promising the live event will remain uninterrupted.

Enhanced IRL’s documentation notes that an old URL can cause a reconnect loop in its service and that RTMP may struggle with packet loss during movement; it suggests SRT for that service, or reducing bitrate if already using SRT. Those are service-specific notes, not an official diagnosis or universal fix for direct IRL Pro-to-YouTube streaming.

What YouTube’s saved settings do—and do not explain

YouTube’s live-stream management documentation says that reusing settings also copies auto-start and auto-stop choices. That can matter when creating a later stream, but it does not explain what IRL Pro does when upload settings are changed during a live broadcast. A third-party 2024 IRL Pro setup article shows resolution being set before broadcast starts; it does not establish midstream behavior.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep uploaded video playing on YouTube continuously, rather than stream a live camera or mobile IRL feed, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home. It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
