In OBS, enable Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source for a playlist, or Loop on a Media Source when repeating one file. Then test the actual transition: OBS documents restarting playback after the source runs out of media, but does not promise a gapless handoff between files. If silence remains, trace the audio from the files through OBS to YouTube stream health.
Choose the right OBS loop setting
For a playlist of files: VLC Video
- Install VLC. OBS’s documentation says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, add or select a VLC Video source and open its properties.
- Add the files in the intended order. Keep Shuffle off if you need a fixed sequence.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS describes this setting as specifying whether the source should restart when it has run out of media files. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.
- Check that the source is not paused, stopped, or hidden in a way that prevents playback, then test the end of the last file and the start of the first.
For one repeating file: Media Source
- Select the file’s Media Source in OBS and open its properties.
- Enable Loop, then test the file’s end-to-start boundary in the program output.
These controls keep playback repeating; they do not establish that different files will transition with zero silence. Listen to the actual output before relying on it for an always-on stream.
Find where the silence enters the audio chain
Check the transition in order, rather than assuming YouTube caused the gap:
- Inspect the media boundary. Play the ending and starting files consecutively. Confirm that both contain the intended audio, that neither has unintended leading or trailing silence, and that the next playlist item starts.
- Watch OBS audio meters. Observe them as one file ends and the next begins. If they stop moving, investigate playback, the source state, or audio routing in OBS.
- Listen to OBS program output. If the meters move but the program output is silent, check which audio source is routed to the output and whether the source is muted.
- Make a private or unlisted test stream. Listen to the delivered stream as well as the local output. If OBS output has sound but the stream does not, check encoding and YouTube delivery.
- Check YouTube stream health. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health. Its encoder guidance is for testing and delivery, not for configuring an OBS playlist. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance.
Don’t confuse a playlist gap with a crashed encoder
A restart policy can help recover from an encoder process that exits or hangs; it does not make a playlist transition gapless or correct a loop setting. A third-party radio-stream setup guide describes local OBS and FFmpeg approaches, while one operator’s FFmpeg notes describe systemd restart behavior, a frame-progress watchdog, and scheduled restarts as parts of a particular deployment. Those are implementation examples, not universal guarantees. See RadioTech Studio’s 24/7 radio-stream guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not switch ingestion protocols as the first response to silence at a file boundary. If you use HLS, YouTube has separate segment and rolling-playlist requirements, and HLS has higher latency; those settings do not replace checking local playback. See YouTube’s HLS setup guidance.
Common symptoms and fixes
| What you observe | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The next file never starts | Playlist setup or source state | Confirm the file is in the VLC Video playlist, the source is not paused or stopped, and Loop Playlist is enabled. |
| The next file starts, but there is a short gap | Media boundary | Listen to the file endings and beginnings for encoded silence; compare the local transition with the OBS program output. |
| OBS meters stop at the boundary | Source playback or audio routing | Check whether the next item starts and whether the relevant source is routed and unmuted. |
| OBS meters move and local output sounds right, but the stream is silent | Encoding or platform delivery | Run a representative test and inspect YouTube stream health and encoder configuration. |
| The stream stops entirely after running for a while | Encoder process or connection resilience | Investigate process exits, hangs, and connection failures separately from playlist looping; a restart mechanism cannot repair a bad file boundary. |
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the content without requiring a computer at home to stay on. It does not stream from a camera or to other platforms.
