To show a changing song title on a 24/7 YouTube radio stream, put the track information into the video that YouTube receives. You need both a source for the current track’s title and artist—such as player metadata or a maintained playlist—and an overlay that displays it. YouTube’s live-event title is broadcast metadata; it does not automatically become a changing on-screen label.
Choose an overlay that matches your playback source
The reliable choice depends on where the music is actually playing. A fixed playlist can use a maintained track list, chapters, or description data; dynamically selected playback needs an integration that reads the player’s current state. If the source does not expose accurate track information, an overlay cannot infer it.
YouTube Music desktop with YTMDesktop2
YTMDesktop2 documents a local API and OBS browser-source workflow. Enable its local API, copy the overlay URL from the overlay settings, then add that URL in OBS as a Browser Source. Its documented layouts include full card, compact, text, badge, fullscreen, stack, and ticker. Choose one that leaves the documentary or radio visuals legible and test it with your stream scene. YouTube Music desktop with a local file bridge
A community project documents a different approach: a Python bridge receives track metadata, writes title and artist to a text file, and supplies cover art through an image file for OBS sources. It requires the YouTube Music desktop app and Python. This is community code, not a tested or guaranteed integration; check its current setup instructions and compatibility before depending on it for unattended playback. Community bridge project

YouTube or YouTube Music in a browser
The OBS forum resource “Music on stream” reports support for YouTube and YouTube Music, using YouTube chapters or a video description playlist as possible title sources. Confirm that the resource still works with your browser and extensions, and that its title source corresponds to the way your channel plays content. A chapter-based label is only as accurate as the chapter data. OBS forum resource: Music on stream
Hosted continuous playout
Some hosted playout systems document a built-in Now Playing element that updates as named content rotates. This can reduce local integration work, but verify how the service gets its metadata, what happens when metadata is missing, and its terms, reliability, and pricing before choosing it. One provider’s documentation describes this type of element; it does not establish an independent cost or reliability comparison with local methods. Airtime Pro help center

Set up and verify the display
- Identify the player. Confirm whether music plays through YouTube Music desktop, a browser, a fixed sequence, or hosted playout. Determine whether that source supplies live title and artist metadata or whether you must maintain labels yourself.
- Add the matching overlay to the outgoing scene. In OBS, add the YTMDesktop2 overlay URL as a Browser Source, or configure the bridge’s text and image sources to read its local files. For a fixed sequence, prepare and verify the track list, chapters, or description data used by the overlay.
- Preview track changes and interruptions. Check that the displayed label follows the audio. Test pause, stop, player restart, missing metadata, and track changes before leaving the stream unattended. These checks matter because documented options can pause or retain stale information when a player stops or closes.
- Check the layout with real titles. Make sure text remains readable against the picture, does not cover important imagery, and can handle long titles. Hosted-overlay documentation warns that long titles can break layouts; use an overflow treatment or shorter display format if needed.
- Define a stale-data fallback. Decide whether to hide the label or show a clear message such as “Now playing unavailable” when current metadata cannot be confirmed. The community bridge documentation says it clears text when playback stops but can retain the last track if YouTube Music fully closes, so test what viewers will see after a player failure.
Keep the song label separate from YouTube’s live-event details
The changing title and artist must be rendered into the composed video by an overlay or supplied by the playout system. YouTube’s Live Streaming API describes broadcast-level details such as actual and scheduled start and end times and viewer count; those fields are not documented as an automatic per-track graphic. Changing the live-event title is therefore not a substitute for a Now Playing overlay. YouTube LiveBroadcasts API documentation
Do not assume Spotify API access permits a radio overlay
Spotify’s current-track endpoint can expose the user’s playing item, but Spotify’s documentation says its content must not be synchronized with visual media and may not be used for non-interactive broadcasting. Do not treat API access as permission to pair Spotify recordings with a continuous YouTube radio stream. Spotify current track endpoint

Troubleshoot common Now Playing problems
- The overlay is blank: Check that the playback app is open, the local API or bridge is running, and the overlay URL or file paths are correct. For a fixed list, verify the title data exists for the current item.
- The previous song remains on screen: The metadata source may have stopped updating or retained its last value. Restart the integration, confirm the player is still reporting a current item, and make the stale-data fallback visible rather than presenting an old title as current.
- The title does not match the audio: Check whether the overlay follows the actual playback source or a separate chapter, playlist, or description list. Correct the maintained data or use a source that reads the player’s current state.
- The label is cut off or hard to read: Try a compact or text layout, shorten the displayed fields, or adjust the overlay’s size and placement. Preview unusually long titles before leaving the stream running.
- The overlay works locally but not in the live picture: Confirm it is present in the OBS scene that is actually live and visible in the program output, not only in a preview or another scene.
